How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Status: Diamond
Property: Hilton Sydney
Date: Jan 27-29
Rate: $279
Booked: King Hilton Deluxe Room
Received: King Executive (Not on the Exec Floor) which then became a King Relaxation Room

I've had numerous stays at this hotel and never really received a decent upgrade. Due to a cheap rate and lower than usual occupancy I thought I was in for a good shot.

Was told at check-in I'd been 'upgraded' to an executive room - I asked if there were any suites available, even a Nor1 upgrade and was told there was nothing available. At which point I mentioned that there were plenty of rooms I could book through the website. Was told he'd get back to me after 6pm.

I went to my 'executive' room which wasn't on the executive floor and was directly across from the lifts, even though my profile requests a room away from the lifts. So I went to the Executive Lounge and just thought I'd ask the question...sure enough the lovely lady on the desk made some calls and managed to get me a King Relaxation Room which I was very happy with!

For those of you who've been at the Hilton Sydney before, you'd know that the standard rooms aren't exactly spacious, so this upgrade was nice.

No other amenities or card from GM but beggars can't be choosers. I even managed to get a nice bath in whilst I was there.

Whilst I really appreciated the gesture and sincerely thanked the EL staff member, I do feel that there is a degree of warmth lacking from this property, all of my recent stays have been just OK, not great. Which is not something I'm used to at Hilton Hotels. IMHO.

What's the yellow stuff in the bowl next to the bath? I take that to be bath salts.... but from a distance, you'd think it was butter or something!

And what's with the shade of the lamp next to the bed? Looks a bit warped......

Odd taste for this Sydney property, though definitely a preferred room over the normal. I've never got an upgrade beyond an Executive Room (i.e. pretty much the regular matchbox) with Hilton Sydney. Can't say I stay too often to have any sort of pull, but there you go......

Yep, bath salts.

Lamp shades where this weird fabric thing.

I'm not a huge fan of the styling either. And feel like it's approaching the need for a refurb. But it's much better than some other hilton property's.

Little things annoy me though - like having to stand there for 2 minutes holding the blind lower button. Same again in the morning. And not being able to tilt the tv towards the bed.

This is my favourite room type at Hilton SYD, I actually prefer it to the Relaxation suite or the higher category King Suite.
Perhaps we should all try to check-in at the Exec Lounge? ;)

I'm quite charming ;)

Ah, but Princess Fiona is beautiful (to Shrek ;)).

I stayed once in 2013 as a Diamond and no love on the upgrade. Most of my trips now to SYD are day-trips, so not concerned - my home bed and room appointed furniture are more to my liking. Great to see you persisted on the upgrade, JMFK. Some here might use that little trick if the EL is still open upon their check-in

When I first saw your photos, I thought it was a suite in H.BNE. I needed to look closer to see it is a bit different, but a very similar style and age (agree anat0l?) but although offering a slightly dated look, it's much, much better than the usual fair for H.SYD.

At least yours worked! My last King Suite at H.SYD had a blind that didn't budge and let the sun in first up in the morning. Lucky I'm always up at 5am anyway!

PS.....Don't listen to Princess Fiona ;). Do not pass up the King Suite for that one! The King Suite is huge and very nice and yes anat0l........they do have the bath salts!

Some pics of the suite in BNE in case you forgot how it looks like :) and I can't blame you, they don't give them very often as complimentary upgrades, even for diamonds who stay there a lot.

Looks more spacious than Sydney...not that that'd be hard! I'm yet to stay at Hilton Brisbane...looks nice though!

Currently battling with Hilton over the Virgin Atlantic promotion and them not crediting the miles to my VS account. They've managed to credit correctly 1/3 stays and now telling me that 2000 points is the same as 2000 VS miles.

I think the Hilton BNE has only 4 suites, so they are somewhat generous compared to Sydney, which is not hard.

Nice upgrade at Conrad HKG.
Booked two base level connecting rooms Govt rate (one King, one double) upgraded to King Exec Suite and Harbour View Double connecting room.
Love this hotel :)

Nice hotel and nice (if small) lounge

Happy hour(s) need to be longer though!

It's a win if you have someone to share it with... I found it too big for 1 person.
My favourite upgrade in SYD is the relaxation suite.

I had a room full of teenage girls getting ready for a big night out.
It was definitely a win ;)
However my favourite room type flying solo or with Shrek would be the Relaxation Room followed by the Relaxation Suite.
The regular rooms there are so small that I just don't book them.

You know, you're only proving their point that they can sell those great rooms rather than giving them out as upgrades :p :p :p

DT KL treats me really well!

Staying on a P+P tonight and I scored an upgrade to the Terrace Suite. Load is light as well so I am definitely not complaining about this upgrade.

Summary of January stays:
Status: Diamond
Property: Hilton Brisbane
Total 4 stays (1 night each)
Booked: King Guestroom
Received: King Executive x3, King Suite x1
Received a welcome letter each time. Big bottle of water in the room and chocolates on the pillows (at turndown).
Once I checked in late (the lounge was already closed) and the nice lady at front desk gave me 4pm checkout and sent a bottle of Chandon Brut to my room.
Another stay I checked in early at 10am and my room was not ready yet so I was upgraded to a suite. It was a very nice gesture as most hotels would just ask you to wait until the allocated room is ready.
Breakfast at restaurant was good, especially liked the big salad and the smoothie of the day.
The lounge was busy with families (typical for January) but it didn't affect the excellent service from the girls there. Mark, the lounge manager is doing fantastic job in keeping a high standard and taking care of all the regular guests.
In conclusion, all stays were very pleasant and I found ALL the staff (front desk, housekeeping, room service, restaurant, exec lounge) were doing their job very well.
Too bad rates will almost double in February which means I will have to look at other options for my business stays in Brisbane.

Property: HSP
Total 2 stays (1 night each)
Booked: King Executive (Travelzoo deal)
Received: Relaxation Suite x2
Check in on both times was done by a very nice Japanese girl (can't remember her name) who did her job very well and was kind enough to offer 2pm checkout.
Received a welcome letter. 2 big bottles of water (still & sparkling) and a bowl of fruit. 2 bottles of water and chocolates on the pillows at turndown.
I liked the Nespresso machine and the Breville smart kettle in the room. Also, lots of amenities in the bathroom that such as toothbrush, mouthwash and shaving kit. All the above were not included in more expensive rooms such as the King Suite in BNE.
The lounge was nothing special, food and drinks were very average. The only ray of light there was Lena, the lounge manager, always very nice and attentive.
The pool was busy but I managed to get a cabana and relax with a few drinks from the bar.
I had dinner at Salt one night. Had a good steak matched with half bottle of "Angus The Bull" cab sauv.
It looks like service is getting better, or maybe I got used to all the flaws at this property. Anyway, I had good 2 stays and with such a tempting rate of $165 per night, I will probably return for a few more stays in February.
