They did have a program where to join up as a paid ($50?) member they were several available benefits including HHonors Gold status.

I believe that finished some time ago.

thanks serfty. I'll google them

I think all avenues to get a paid HHonors Gold have pretty much disappeared. I remember a year or so ago there was something on ebay as well - whether or not it was legit/or if it worked I am not sure.

I have just done this, but unfortunately did not read the time that it takes to go through. I have 2 upcoming stays at Hilton, and despite calling both Hilton and Virgin, neither seems able to assist in getting it pushed through any faster. Surely this must be in either one or both systems, and someone would be able to push it through a little quicker. My mistake but extremely disappointing that neither company either can assist or is willing to assist. There is always a solution to any problem - yes I know I should have planned this better, but I am sure if they wanted to help they would be able to.

Oh well - live and learn I guess.......

Luckily for me my rip to India had to be cancelled. It has now been over a month and still no status match, so not sure where to go from here?

I dropped from Diamond to Silver this year.. activated my Gold option through Velocity over a month ago.. and nothing. Lucky I haven't had to stay at Hilton recently I suppose...

I was under the impression that changing velocity status level reset the partner membership availability. Have just dropped from Platinum to Gold, soft landing not enough earn for gold level. But velocity is still telling me I've opt-in to the hotel program*.

what is the experience with having these partner memberships reset on level changes?

* pretty cough considering I requalied platinum twice since opting in. Really these partner benefits are rubbish

Takes a month from review date to kick-in as you get Platinum benefits for one month after review date.

Hi all,

I'm sure it's probably covered somewhere in the last 611 pages...

I am currently VA Silver but have a trip that will increase my status to Gold on the 5th of November (+ a couple of days for the review to take place). I have another trip planned with Hilton accommodation for the 18th of November.

Given the dates etc. Do you think it would be beneficial to request the comp HHonors membership from VA, or am I unlikely to receive any benefit (read: room upgrade) given either the delay in receiving the membership / applying the membership so close to my stay.

I think that you won't have the comp through in time and Hilton probably won't extend too many niceties without your Hilton account showing gold. Additionally, a November status match nearly wastes a year of Hilton status.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. If the comp is going to come through after the trip I might as well save it for when I know I'll be able to use it.

I wonder if it shows up quicker on the HHonors app and whether I'd be able to use that at check in instead.

I like your sense of desperation! I can see you'll be a Hilton status convert!;)

The app won't show any quicker than your account. There are gold challenges that you may like to try though. The VA SM will sit in your VA account until you want to activate it, or when you drop from status, whichever comes first. I've had a VA offer for hotel/cars/and the other useless SM for at least 2 or 3 years now, but the original SMS worked too well and I've renewed each year officially . Pretty poor planning that!

Some SQ flights in September were late to post and as a result I dropped to Silver during the review and then some flights from last year dropped off and I stayed Silver.

Called up and requested them to check and now have Gold status reinstated. Check on website and now I find that hotel complimentary partner membership is available. Again. Is this a glitch?

Thinking of opting in now to Hhonors Gold which should give me Gold until March 2017? Too risky to wait until April 2016 to opt in?

Presumably the system is treating you as a status attain rather than retain - take advantage of it!

JohnK I have read this advice about waiting until April to opt in to HH before, and indeed I followed it myself.
However now I am a (Diamond) member and read the rules it seems the renewal period is a calendar year.
So I would have been better off joining in January?
Have I missed something? As you have referred to it in your post I wondered if you could enlighten me.

As far as I aware you get a full year of membership year and the remainder of the current year. Hhonors membership year is January-December and you get grace until March.

I think opting in to say Hhonors Gold is tied in to attaining the relevant status via Hhonors itself which means if you attained Hhonors Gold now you would have Gold status through to March 2017. I am not sure what happens if you apply in January. You might be able to have it until March 2018.
