Heads up about program changes

Hi Friends,
Would somebody please explain to this "dummy" what MASA,s are? Have been too ashamed to ask since joining a couple of years ago, but with so much comment about them I have finally admitted how dumb I am!

@Redroo.. DO you really feed back anything to the stakeholders?

As someone that has earned much status and points on QF over the years, and that has poured $100K into your FF program I feel physically ill. And to spin this "simpler" program. What could be more simple than you fly x miles you earn x miles. Not, if you fly from A to B you'll get this in A, this in B this in C if you are patting your head and rubbing your tummy.

I seriously feel violated. I hope you appreciate that. VIOLATED.

I've been following QF for a long time, somehow their negative changes correlate to their detrimental financial results. Loyalty is hard earnt but easily broken.

Couldn't they at least have the lower rate on partners if QF does serve a route and a normal rate on oneworld routes that QF doesn't serve.

I was actually going to say similar, but couldn't think how to word it correctly (so that it made sense - been a looooong day) - you hit it on the head!!

I have to say if you can drive a car, that table shouldn't be much harder to take in. You don't even need a uni degree to read it.

Then again, I've also read the table from Air New Zealand Airpoints... even after they deconstructed Economy into 5 different classes.

I can vouch that the method is not simpler than before (now you have to remember a whole bunch of magic numbers rather than just calculating the mileage), but to all those claiming "my head is cracking from trying to read the table" or "I'm going to top myself before I finish reading this", get a grip, seriously.

For those who thought ASAs were here forever, get real. [post=788339]This post[/post] doesn't denote anything meaning they would be around forever, and construing it as such was ill-guided and deluded, and frankly those of you calling out "lies, lies, damned lies" on this should have a look in the mirror if you want to see a straw man. And before you think me stupid - I was at that lunch, so I know what was communicated.

As for everyone going - see you later. Don't let the door hit you in the backside as you leave.

No, I don't work for Qantas, I don't have Qantas shares, and I don't even have any noted status with Qantas. So I'm just rolling with the punches and seeing what this means overall. If that changes how I fly, so be it.

I guess this should mean less "cheap" Platinums in the F Lounge. Due to Qantas points being harder to get and no status earn now, I wish this also meant Classic award prices dropping a bit.

It appears that the FF program will result in less points and Sc for most.

Lesley Grant said in her "reaching out" email to FFleys on 27Feb "qantas is changing but what will never change is our commitment to rewarding you for your loyalty...".

So Qantas has redefined loyalty to mean we get less SC and points.

Thanks QF... Now a lot of high tier Fflyers will move down a tier or two. Therefore the demand for reward redemptions at lower tiers will be greater resulting in the devaluation of points.

Qantas - you are already more expensive than your competition, you are now changing the goalposts and redefining loyalty. Tonight you have tried to spin a media release as "simpler and fairer to smart and sophisticated frequent flyers. Your frequent flyers are well educated, well travelled with deep life experiences and they can smell a rat. You may be the only airline in the world that has never lost a hull in the jet age. However your social capital is being expended in the same way as you are burning through your cash reserves.

Are you for all Australians or only just the very rich and corporate accounts?

So now I will reflect on why do I fly Qantas. i thought i was loyal to Qantas but they dont think so. Changing my travelling habits is only a different website and a different phone number... Changing my support of Qantas in my social circles only requires silence.

Qantas - it is easier for me to exit than it is for you to prevent me exiting.

Get in line....

Let's see. You were purchasing ~$400 Expedia Brazil specials that included 1 night accommodation and you earned ~15,000 QFF points. Qantas were paying you to fly to SIN?

Now the Expedia Brazil specials are locked down and you will earn a few less points. If you still need to go to SIN you will go. If you were going just to earn SCs and QFF points then you will need to think about it a little harder now.

It's a shame QF couldn't make a $ from these fares.......I wonder why ;)

I finally did it!

If your commuting BNE - SYD, getting 800 rather than 1000 points is a 20% drop, if its discount economy travel your looking at 20-25% minimum points haul decline, thats hardly bugger all. And thats a base point decline, so it scales.

Assuming 60-70 flights/year and that is a loss of ~12,000-14,000 QFF points.

The points earn is a significant dilution but at least the SCs earn is not affected. Virgin will figure in the calculation of some.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!

Mind you, don't DARE have the temerity to ask the good Ms. Grant an actual question....

Maybe we should start a Twitter campaign, I'll go first

"First born child can be redeemed for SYD-MEL fare #QFFenhancements"

@superockin: 1000 Status Points for every correct estimation of new Status Point earn rates #QFFenhancements @QantasAirways #qantasfail

In the T+C's of the email that went out this evening they failed to list Qatar... Another proof-reading error?

I've tweeted. It would be awesome if we could get it to trend.

Posted by [/COLOR]ketsuzei] This seems a tad contradictory to me:

Q: When do these changes take effect?
A: The changes are effective for travel on and from 1 July 2014. This means if you book on/before 28 March 2014, for travel on or after 1 July 2014 you will earn Qantas Points and Status credits in line with these new Airline Earning Tables.

Q: What if I've already booked?
A: If you have flights already booked (booked and ticketed on or before Fri 28 Mar 14) for travel on/after 1 July 2014, you will earn the Qantas Points and Status credits that applied at the time you made your booking. The applicable Qantas Points will be credited to your Qantas Frequent Flyer Account approximately four weeks after the dates of the flight(s) taken.

yes, I'm working through this thread trying to get an answer to that. Hopefully I'll find one soon
My FIRST take on it is that, sure, we can book MASAs until July 1, but if travel is after July 1 there will be no SC and points?

I still can't see where this is resolved. Given that the new tables have no SCs for U, X etc fares, then it seems a JASA booked before tomorrow would not attract points if option 1 above applies. But RedRoo has said that option 2 applies. So where are we?

You heard it here first, I'm claiming the term "enhanced simplicity"

I think the thing that gets my goat is the amateurish way in which they roll these things out.
The poor table formats, the myriad of errors, the duplicitous nature of their perceived "benefits" etc.

These actions reek of a desperate business making poor hasty decisions without necessary process, it's fair to say they look like they are in a world of hurt.

On a more positive note, I think it's great that RedRoo has taken the time to tell us early and I am a fan of their presence here and the difficult task of being the "postman of doom".

What I'm personally miffed about is that I and many others here have made large purchasing decisions based on a set of rules that have now changed, not cool Qantas, not cool at all.

I finally did it!
