Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I think I am reading it correctly but if not let me know.

Members who join Priority Guest Rewards from 04 August 2014 are automatically eligible to receive DISCOVERY in stay benefits, rewards & recognition when staying at a participating GHA partner Hotels and Resorts outside the Event Hotels & Resorts network in Australia, New Zealand or the United Kingdom
Members who joined Priority Guest Rewards prior to 04 August 2014 must update their online profile at www.pgr.com.au to 'opt-in' to receive DISCOVERY in stay benefits, rewards & recognition when staying at a participating GHA partner Hotel or Resort outside the Event Hotels & Resorts network of hotels in Australia, New Zealand or the United Kingdom.

Also this line which is above the GHA benefits table for each tier.

For PGR members who joined after 04 August 2014 or existing PGR members who've ‘opt-ed’ in at
pgr.com.au and staying at a GHA Discovery Hotel outside Australia & New Zealand

Basically, if you had a PGR membership, you needed to give PGR consent to share your information with GHA to create a GHA account. If you have never done that, they won't have created an account for you.

As for the rest, PGR benefits apply at PGR hotels (Rydges, Atura, QT, Art Series). GHA benefits apply elsewhere

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

https://www.evt.com/our-brands/hotels-resorts/

These are the event hotels & resorts.

I read that as: if you're a PGR member you won't receive GHA/Discovery benefits at The Event Hotels eg Rydges etc because as a PGR member I'll be receiving PGR benefits at those hotels, not GHA benefits. Rydges etc only exist within Oz, NZ, UK. They're just referencing the geographical location of these hotels. They're not excluding GHA benefits within Australia for PGR members. That wouldn't quite make sense either. They used to have a Rydges in Perth but now only the Freemantle Esplanade one but there is a Pan Pacific in Perth and I'm sure they still want PGR members to stay (along with everyone else).

Thanks, I did not realise the Events Hotels did not inlcude the GHA properties in Aust. Its been awhile since I stopped using PGR.

I've got a flexible reservation at the (soon to be not) Hilton South Wharf in June. Though I live in Melbourne we tend to stay in a hotel the night before an early (7.45am) departure on a long trip (this one is over 3 months) so we can leave the sheets and the towels clean at home. Obsessive? No!

I don't want to stay at an airport hotel because of hotel quality and I have to get a taxi whatever I do. Based on the comments in this thread I'll write to the hotel to see if they'll honour Diamond benefits. Breakfast doesn't matter as we'll be too early anyway but lounge access would be valuable. However, I could also stay at one of the other chains where I have membership but no status (Accor, IHG, Starwood) without too much skin off my nose. This is the second time this has happened to me this year. I have a reservation at the Hilton CPH and they have agreed to honour the Diamond benefits although they will have left the Hilton family.

Park Royal at MEL airport is nice - no taxi required:). (Also a GHA member though).

Think DT Flinders was expensive before? Wait until the signage changes on HSW ... the only thing that used to keep HSW in check was HotP, when that went, zoom ... up went the pricing on HSW.

Yes I was thinking the same. DT has fantastic location and on some days it's already priced higher than HSW so only going to get worse in June.

HSYD on the way to lose the crown of worst value for money hotel in Australia...

I wonder what the input cost difference is in running a DT compared to a Hilton? Or even if there is any in real terms? The reason I wonder is because we've seen a bit of activity over the last couple of years DT wise in australia and thinking specifically of the DT Flinders, they are now, and have been for a while, largely charging what HSW and HotP used to charge 2-3 years ago.

I shouldn't read too much into the HSW disappearing I suppose, but the thought does occur ... is Hilton Australia, or at least the management bodies running the actual show on the ground, leaning more towards a future with DT's replacing, largely, the current hiltons as the 'presence' in Australia? Perhaps there is more margin to be made running a DT than a hilton in this particular market?

Across SE Asia and China there is a definite line between the DT brand and Hilton, and further up the tree, through Conrad and WA, though I've generally found the DT properties in Asia to be excellent, there is most surely an extra 'polish' to the Hiltons there. In Australia, being a bit generalist, I've been underwhelmed by the Hilton branded properties and in my eyes they seem to ... generally ... have provided a similar experience as a guest to the DT's of Asia.

HSYD has been charging, at rack rate in any event, at a level not unlike a Conrad in other parts of the world. HSW too went through a period where their per night rate essentially doubled, for ad-hoc bookings, within about an 18 month period ... I understand how these things work, this is not a whinge, but my mind is wandering into areas of market segmentation and demand and whatnot ... perhaps our market, as a general high level thought, is more conducive to DT pricing and services? High 100's to low-mid 200's / night rather than 300-500+/night for base level rooms???

Doubletrees tend to be smaller hotels than their Hilton cousins, and are set a notch down in terms of service and amenity. So, I would imagine they have lower overheads in that regard.

DoubleTree did specifically set out to increase its footprint in Australia, which is why you are seeing more of them pop up.

One assumes they are doing something right. The average nightly rate and the occupancy levels of the hotels in Melbourne and Darwin went up when they took over.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Maybe, I must admit I still like the two hours put on though.

Does anyone know if the new guys give lounge access on status or room category only?

I'll miss breakfast in the restaurant. :(

There's no published lounge access or breakfast benefit with the GHA Discovery program, at any level, but individual properties may or may not choose to include something.

I know, for example, that the Pan Pacific Singapore do include access to the Pacific Club for GHA Black members, but they are pretty much 'by the book' on other GHA benefits, including the precise level of room upgrade you are entitled to, assuming something is even available to upgrade you to. Other brands have been pretty good for me at the Platinum level (e.g. Kempinski), but not all (e.g. Viceroy).

GHA is a bit of a unique program, but has its benefits, particularly at the easy to reach Platinum mid-level, which only takes 10 nights to secure.

Cheers,
Matt.

There might be no hotel left at all...just looked outside and saw that the Hilton South Wharf was under attack

Riddle me this. I have a reservation for 30 May to 01 June... Was hoping to count a stay for status match purposes.

Should I stay or should I go elsewhere?

In short - I have no idea.

Though I do hope that we get some official news from Hilton or Pan Pacific soon.

ditto to the official interpretation seeing as i'd planned on a number of stays in melb to retain diamond including booking a stay with friends where my diamond benefits were to be used

Geez I'd be surprised if this counted towards status. I'd have thought you'd be given a pan pacific invoice at the end of your stay and that would be that.

Personally I'd play it safe if you're chasing status and go to the DT

I agree with Moopere, although I don't know for sure. Hilton count pretty much everything at check out, points, stays, nights, double dip etc. (you can change your double dip during a stay and provided it's done before check-out, it'll stick), so I'd be thinking at check-out, that bridging night will be regarded as a Pan Pac night with no breakfast included and no points/night/stay credits to your HH account (but I may well be wrong).
