Heads up about program changes

Given Qantas's previous focus on Asia as the way forward for the business, it is my opinion that with all the flights withdrawn, down sized and combined with the DXB connection has Killed off any potential growth in Asia.

Absolutely agree, just sit in BKK, HKG, SIN, KUL (scratch that one) etc. and watch what and who comes in. QF's presence is now minimal and underwhelming.

Gone are the days when they used to fill the old 707's up with the "Jetaway" tourists (and white bag!), early memories 45 years ago watching my dad take off, QF was the only way to travel.

The changes have just emphasized the loyalty to Qantas part.

Bit hard to agree. The annual loyalty bonus reset says they don't want infrequent flyers/children/families to only ever flying with them. If they are so loyal they only ever book qantas there is no reward.

Then there is my situation where the recent devaluing says qantas are not interested in maintaining our relationship even if I give them every single flight I take; and also convince SWMBO to ignore the fear of flying and spend an extra 5 hours on aircraft and in airports to get to asia.

Time will tell if the latest changes work for qantas.

Ok, so im not going to go back over 83 pages of QF love in this thread ;)

But i thought id look up on QF's website about the different status levels.
Always at 2400 SC we have the options, but now at P1 we get those options again?

Ive always been a good boy and gifted my mum the SG, but id gladly take the 50k too!

So how do you read this table?

Has the 2400 SC level changed - it used to be any SC's counted, now it seems to imply that they have to be earnt on QF flight numbers??

Seems to be the usual Qantas confusion - if you look here Frequent Flyer - Flying Qantas and Partner Airlines - Status Credits and Tier Benefits - Tier Benefits

[h=3]"Even more benefits[/h]Reach 2,400 Status credits[SUP]Ω[/SUP] in one membership year to receive your choice of one of the following rewards

  • Complimentary Gold membership for a family member or friend or
  • Three complimentary Qantas Valet Parking or Chauffeured Transfer invitations∞ or
  • A bonus of 50,000 Qantas Points

Ω Status Credits are earned on eligible Qantas, oneworld alliance airlines, Jetstar Airlines and Fiji Airways flights only - see the Airline Earning Tables for details.

It says nothing about being Qantas or Jetstar only. On my own summary page seems to agree with this. Unless this is an "enhancement" on it's way in? Who knows.....

Well I have received a QF offer for SC earn on selected QF award flights.Does me no good especially as if international in J you will earn economy SCs.
Or pay for the flights through AA and get triple miles.

Got the same. Economy SCs for Business certainly a weird restriction

Ditto, and I won't be able to use it. It might be economy SCs for J but that is better than none!

There's a very simple reason why I don't buy the 'simpler and fairer'. Rather than customers being confused about which zone their flight falls - the simplest solution would have been to publish the miles against each flight segment. Like AA does, for each and every flight. It's right there next to the flight number.

You mean like how AA displays the booking class next to each flight before you book it, and QF only lets you see it once the flight is booked in MMB?

I can't even find it on my bookings in MMB, or on my itinerary / tax invoice. Am I missing something obvious?

mrpooky.

Hi Mr Pooky Click on Flight Details and it should expand it and give you the class their as per below

Travel ClassEconomy (E)

Flex Plat
QF - 1200 pts / 20 SCs
VA - 4000 pts / 20 SCs

It is this that has made me switch most of my spend to VA. It's not a perfect world there, but the points earning is VERY good, and the plat requal requirement is a lot lower. If you intend to redeem on US/EU routes then it can be very 'rewarding'.

Ok, time for another rant.
Booking some travel for next year and being the dutiful QFF that I am I try my best to find a great fare on QF to where I want to go.
SYD-LAX-JFK in J. Sounds good, the early bird specials are on happy days :)
Calculator shows 280 SC SYD-JFK.
I decide I would like a stopover in LAX before continuing on QF to JFK. SYD-xLAX-JFK is 260 SC :!:

How can this be? Who is writing these complicated tables? How on earth can a stopover reduce the SC earn and if it does what is the logic behind it? If it's designed to reward travel on QF then it's likely to have exactly the opposite effect

Just remember the mantra... Simpler™ and Fairer™.

Well actually soon SYD-JFK will cease to exist so the earn will be the same irrespective of whether you stopover or not as a flight change via LAX will be necessary! The quirk will shift to BNE -JFK bound travellers.

Good point, and one I hadn't thought of. Clearly the QFF interns hadn't either ;)
