How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

It looks like service is getting better, or maybe I got used to all the flaws at this property. Anyway, I had good 2 stays and with such a tempting rate of $165 per night, I will probably return for a few more stays in February.

Any tips to get such a good rate?

When you make the booking on the Hhonors website, enter the code GTZED under 'group code'. The discount only applies for HSP and not on all days so you need to be flexible.

Thanks for that, can only get $215 for King Exec (Am diamond so normally book bottom room) however that is on a Vic long weekend, still not *too* bad a deal.

Who are GTZED in case they ever ask at the front desk for 'proof' like they occasionally do re government rate?

It's a discount code provided by a website called Travelzoo. Unlike AAA or Gov rate, you are not required to show any kind of proof for using this code.

Pleasant overnight stay before an early morning flight. Lounge wasn't busy and snacks were ok. Surprised and disappointed to find that Hanuman is no more. Apparently closed at Christmas to be replaced by Donini's. They must have moved up from their position further along the boardwalk. Donini's was closed to the public for a soft opening. Hopefully room charging will continue as per Hanuman. We ate a steak at Mondo's which was fine.

This is my favourite room type at Hilton SYD, I actually prefer it to the Relaxation suite or the higher category King Suite.
Perhaps we should all try to check-in at the Exec Lounge? ;)

Well, I decided to try the lounge check-in option today and...Success!! Got upgraded to Relaxation room :)
Would I have got it by checking-in at the lobby? I guess we will never know... ;)

Nice. What room type did you book originally?

Diamond?

Out of interest how did you actually get to check in at the lounge? Did you ask at the checking desk because I'm guessing you may not have been able to access the lounge floor at first? Or maybe you could, I've forgotten SYD Hilton layout.

You can go up to the lounge on the 36th floor without a card.

I have a real dislike for Parmelia and Cairns. The two worst Hilton properties in the country.

I had three stays in Cairns in Jan 2014 - The staff were fantastic - went out of their way to assist where I had double booked a room for the same night - my fault and a non-refundable advance purchase - they credited to my last stay and allowed early check-ins on the first two stays. The EL ladies were great and the rooms two on exec floor and one spa room were clean and comfy. Internet worked well unlike Gold Coast last weekend.

How do you "double book" a room? Not that I want to, but curious. It is ether booked or not booked.

Just got my HH Gold membership added to a corporate booking at the Brisbane Hilton and advised by Kym she has already upgraded me to Executive Floor with Lounge Access.

Last stay counted for stay and earning points (didn't expect points).

So very happy with Brisbane Hilton :)

I've accidentally done this in the past on an AP rate too. It can happen when you book multiple separate nights for the same 'stay' in order to get a lower overall room rate. You just get the check-in/check-out dates wrong. Usually the result of brain fade when booking.

Usually I spot the error immediately but you still have to call to get the double booking cancelled.

Never in Australia or The UK, but almost always in China. (Not through any sense of DYKWIAness...not that there is anything wrong with that, more so because whenever I go to the lobby check in I am always redirected to the lounge.) The lounge is always seems to be accessible without a card.

Rate: $169/night - Little League Rate
Booked: King Guest Room
Received: Relaxation Suite - Level 6

Arrived and was warmly greeted after a short wait while some EK flight crew checked out. Check-in by assistant manager was warm and concise. First true suite upgrade in Australia (don't call HSP ones true suites..), two bottles of water were there on arrival. Limited turndown service, seemed to drop some mentos and the room service card on my bed. Water not replaced yet spoke to housekeeping who brought some new bottles. Didn't attend canapes service either night, yet breakfast was better downstairs by far then in the lounge. Did enjoy the fact that I could self-park and save $25/night on it!

Sure its a bit old the building yet the room, especially the bathroom felt new and clean.

Good rate, and I have consistently received the Relaxation Room every single time I've stayed there. Agreed it's tired, but the rooms, and especially the reno'd bathrooms in the Relaxations are comfortable. Cheap parking and room-chargeable too. The lounge has a great view of the MCG.

I'll happily stay here if the HSW rates are too high.

Arrived to the fireworks of Lunar New Year which were very impressive. They had set aside a couple of rooms on Level 59 to watch. No suite or harbour view upgrade this time as they were full for the New Year. We probably could have asked for a room change from the 2nd as the place was very empty and the breakfast and evening drinks in the EL were a pleasure without the overcrowding. The peak view room was fine with a replenished fruit bowl, replenished chocolates, plenty of water and a special NY pate of goodies. All up, a great stay at my favourite hotel.

ps there is an excellent walking/jogging track up Justice Road, along Kennedy Road then up to Bowen Road. The climb is tough but once you get there it is flat and very worthwhile. Goes all the way round to Happy Valley.
