Hilton Honors Macquarie Platinum Card

Can anyone tell me if there are any new promos for this card. That is, free annual fee. The only one I see, finished on 31st January 2018. Thanks

Anyone one know whether the international transaction fee that is charged when you use the card OS counts as eligible spend towards the $12000 spend required for the free reward night? I spent $12029 in the card year but if you take off the international transacton fees I woould be below $12000 :(

Just checked my statements more closely...I don;t think I got HHonors pts for the international transaction fees :( :(...so looks like International transaction fees don't count towards the $12000 spend....so annoying as I could have easily put another $100+ on the card...expensive lesson learnt :(

I only realised that i didn't get my reward certificate a couple of days ago....I think it is too late now to spend more as i'm beyond the 12 months now....my annual membership fee has just been charged and i usually get the reward certificate sent at the same time!

edit: FWIW just bought a $200 (-5%) GC online so shall see what happens!

The $200 purchase worked to get me over the $12000 spend!!!....reward certificate arrived overnight....phew!

Pleasantly surprised this morning. Had met my minimum spend to retain Diamond last week. Macquarie updated my status to Diamond on March 29. Scored me Diamond until March 2020 according to the Hilton CSR I spoke with this morning. Quite impressed as Macquarie had a stated 6 weeks for it to reflect. Took about 8 weeks for weekend night certificates to show so pretty happy.

Nice work! I still have another two weeks of spend before I hit 40K but am still Diamond despite an 03/18 expiry. Probably coming any day now.

likewise earlyriser. I'm still showing on the Hilton App as Diamond..even though I think that I didn't spend the requisite $40K last year.

How much aw you short by? But for a new card member is it required to spend $40k to get the diamond status?

I think the 40k spending req is based on your anniversary year where as how long it last for is based on Hilton’s normal cycle.
I timed my spending to hit 40k in Jan and have diamond until 3/20.
That’s my theory anyway. Can you guys who haven’t reached 40k yet check the expiry on your diamond. If you log into the website and view your card it should show it.

Right. I hit $40K around April 2016 and was given status until 3/18. Once I hit $40K very soon, I expect to receive until 3/20 as well. However, it is now the 5th of April and I am still Diamond despite only 15 nights so far in 18.

What does your account say when you log in? Still 3/18?

Phew :). Previously my date was showing blank (as I presumed they were rolling over the membership year). Now it's showing 3/19. Now I know I need $40K from my card year (22/2/18 to 21/2/19). Off to a good start but would be nice if they had a running total of eligible spend on the monthly CC statement

The fees and rates page shows the following outdated promo:
  • $0 annual fee (apply and be approved by 31 January 2018)
However my daughter applied in February and was not charged the annual fee. She had phoned the call centre prior to applying and was told there was no current promo. Win for her!

Anyone know how often they have this fee free promo? Might apply for +1 as well for the reward certificates if the promo comes around again :).

The terms and conditions of the card say that if you spend 40k in a card anniversary year you will get diamond for the rest of that year plus the next year. However, I suspect that expiry of diamond is based on Hilton's system so March each year. This is supported based on what the date says on the digital card although it could be wrong.
So qualification for Diamond based on your Macquarie anniversary of opening the card and expiry based on Hilton year if my theory is correct.
Depending on when your anniversary year is, you can time your spending to only need to spend 40k once every 2 years.

This explains why I did not lose Diamond on 1/4/18. Now if only I knew when in 16 I hit $40k.

Your anniversary year should be the important date, not when you last hit 40k.
The other theory is it gives you Diamond regardless of your spending. This card does do weird things. I'm putting some more spend on it now in the hope of a second free night cert as reported by some earlier last year.

I need to go back and look at when I secured Diamond from being VA Plat and then when that would have finished, as I may have then spent $40K+ on the Macquarie CC in the second of those two years which gave me the addditional year. Still, I'm pretty confident that I need to spend $40K on the card from 22 Feb 18 to 21 Feb 19, in order to secure another year of Diamond. Will be keeping a running tally.

Time your spend to hit 40k in 2019 and you should have Diamond until 3/2021. That way you would only need another 40k spend completed at the start of 2021 to extend it another 2 years.
