How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Why not just go have breakfast at the main restaurant, quote the room# and be done with it? Never been a problem in my vast experience of 3 stays.

Because some hotels will charge you for it .. this choice is not a hhonors benefit despite many times having been given the choice, you have to check first to be sure ... or just pay the bill if it comes to that I suppose.

Well, I'm treating it like a given benefit. Makes things easier.

Yes, it has worked well for you and some others. However, I've experienced something different. I've done what you did only to find that the "be done with it" came as a room charge for the restaurant breakfast. Having the HSW restaurant breakfast charged to the room and then having to go through the matter of getting the charge removed was something that I can do without. And that came with a friendly 'warning' at Reception that I (as a diamond) was only entitled to the EL breakfast.

Since then, I've either gone to the EL for juice/coffee (the hot offerings aren't to my taste - I'm more into the omellete station at Hilton Hotels), or else skipped their EL breakfast entirely. However, based on your experience and the comments from others, next time I'll go into it a bit further to do my best to score the restaurant breakfast. It may just be down to an inconsistency due to staff on the day, perhaps.

Edit: trippin_the_rift, we are on the same page and are all talking about the non-breakfast room rate, aren't we?

HSW for AFF drinks. I was given a King Yarra Suite on 17th floor. Booked an Executive Room.

Was very pleased with a bottle of Lagavulin in the room along with the bottles of water.

We ended up staying for 4 nights as we were moving into our new home and I didn't want to be anywhere near people working. (Which is why I'm now in Europe)

Parmelia Hilton Perth
When: Christmas Eve
Room booked: Twin Hilton Guestroom
Rate: $124 AP (excluding Hilton Macquarie 20% discount)
Received: Upgrade to king room, "welcome back, Mr Danger", three Christmas sweets, obligatory 2 free water bottles. I had my parents join me for breakfast and so I had booked the room for two people (thereby ensuring two breakfasts would be included). At check-out the third breakfast hadn't been charged to the room. The desk agent said they would have passed on all restuarant charges by this point and said no to worry about it. The 20% was refunded in a few days.

At Conrad Singapore as a Diamond member.

Booked basic classic room back around September. Have become HH Diamond since (and knew I would). Due to commence stay in a couple of days. Have been 'upgraded' (I put that in quotes as I have stayed here before in an 'executive' room a on lower floor) to an executive room. So far so good, in line with HH Diamond policy. Then I check 'new' rate and find price has gone up SGD100 + taxes. Talk about taking the pi55.

I suspect we will have words.

Hlton SW
25/12 - 28/12
King room $168 December sale

Upgraded to King exec, 2 bottles of water & note from GM. First day had breakkie @ EL, was not happy with their offerings so went down to the restaurant the next two days (did not ask anybody). No nasty surprises in the bill either.

HSW Dec 23 - Standard room upgraded to Exec Suite corner. 2nd best room in the hotel. I suspect it was something to do with some drinks evening I may have had a hand in :)

Drinks from mini bar not charged, bottle of something left in the room for the next guest.

Sydney Hilton

Booked twin guest room via Need it Now website (hilton website was offering stupid prices at the time). Was very surprised on checkin to see my diamond status was recognized even for this booking and received upgrade to executive room. Two bottles of water, fruit, packet of melting moments and welcome back letter from GM. Very happy!

That's nice for them to do so. Even though such 3rd party bookings are outside the T&C's of HHonors, it's nice when it happends ... a bit like suite upgrades.

BTW, did points & stay/night credits post as well?

Since my last post I've stayed at a few north american Hiltons and can confirm Breakfast in the restaurant is a given benefit, along with exec access.

As a diamond you DONT need to book a breakfast or exec floor rate as both are free. If you book with either - you should get something else to compensate. For example today at SEA I got $16 credit at the restaurant.

Adelaide Hilton
When: 13-23 January
Room booked: King Guestroom
Rate: $170/nt Govt
Received: Diamond upgrade to corner King Executive, 2 bottles of water (which have been replenished), welcome card from the GM and a selection of chocolate truffles. Also given the option of having breakfast in the Brasserie - extensive buffet and cooked to order omeletes etc.

Booked it January last year as I knew I'd be coming for the Tour Down Under. So far has been worth it :D

As a six year HHonors Gold/Diamond that is the case.

FWIW, until August 2008 there were different rules for North American properties and elsewhere. NA had guaranteed bennies, elsewhere did not - although most time the upgrade occurred.

e.g. The Parmelia Hilton in Perth used to provide good upgrades but no breakfast (it does not have an exec lounge).

Conrad Resort Bali
Booked Deluxe Lagoon Room for April.

Got a call today from hotel to advise that due to renovations the room is unavailable. Been upgraded to Lagoon Suite with Club Privilages  for free. :D

Happy as a pig in shlte!
