With the AMEX spend $400 get $120 back ending tomorrow, does anyone know if you can book two separate nights at the same property, both under $400 and receive the credit? It seems like this is possible, but was wondering if anyone has tried this previously?

  • Spend AU$400 or more at a single Hilton property to receive one AU$120 credit, with no more than one credit per Hilton property, up to a maximum of ten properties.

Yes no problem. You can book as many stays as you want as long as it accumulates to $400 in one property.

Probably a stupid question, but how can you be sure of this? Make the booking over the phone?

Make a booking online then call the hotel and ask them to charge your card today. Even if they say ok we'll do it I recommend you ask to stay on the line until it’s confirmed. Yesterday I called to pre-pay for a booking, was told it will be done but it wasn’t so had to chase them again today, this time insisting to stay on the line until I get confirmation from AMEX the charge went through.

Damn, that was close to a failure - just remembered to register. About to check out tomorrow from SEATAC Hilton 4 night stay and then another night at Everett tomorrow night at Hampton Inn. Nice haul of (double) points coming from USD$1K spend :D

By spending an eligible US$250/night, being diamond and registering for the promo, but that's just a rough guess! ;)

When there are double points promos on, is it worth paying for the 2x points package also? Would you get 4x the base + bonus points? Is it a better rate than buying points when they're on sale for 100% bonus?

I never have, so I guess for me it isn't. I haven't looked closely, but I always assumed it would be double base points only (though I may be wrong).

You'd get 4 x base rate. I opt for the 2x points package whenever the price is right. During my last stay in SYD in June (1 night) for example, an extra $14 for the 2x points package earned me an additional 6000 honors points which I value at ~ 1cpp.

I've never found the increased cost per night for the double point promo to be worth it, but then again each to their own.

Only used it once. The difference was maybe $5 a night. Worked for me...Adelaide I think

I think if it's a small difference to pay like that I'll do it.

If it's a double points promo on top of a 2x point package then I'll have to do some math.

Otherwise it looks like I'd be better off buying full points on a 100% promo.
- Just thinking of the pay 4 nights, stay 5, or
- Conrad Maldives on points or similar properties
