How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Found the number of points needed.
So 3 night Hilton Venice checking in 24th Dec '14 consumed: -141459

Certainly shows the devaluation-4/10/07-175000 points for 6 nights in Venice.
And the same in Rome the week after with upgrade to the Imperial floor and Imperial lounge access at the Cavalieri.

Nice work to get upgrade to imperial! Wasn't so lucky last year!

In 2007 diamonds nearly always were upgraded to the Imperial floor.
As a side note way back in the FT thread on the Cavalieri I posted what I overheard at the next table in the Imperial lounge-it turned out to be a Blackstone exec talking to one of the owners of the Cavalieri-ie just after Blackstone took over Hilton. The owner was complaining of all the diamonds getting awards and expecting upgrades. One suggestion that came up and came to pass was to give diamonds access to exec lounges but not "named"lounges.

You gotta laugh though. Loyalty schemes, at least in name, are about loyalty (??) and keeping your customers spending at your brand rather than randomly choosing a property on a per trip basis. To then complain because the guests _are_ in fact returning, and in numbers, seems counter to the original purpose.

I'd have thought a better perspective would surely be to be overjoyed at the number of high value clients who seem to be returning to the brand (and they must be in order to gain diamond). Its sort of a glass half full/empty thing I guess. Yes, sure, high status guests might cost you a few bob more to accommodate, but the basic fact is that they _are_ there, spending and staying and making your property a success.

Ah yes, but drron neglected to mention that the Blackstone exec was named Basil Fawlty!

Now,now. He wasn't aware he was sitting next to a diamond staying on points who had been upgraded.:cool:

....It gets better! He whinges about too many free-loading diamonds and doesn't stop to think the guests seated around him might resemble that remark :p

Okay somehow I keep my Hilton Gold status and I'm staying in my first Hilton in Australia at the Hilton Brisbane Hotel. Staying on a Government booking so I don't expect anything from the Gold membership but I did get a reminder email mentioning Gold of site benefits of Room Upgrade and Wifi Lobby Access.

Would I get access to breakfast?

If you set your preference in the portal to breakfast (rather than 1k points), yes.

Thanks Deka, set as that option. I'm a fairly regular flyer to Brisbane and my office is in the same street so if it goes well I'll be back.

From memory, breakfast is in the lounge, with a $10-15 surcharge if you want to eat in the downstairs breakfast area. It has been a few months since I have stayed there, so that may have changed.

In Brisbane, as Gold, I think it's downstairs, but if you get an upgrade to an Exec room, you have breakfast in the lounge, or else pay a small surcharge to eat downstairs as you've said. I've always been upgraded when I've stayed there as Gold, and always been told I had to have breakfast in the lounge, so I'm not 100% sure on breakfast downstairs.

For Gold its a $10 charge to eat downstairs.

Both stays this month

Property: Hilton Kuching (four nights)
Room booked: King Hilton guestroom
Rate: MYR259++ (about $105 all in, per night)
Received: a superior room of some description with a lounge area separated by a nice swivelling TV, large plate of fruit (complete with Glad Wrap and a date stamp), bottled water, welcome note, buffet breakfast in the restaurant, three items of pressing per stay

Nice executive lounge with half-decent food offering, 6pm to 8.30pm. Alcohol is not self serve. Nice view over the Sarawak River (unfortunately it looks like the Yarra). The air-con failed on day two and they had it fixed. It failed again on day three and they discovered the motor had blown up so I was moved to a river suite with a separate bedroom. The property doesn't advertise wifi in the rooms but I was able to pick-up the connection from the lounge. Breakfast in the restaurant was decent.

Property: DoubleTree Kuala Lumpur (two nights)
Room booked: King deluxe
Rate: MYR323++ (about $125 all in, per night)
Received: King bed suite (either executive or deluxe), large fruit platter, buffet breakfast in the restaurant, three items of laundry per day, late check-out, welcome note, bottled water

A stella first time stay. I agree with others' comments that it's a superb property. The buffet breakfast must surely be the biggest DoubleTree buffet anywhere. The lounge is very nice (although a little on the small side) with drinks from 5.30pm to 7.30pm with a large range of food including several hot dishes. I'd happily return here over the Hilton. The 'Caution slippery floor' sticker on the shower screen didn't do much for me!

Sounds like Kuching has gone downhill.7 years ago paid sub $50 and got upgraded to their large suite on the top floor.Choice of 5 curries in the lounge in the evening,3 at breakfast.I was in heaven, mrsdrron less so!

Status: Gold
Property: Brisbane Hilton (two nights)

Room booked: King Hilton Guestroom
Room received: King Hilton Executive Room

Rate: $365 (about $182.50 all in, per night)

Booked via employer booking service but upgrade received. Welcome note but not other goodies. Has upgraded to Executive floor access was given to Executive Lounge (25th floor).

Lounge was good size but busy. Nice range of finger food during evening. Wide range of beverages, beers and wine. Breakfast (continental) was available in lounge or in restaurant downstairs (6th floor) for additional $10 charge.

Wifi in room free for Gold Members plus in lounge.

Status: Gold
Property: Hilton Hanoi Opera
Date: 11 Jan 2014
Rate: $168
Booked: King Deluxe
Received: King Executive

After arriving at Hanoi train station @ 0400 from the 'luxury" of the 16 hour journey Livitrans Train from Da Nang, I was after a short taxi ride delighted see the Hilton on a rather cool morning.
I was graciously welcomed by the friendly receptionist & outlined for an early arrival the room was available for check in at an additional 50% of the room rate.
Sure.. It was then mentioned than as a loyal member to Hilton I would be upgraded to the executive floor with a lovely view of the Opera.
The room was spacious, though furnishings were slightly dated the room was very well maintained & the bed was very comfortable.
I was also given the option of having breakfast in the lounge or in the main restaurant on the first floor.
The lounge on the 7th floor overlooking the Opera building was lovely with all day refreshments & a coughtail hour from 1800 > 2000 with an extensive range of F&B offerings.
The hotel is in a desirable location within walking distance to most of the attractions in Hanoi.
The only gripe about this property is that IIRC it is the only Hilton I have stayed recently where there was no welcome letter & or fruit/treat platter given in room.
I guess they simply overlooked it.
