Qatar N class ticket, booked December 2013 for travel next week. Will it earn points/SC's?

I note under the new system N earns nothing. I can't find any pre change tables on the QF site.

Qatar has only just joined Oneworld, so I'd say the current table represents the situation and it'll earning nil.

Better to credit to your MH account which earns 25% for Qatar N, or AA if you have an AAdvantage account.

QR joined oneworld back in October, well before sequel booked their ticket. Sequel's question about earn prior to QF's July 1 changes holds (though I can't answer it!)

As far as I know, points earnings for partners have not been changed yet. This is expected in the coming months, so what is currently available should be the same as what it was before.

...everything says they are changing the quanta of earning, slowly, not the fares that do and don't earn. My answer also still holds.

"Only just joined" does not equal 8 months ago.

Hi Sequel, what is being said is that you won't earn since your flight is after 1 July. Your earn is based on the table at the time of flight - not booking.

However, your question as to where someone can find the earning table for QR flights taken between Oct and June 30 holds.

BD

Ok, thanks everyone. We have AAdvantage accounts with a half reasonable balance already so will direct the points there - 50% is better than nothing!

Pull ya head in, medhead.

Enjoy those eggs!!

I am saying absolutely nothing about 1 July. I am saying N fares do not earn regardless of the changes at 1 July or not. As I said the changes at 1 July have not changed the fares groupings for partner airlines. 1 July has NOTHING to do with it.

Oh and how old is ONEWORLD BTW? How does that compare to 8 months?

It has nothing to do with 1 July. You might like to have a look here: http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/terms#jump25 Then you will see that there was a new earning table for Qantas and Jetstar from 1 July and the pre-30 June Qantas and Jetstar table is also listed. You will also not there is no such separation for partner earning.

Chill out mate, its just a question...Give the guy some latitude, dude:cool:

Don't see why people take everything so personal...

Based on the airline earning table, QR travel in N class will not earn with QFF:

This has not changed with the "Fairer" thing ... yet.

Over the last few weeks I've told a lot of people I'm changing FF programs because of the QF taxes, general lack of ability to use QFF points how I want and these recent changes. It's amazing to me how many Mr/Ms Occasional Flyers have stared at me in astonishment and then said "I thought you can only earn points in QFF when you fly on QF".

There's opportunities for other airlines to move in here if they are interested, I think. QFF is currently profiting from the ignorance of the average flyers who don't know they have other choices. But Mr/Ms Average Flyer is starting to realise that the flights they previously earned 1,000 points for now earn 800 (for example) and they are beginning to be dissatisfied and to question their FFP choice. Lesley Grant will have retired on a fat bonus by the time it starts and the QFFP will probably have been sold off, but when the word gets around that the QFFP is not the only FFP I think the profitability of the QFFP will start to decline.

Anna

Could Not Agree more with you. Many of my friends and colleagues have changed flying habits now where they previously flew QF Blindly they now go for BFOD. This will bite QF in the back side in my humble opinion.

Flight bookings is one issue for sure. I'm talking about the FFP specifically though. People will get wise eventually to the fact that they can still fly QF but can choose another FFP to credit those flights to, and that other FFPs offer better redemptions.

I rarely come across anyone who flies QFi despite everyone seemingly going OS at least once a year.
20 or so years ago, everyone took off for either LA or London with the 'seasoned traveller' starting their hols in Paris, Frankfurt or San Fran.
QF might be part of OW but does it ever seriously try to work in partnership for connecting flights other than possibly the US?

Fair point too.

So if we credited to AA and flew QF say MEL-SYD how many points would one earn on a Red Deal and how many points would it cost to redeem for a one way MEL-SYD and what would the fines be?

If we look at QF then it would be 800 points and require 8000 points to redeem and around $33.00 in Fines for a flight valued at around $100.00 so 10 flights plus $33.00

Or what if we credited to CX or MH wonder which one would represent the best value to the non frequent frequent flyer :)

I doubt the average person could be bothered to sign up with and accrue miles to another OW airline, ie AA, BA etc... Need to take into account credit card spend, the average person gets hammered by QF and VA credit card offers and probably thinks that's all that exists... I think it's more likely that the average Australian would switch to VA or give up on FF programs and just go BFOD. So QFF changes could impact QF.

Then you have 'normal' Frequent Flyers (ie those not on this board ... :) ) Even most of those couldn't be bothered with overseas OW programs. A few guys at work who fly a bit (QF WP) were asking me about FF programs and how i fly up the front of the plane all the time, when I started to explain simple things they understood but you could tell they just couldn't be bothered. Then there is also the fact they like to use points for upgrades on QF, which of course means you need QF points...

It's funny how the public really only knew about the ramifications of this new QFF system (apart from via the email to the member base) was that the news actually ran a story on it! Rather dubious how such news makes headlines when there are people dying around the world, wars being fought and - perhaps - all the political unrest we are experiencing in Australia...

I wonder if BA might do a double take if it realises how many new applications it is receiving from people living in Austria? ;)

Red-e-deals generally earn poorly unless you hold AA status - Ex-Platinum I think it's called. I recent;y sent an O qantas fare SYD-ADL to AA and got 180 points. I didn't care about the low earning because I needed activity. If I held the correct status level with AA there would be a minimum points guarantee for 500 points.

The Qantas earning table for AA is here: American Airlines oneworld Partner You can see that E fares don't earn with AA, those are generally the sale fares.

The benefit with AA is not the short point to point awards but longer awards. For example an economy award is 10000 points between any two locations in Australia or New Zealand, 17500 points for business. So it would take a heap of red-e-deals MEL-SYD to redeem a MEL-SYD award, but the same number of flights could redeem a PER-AKL award.
