How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Upgraded to Bow Suite (NZD910 a night) from the cheapest room at Hilton Auckland (NZD310 a night) this week.

WOW - lucky you!
As a Gold, my +1 got an upgrade to a higher room on a free night certificate (from the Q4 promo). We were lucky to get the room (booked three weeks before arrival) as the hotel was booked out - a cruise ship was in port.
Also got a bottle of red, 2 x free drinks, cooked breakfast, water and chocs. Got to love those anzac bikkies in the room too. :D
We were very impressed with the level of service and the friendliness of staff.

Hilton Lake Taupo
Rate: NZ$180

Room booked: King Guest Room
Room received: King Deluxe

Received an upgrade to a Heritage Wing room with a huge bathroom with freestanding bath but an awful hemmed in location which gave a very limited view of the lake, and a shared verandah.
On the second morning I spoke with Blaine, the Front Office Manager about moving. He was very understanding and because we were staying 6 nights moved us to a corner heritage room also with a huge bathroom and fantastic double shower plus rain shower.

Received continental breakfast (cappuccino extra
:() and daily water and chocolates. Breakfast was quite limited with the same old same every morning. We were told we could upgrade to a cooked breakfast but no mention of how much.

Wireless internet in-room was very slow. Free wireless in the lobby for everyone.

We ate in Bistro Lago on two evenings and the meals were sensational!

Service by most staff was very casual and a bit spotty - not nearly as professional as at the Auckland Hilton.

Just back from a pleasant couple of days in Bangkok. Even more pleasant thanks to the http://www.australianfrequentflyer....stant-hilton-honors-gold-promotion-35485.html.

Thursday, 16 Feb
Property: Hilton Millenium Bangkok
Room booked: Standard Room
Rate: Conference room
Received: Upgrade to Exec Floor with lounge access which included two pieces of complimentary ironing each day.

I was there in Jan as a Diamond and while most things were ok it wasn't a special experience.

Actually the hard product was excellent, the people weren't the best that day;

For example, I got off the ferry and couldn't find the reception, asked a uniformed staff member and their response was surly at best.

Asked for a diet coke in the lounge and again an attitude. Asked for water and was given a glass, had to virtually plead for the 600ml bottle. More attitude from the staff. And so on.

I didn't know there was a shortage of products in BKK due to the recent floods, I only got there that morning. It would have been nice to be told rather than find out later.

I'm polite and respectful to staff, no ugly Aussie here.

My next night at the Conrad was so much better.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?Trap for the unwary

Beginners' trap; most of us have done it before.

Yep!

I haven't been game enough to try the BRG. Theory being a wonderful thing, that should give the Wotif etc rate (through Hilton) and the points/stays/nights.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?Trap for the unwary

I used the BRG last week for the Hilton Strand Helsinki. Expedia rate was around $350 cheaper for the 4 nights but I wanted the points. Booked the Hilton rate then sent in the claim and they approved it, with the $50 credit to be added at checkin.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?Trap for the unwary

Just something interesting - I'm checking in to HSW tomorrow for 3 days as HH Diamond. I booked a King Hilton Guestroom with Dinner/Breakfast for two people (which I can confirm with the email they sent me in the booking confirmation). I logged in this afternoon and noticed that my room for checking in tomorrow is now a "King Executive Room". Has anyone else ever noticed that they've been regraded in the 24 hours prior to checking in?

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?Trap for the unwary

Had that happen on my last stay at HSW in February. Nice to know you have an upgrade in advance. Though I imagine it could be withdrawn if paid occupancy increases.

This is normal at HSW in my experience.

This was also the case for me when I booked HOTPANTS for the May 19th MEL trip

Just an update on Fiji Hilton - we were staying in the 3 bedroom deluxe beachfront so there was nothing to upgrade us into. Breakfast was provided in package so they couldn't give us that either.

But Diamond freebies were - daily internet free, invitation to GM's drinks (not sure this was a diamond thing) and a gift from the GM - minature wooden ceremonial bowl.

As an aside this resort was lovely. It has moved from the last week from no 3 to no 2 on denarau island on tripadvisor.
