Hilton Honors Macquarie Platinum Card Discontinued

Interesting isn't it... I can 100% understand the hesitation and uncertainty in not wanting to lose something, and will also be waiting to see what happens post March 31... but I do find it intriguing how "your current ... membership status" could/should be interpreted any other way than the words that are there!

This is the odd bit:
" .... we will extend your current Hilton Honors Gold or Diamond membership status to 31 March 2021. This will happen automatically from 1 May 2019 ….".

I don't quite understand why it is from 1 May when my usual Hilton Honors status re-assessment occurs on 31st March.

Edit: Currently Diamond, but unsure as to whether I drop to Gold, or retain Diamond, pending status assessment after 31/3/19. Hoping to stay Diamond of course, but their email could be interpreted otherwise?

1 May is when Hilton and Macquarie part ways. It is the date Hilton said they will be processing the extensions.

Did not know that there was ones with annual fee. Fair enough to want to cancel it ASAP.

But I don't want to cancel ASAP - that was @foggy. I'll bide my time:

I’m with everybody else and the message I received posted above - I am waiting until end May before cancelling the card - once I am absolutely certain my Hilton membership has been extended.

Thank you, I agree with that part.

Maybe I can try to elaborate on my post, above (# 61).

Currently Diamond, but should drop back to default Gold (through having the Hilton Macquarie card) on 1/4/19.

However, automatically, I will then be provided with my (current) Diamond status on 1/5/19 when extension are processed.

So, possibly Gold for me from 1/4/19 to 30/4/19, then back to Diamond (i.e., current status) on 1/5/19. Does that seem like the most likely outcome? Hard to believe actually. Just seems like possible problems ahead?

Perhaps I’m reading too much into this?

I disagree with your assessment that you will go back to Diamond on 1 May 2019. Based on your assumptions, you will have dropped back to Gold on 1 April 2019, so Gold will be your "current" status on 1 May 2019 when Hilton process the extensions. So Hilton will give you Gold until 31 March 2021.

That's my reading of it, YMMV.

I'm trying to meet the 12k spend for the free night certificate by the 1 May.
When does the 12k start accruing ? The T&Cs state that its the anniversary of the account opening. So I've gone through the list of transactions, and my first transaction is 10 October 2017 (so I'm assuming that is close enough to account opening).
So am I right assuming that to get the free night certificate, I needed to have spend 12k since 10 October 2018 ?
At what point does the free night certificate appear ? Once you've hit the spent, or once the statement is processed (my next statement is about 20 April).

That is my understanding as well (commencement date of mine is 22 Feb). I have also called up Macquarie Visa CS and been given a current eligible spend YTD (from 22 Feb).

I’ve not checked when it hit my HH account, have previously got an emailed confirmation but others here have rung up Hilton Honors and asked whether it was showing on account.

Does anyone know anything about Macquarie rewards. I know I could probably google it but just wondered if anyone has any ideas of their value and what you can transfer them too TIA

My initial look says you can't transfer them anywhere.

This is bizarre - I went on the website and it looks like you get gift ecards but damned if I can find what a reward point is valued at - maybe I'm not looking properly

No, you are looking properly - the program is a basic "Macquarie's out to make a lot of money on egiftcards". They will never change their way, it's all about them

Following the changes I'm about to cancel my card. I forgot what the annual fee is but whatever the figure it's not worth it.

My annual fee is zero but I’m very happy that I have Hilton diamond especially when I didn’t really earn it

After reading Chicken's post here Chicken's post here I'm starting to wonder if I should cancel the new Macquarie Rewards Black Credit Card or not, given I'm on FFL.
Who knows - one day it may become a good earner? Maybe? ;)

So, the new Macquarie cards are on the way. Received mine yesterday. However, Macquarie Rewards is of no benefit to me.

I phoned to change to the QF earning. $50pa extra, from my next annual renewal in October, I was told.

However, the Call Centre said that they won’t process the card change to QF rewards until 1st May, and to call back again from that date.

I plan to keep it as a back-up, in the short term, only. The 1:1 earning ratio is for the first $4,000pm, then it drops to half that rate. Poor.

Can we keep using our Hilton cards until May or are they invalidated as soon as we receive the new Macquarie only branded cards?

Well, the good news is that I’m still HH Diamond, according to the Hilton website. Only about 10 stays last year.

So, I’m confident that this will be extended to 31/3/21 from my understanding of the Macquarie blurb.
