Heads up about program changes

Also one for pondering.

Before January 2014.

Fly SYD-BNE-SYD. Earn 2,000 points in discount Y, and an upgrade one way was 8,000 points to J.
Then it became 10,000 points to upgrade.
Now it 10,000 points PLUS my earn will only be 1,600 points.

Therefore, 4 return flights to get an upgrade became 5 return flights, became just over 6 return flights.

Fairer, simpler.. Just keep on flying all those planes around with empty premium cabins. That'll solve all your problems. Here's an idea. Don't charge $1,200 one way SYD-PER for A330's that are awful with a "work desk" in the middle because some idiot thought that they could squeeze an extra 6 people into a plush economy cabin.

Thinking about it I reckon there will be more people in the lounges. I don't think I will worry about Status in future and book JASA's I will just try and book Classic J fares and not worry about getting the SC's etc. The reality is my points will go further and I will get more trips, pity really that it has happened now as I have almost 2 million QFF points racked up I was going to use next year to keep my Status going but c'est la vie.

I have always travelled Qantas even when I pay in full, even when it costs me more but I reckon they have done me a back-handed favour and I will now travel on price first provided it is a reputable airline and worry about Frequent Flyer program second.

It was good while it lasted but nothing stays the same for ever and I guess we just need to get over it.

It's blatantly obvious that QF want to continue to drive down their customer numbers and revenue to reach their end plan sooner than later. Now that the Government has told QF to "go away" they have no choice but to bleed and burn customers as fast as possible.

But yes do continue to make assumptions about people on here paying for J/F :)

I have millions of FF points in various programs, but never let that get in the way that I spend $50k+ pa on QF which they are at risk of losing to other carriers..

But yes do tell me more, again, about how Amex hates me as a customer pushing $1mil plus through various Amex cards, yes, yes I am sure they don't want me and all the disgusting merchant fees that I generate for them.

There is no place in this thread for commercial realities ;)

The one thing you can say about these changes is that they are not simpler.Whoever came up with that suggestion should be one of the 5000.
So the ay I read it as someone who flys mainly internationally is that we will have Flounge access until the end of 2015.The reduction in partner airline SCs means that it will be harder for mrsdrron to continue to qualify WP.Unfortunately at the end of 2015 she will still be about 3000 SCs short of LTG.

The one question I want answered is what point and SC earning will be for any xASA booked from tomorrow until July 1?

Wow 208 users currently online! Have to admit the last time I saw those numbers, was when the ATA "enhancement" was announced. . . . . ;)

Now I'm really brickin it with 300k QF points in the bank.
Maybe I should give them all away as I can't get annual leave until next February.
Or who wants to trade me 1 SQ for 1.25 QF?

And fair play to RedRoo - at least s/he was honest and mentioned revenue TWICE in the post, unlike the e-mail

If you're offering... I'll take them off your hands gladly :)

Assuming 60-70 flights/year and that is a loss of ~12,000-14,000 QFF points. ...
Sure, a mere drop in the ocean for someone who declares they have over a million points (and counting) which they probably will find hard to use.

Most people are not that upset about the loss of MASA's, it was another way to burn points and create loyalty. Yeah someone makes Platinum throrugh a few MASA's my bet is they fly alot more as a result and if they don't they don't cost anything. MASA's are not that different to Double Status Credits.
How about Double SCs offer and Any seat award earning 1,600 SCs in 2 days?

Ludicrous!

Perhaps Qantas should have reviewed Double SCs offers and ceased these immediately.

just doing some back of the envelope numbers for upcoming travel I was going to book - assuming I can read the table correctly (and ignoring status) - had planned to build in stopovers to maximise SC's.

splitting SYD-LHR into two flights is no longer a worthwhile strategy (except in Flex PE) where you garner an extra 15 SC's but same points - PE, BUS & Flex BUS all earn the same points and SC's whether done as 1 or 2 segments.

Splitting SYD-JFK on the other hand would end up costing you points and SC's in certain fare categories 10 less SC's in PREM ECON, 5 more SC's in FLEX PREM ECON, and 20 less SC's in either BUS or FLEX BUS - which I think is a bummer because the SYD-JFK is a great trip to break up for a day anyway.

*These numbers could be totally wrong - all taken from the first table on the link from Red Roo's OP.

The changes do add simplicity, just not to QFF. Now we just credit to AA and no need to think to hard about whether to MASA/ASA/Classic/SCs etc.

.....

The one question I want answered is what point and SC earning will be for any xASA booked from tomorrow until July 1?
[-]The T&C's along with its airline earning table was updated today.

It still refers to Z/X/P/U class fares booked as ASA's being class as PE, Discount Economy, First and Business class respectively.

http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/terms#jump25

So I would expect that any booked as ASA's after tomorrow and while they can be booked would earn as per the new table*, even though they are not mentioned: http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/fairer-flying#changes-to-earn

(*Which for longhaul is not much different from yesterday).[/-]

You can book them up until July 1, But if flight is after July 1, you don't get SCs or points. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Not sure what Red Roo meant with this

Sorry, trying to post Red Roo's reply to Benjy, P. 21 I think
"Yes. You can book until 30June for travel up to our system range"

Getting rid of double SCs would have achieved the same end and not pi$$ed as many of us off.

So @Red Roo, you're punishing people who stay loyal to the alliance on routes you don't fly by reducing our status credit earn. I can understand on routes where you are a direct competitor. But you don't fly to Orlando, for example, or Philadelphia, or Miami, or San Juan, or any of the other places I'm going on my next trip to the USA next month (luckily before these changes kick in). So why punish me for staying loyal to oneworld and choosing to fly AA? I always fly Qantas as far as you'll take me - or at least I did - and then choose oneworld or partner airlines. I'm now reconsidering. I still have gold status with Virgin - not to late to switch.

Are the new domestic bands (short, medium, long) vaguely aligned to the older mileage boundaries (600, 1200, everything else)? If so, the tables look more complex, but to the average punter, they no longer need to use a calculator to find out which band the flight fell into.

Only ones that spring to mind are the following routes which drop a band:
  • Was band 2, now band 1:
    • ADL/CBR (604 mi)
    • ADL/SYD (725 mi)
    • BNE/TSV (690 mi)
    • BNE/LRE (616 mi)
  • Was band 3, now band 2:
    • CNS/SYD (1222 mi)
    • CNS/MEL (1432 mi)
    • ASP/SYD (1256 mi)

If anyone from VA loyalty is hanging around this thread and laughing,
i for one will gladly jump ship for a status match now.

Yes that is bordering on abuse, but it was within the confines of the program. I took advantage of a double SC offer and 1 x JASA about 2 years back and that cemeted my move to QF.

QF, if they cared, could have easily excluded MASA fares from earning double SC's but they never did.

Now they are removing MASAs which for me, was a nice way to burn points, earn some points and earn some extra SC's to ensure I stay Platinum or exceed Platinum and work my way to LTG or another loyalty bonus.

As I said, for me the loss of MASA's is not that big of a deal, it's the tens of thousands of FF points that I will lose that is a slap in the face!

serfty, many many thanks. I had only seen the old table that excluded the mASA booking classes.
I THINK the update explains things

Thanks again
