How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Just an update on Fiji Hilton - we were staying in the 3 bedroom deluxe beachfront so there was nothing to upgrade us into. Breakfast was provided in package so they couldn't give us that either.

But Diamond freebies were - daily internet free, invitation to GM's drinks (not sure this was a diamond thing) and a gift from the GM - minature wooden ceremonial bowl.

As an aside this resort was lovely. It has moved from the last week from no 3 to no 2 on denarau island on tripadvisor.
The GM is a great guy and an AFF member.

 I simply assumed HOTPANTS was some concert/show or other you were attending. (Another new group/show I did not know about, nor probably would have asked).

Stupid auto-correct
I of course mean the Hilton on The Park MEL

I wasn't going to say anything but since you came clean on it, I'm admit I was thinking of all sorts of situations where someone might want to book hotpants for a trip in May.:p

For the record: I will not bring the group into disrepute by wearing hotpants to the AFF Museum/ Lunch DC3 event on May 19th :p

Hilton Brisbane now show it as part of the upgrade options at the time of booking in the estandby section, this afternoon I was offered the chance to upgrade to executive for free, and it mentioned it was part of being a diamond.

markis10, you have requested to be upgraded to ONE of the following premium rooms if offered at check-in:
Requested eStandby Upgrade(s)® Extra per night Total for the stay
King Executive Room Non-Smoking 0 AUD 0 AUD
All prices subject to applicable taxes

I wonder if this is going HHwide? I booked a couple of nights at Hilton Cairns to coincide with the eclipse (which happens to be occurring on my 50th birthday). The hotel, as one could imagine, is sold out and I only got in with diamond guaranteed availability, so I reasoned the only hope of any kind of upgrade was to check all the "estandby" options (all at a cost). It'll be interesting to see what (if anything) comes of it!

(only room offered under the diamond guarantee was a King Guest)

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?Trap for the unwary

Just something interesting - I'm checking in to HSW tomorrow for 3 days as HH Diamond. I booked a King Hilton Guestroom with Dinner/Breakfast for two people (which I can confirm with the email they sent me in the booking confirmation). I logged in this afternoon and noticed that my room for checking in tomorrow is now a "King Executive Room". Has anyone else ever noticed that they've been regraded in the 24 hours prior to checking in?
Has been my experience with every HSW stay lately.

Stayed at various Hilton Hotels this year:

HOTP x 2
Booked: King Guest Room
Rate: Points + Pay
Received: King Relaxation Room with Spa (Top floor)

Very impressed with this hotel where the Front Desk Manager personally welcomed me and escorted me to the room.

HSW
Booked: King Guest Room
Rate: $189
Received: King Relaxation Room

I don't think I need add any further comment about this hotel!

Hilton Kuala Lumpur
Booked: King Guest Room
Rate: RM$350
Received: King Deluxe Plus

Overall experience was good and staff was courteous and eager to assist. Very happy with my stay

Hilton Kuala Lumpur
Booked: King Guest Room Lakeview
Rate: Premium room rewards @ 28,537 each night
Received: Grand Executive Suite

The suite was fantastic and possibly the best I have been in compared to all the other Hilton Hotels. Room was modern, clean, and spacious.
When checking the rate for this hotel, look out for premium room rewards that can be cheaper than standard room redemption. For example, standard room redemption at this hotel is 40,000 points. But a King Deluxe plus can be had for ~39,000 points.

Hilton Parmelia Perth x 5
Booked: King Guest room
Rate: Rack rate $495
Received: Either King Deluxe Plus or King Suite

Stayed 5 weeks at this Hotel, pretty much everyone could greet me by my last name. Front Desk Manager was eager to assist and secured room for us even though hotel was heavily overbooked and Diamond guarantee wasn't available. No issues with late check out of 5-6pm. This Hilton possibly has the best service of all.

HH Diamond
Hilton South Wharf
8-11 March 2011
Booked: King Hilton Room, Rate $315 (less 20% - first time I'm going to be using the Hilton Macquarie card!)
Upgraded to King Relaxation Suite for the length of my stay, which is amazing.

I noticed that the lady at front desk at check-in was trying to sell me breakfast in the restaurant, saying it's broader than the continental breakfast in the Lounge. But up this thread people mention that you can ask in the Lounge about breakfast downstairs - is it really this easy?

It certainly was the last time I was there.

Even if you cannot go downstairs the lounge normally has scrambled eggs and bacon available.

Anyway, the next couple stays as a HHD will determine whether I stay with SPG who have been very nice to me with upgrades in recent years.

Just to update:-

Hilton Budapest (Castle)
24-27 February 2012
Booked: King Guest Room
Received: King Club Danube River View Room
Rate: best rate guarantee which worked out ~AUD$60 per night

Received welcome note plus bottle of house wine.
Room is a two category upgrade (being 1. club level and 2. river view) and the check-in agent made it seem that the two category upgrade was a great result.
Great views of the river, city and Parliament House

Added: I had to push for a late check out here where I needed a 3pm c/o. The best they could offer a maximum of 2pm and advised that they usually only give 1 extra hour after the official 12pm checkout. SPG (non resort hotels) would have given 4pm without even flinching.

Doubletree by Hilton Istanbul Old City
27 February 2012 - 2 March 2012
Booked: King Guest Room
Received: King Guest Room with Terrace
Rate: ~EUR90 per night

One category upgrade ie. same room but with a terrace. Rooms are tiny (~20sqm at most) and the balcony (~8sqm) but not really useable when its snowing outside and a facing another building metres away. It is a nice new property ~1 year old with good location in the Old City, right in front of the tram stop that can take you to most tourist sights of Istanbul.

Both properties appeared to have low occupancy rates.

I know its only two experiences (three if including ADL Hilton) but none offered suite upgrades even though my feeling was that occupancy was quite low. In the same situation with a SPG property, I would have had a good chance for a suite room. IME with SPG properties anyway, is that the hotel checks for a standard suite availability first and then search downwards from suite to booked room, wherease I felt HHD looked at booked room and worked upwards and offered the first available. All the other in-hotel benefits that HHD offered eg. lounge, breakfast, internet were also complimentary as a SPGP so it was tied in this respect.

I know Hilton has a better presence in AUS but I rarely travel locally nowadays so SPG might be a winner for me, at this stage. I very much like my suite upgrades.

Added: Guaranteed 4pm checkout as a SPGP is a winner too.

What were your thoughts of the Hilton Budapest (castle area)? I loved it, great hotel. However, no status at the time so no talk of upgrades etc. I managed to get a good room on a cheap rate, even after I rejected them trying to talk me up to something more. I found the breakfast there to be exceptional. Did they have an exec level?

I think it's a very good hotel and would have no hesitation recommending the hotel to anyone else. The hotel felt a little bit dated but then I can understand why, and its because its perched right in the middle of the old-city amongst the heritage sites. Its perched high on the hills so if you get a room with a view, then its panoramic views of the city, river below. We had the Parliament House view and at night, it was beautiful. Staff were very good and tried to help where possible.

There is an executive lounge, on level 3, and that lounge offered all day drinks (soft drinks, coffee, alcoholic beverages) and nibblies, plus a very good breakfast spread too. I thought the breakfast in the main restaurant was good, definitely more than enough variety for most folks, but I have seen some very good breakfast spreads in other hotels eg. Westin Grand Berlin, Hotel Danielli Venice, most 5* properties in Bangkok, Westin Sydney/Melbourne. However the views were great if one got a window table.

For my rate of $60 per night .... it was a bargain really.

It certainly was the last time I was there.

Even if you cannot go downstairs the lounge normally has scrambled eggs and bacon available.

But only on the weekends. During the week, as at many Hiltons, you might be lucky and get a croissant but otherwise its cereal and cold cuts, muesli etc.
