I just rang them to reduce / waiver the annual $295 fee...they refuseda quick call and the annual fee was halved, $147.5 instead of the $295

My strategy was to say I didn't find value in this card and I wanted to cancel it, they transferred me to another department (retentions i think)and they offered me the reduced annual fee. When I called, I had already been charged the fee. Maybe you could call and try again? With a different rep, you might succeed.I just rang them to reduce / waiver the annual $295 fee...they refused
Thanks for the reply. I tried your strategy even saying I was going to cancel as I didn't use the card much...they put me through to the Retentions team, who put me on hold, but then came back and said they won't waive / reduce the fee. ps tried last year as well, with no success either! My strategy was to say I didn't find value in this card and I wanted to cancel it, they transferred me to another department (retentions i think)and they offered me the reduced annual fee. Anyone one know whether the international transaction fee that is charged when you use the card OS counts as eligible spend towards the $12000 spend required for the free reward night? I spent $12029 in the card year but if you take off the international transacton fees I woould be below $12000
Just checked my statements more closely...I don;t think I got HHonors pts for the international transaction fees ...so looks like International transaction fees don't count towards the $12000 spend....so annoying as I could have easily put another $100+ on the card...expensive lesson learntMaybe check to see if you earned hh points for the fees? If you earned points then it would be strange if they don't give you the certificate
$147.5 i'm paying for a $400-$600 night certificate that I've used 3 years in a row now. Also I received 2 certificates last year for some reason. No brainer for me. Also easiest diamond status for the non business travellers.I guess the everyones mmv.. but I completely fail to see the value in paying for this card.
I'm happy to use it when it suits, and as long as it remains free it will remain in my wallet..
otherwise….. it will go where the woolies card is going……………..snipsville…..
What is the main perk of diamond over gold Hilton?
But aren't you already HH Gold? So, maybe you would know a bit about the HHonors program?
maybe a higher chance of an upgrade? I don't know because I went from no status to diamond status by using this card. What is the main perk of diamond over gold Hilton?

There's a few spare H's in there

Guaranteed exec lounge access regardless of room type is the main one I see.
