Just received this email:

Following on from recent correspondence you would have received in relation to changes to your Hilton Honors® Macquarie Platinum Credit Card, Hilton has made the decision to not renew its Co-Brand Card agreement with Macquarie Bank Australia. Therefore, from 1 May 2019, the Hilton Honors® Macquarie Platinum Credit Card will no longer be affiliated with the Hilton Honors program and you will be issued a Macquarie Rewards Black Credit Card as a replacement credit card.

As a valued Hilton Honors member, we want to reassure you that the Hilton Honors program will continue to operate as normal with all the great benefits you have become accustomed to.

Thank you for your loyalty

As a gesture of goodwill and to say thank you for your loyalty, we will extend your current Hilton Honors Gold or Diamond membership status to 31 March 2021. This will happen automatically from 1 May 2019 and you will not need to do anything. Any Hilton Honors Points you have earned will still be valid as per the Hilton Honors terms and conditions*. You will stop earning Hilton Honors Points through spend on your Hilton Honors Macquarie Platinum Credit Card and start earning Macquarie Rewards points with your Macquarie Rewards Black Credit Card from 1 May 2019.

We hope that you continue to enjoy the Hilton portfolio of hotels and the benefits offered by the Hilton Honors program for many years to come.

Yours Sincerely,

Mark Weinstein
Senior Vice President & Global Head of Customer Engagement, Loyalty, and Partnerships

Based on this, am I safe to cancel the card?

Yes. It does say 1st May. But I’m just leaving it as is for the time being anyway.

I’m with everybody else and the message I received posted above - I am waiting until end May before cancelling the card - once I am absolutely certain my Hilton membership has been extended.

I haven't received any recent correspondence - hoping to hang on to my Diamond for a couple of years

As posted on the other thread, my current Diamond status is due to expire on 31 Mar 19 and I should drop back to Gold. Depending on how you define "current" ie today's date (Diamond) or my status on 1 May 19 (should be Gold), this will determine whether I will get Gold or Diamond till 31 Mar 2021. To eliminate any doubt on maintaining my Diamond status till 31 Mar 2021, I have just finished putting 40K on this card!

That is EXACTLY what I would have done as well! :-)

For a card with no annual fee, I am not sure I fully understand what the rush to cancel the card is? I, myself, will eventually cancel the card, but I am in no hurry.

Ah, the difference is that I pay an annual fee and I have no desire to put spend on a card for which I will get no value

Not everyone gets the card without a fee. Over the years there have been various offers.

wish i could put $40K before its gone.. :-(

My annual fee is not due until the end of May, so gives me time to check things out.
Not really inspired by the replacement card...

mines $249, i got in early before they started discounting the card but over the years I have always negotiated and had it reduced by half.

The quick and the dead.
I was very lucky to jump on this deal early, fee free, and it has paid off handsomely.
The brains that hatched the deal obviously wanted some butts on seats asap , and offered a too good to last deal.
One of the very few times I have won handsomely… thanks AFF .. :)

edit..
So ,of course,I have nothing to lose by holding and waiting.
I will probably keep the new card until they want fees.. and then …..

They’ll probably grandfather us with no fees indefinitely.
It’s quite a decent card to use with no fees, no forex and some rewards.
It will replace all the overseas spend that I’m putting on my bankwest platinum card come July 1.

Did not know that there was ones with annual fee. Fair enough to want to cancel it ASAP.

I know the QANTAS version of the new card is not a great deal but is anyone considering this? I haven't had much luck with CC applications lately as my income is spread out over 4-5 roles so thinking of switching to the QANTAS card for the time being.

I got it very early - before it became all the rage on AFF. I wanted a second card that I could use for business spend and it replaced my Amex Business A/C. Not difficult to spend $40K and has kept me Diamond. Have to ring them up to see what my spend has been since Feb (my year start).

Interesting isn't it... I can 100% understand the hesitation and uncertainty in not wanting to lose something, and will also be waiting to see what happens post March 31... but I do find it intriguing how "your current ... membership status" could/should be interpreted any other way than the words that are there!
