How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Have you worked out how it all came to this? On the occasions that I've entered the Executive Lounge (using the key swipe) with no-one at the desk, I can't remember being challenged after passing the desk.

I think the problem is that when I entered, a scrum of 8 of us came into the lounge at the same time (unrelated to each other). The Lounge Manager was not at the desk and people walked straight in, but then the Lounge Manager then started running around the lounge requesting room numbers from everyone. The guest I was entertaining was on their own getting a drink as I was finding a seat, and didn't know what to say, which is how we got into the situation.

I think the awkward thing was that it was handled rather bluntly, which led my friend to feel uncomfortable about the whole thing. The Lounge was busy and I suspect that the Lounge Manager was indeed busy, which may have explained why they were so blunt and appeared to put the guest on the spot.

As I said, I'm not blaming the Lounge Manager in all of this.

My experiences have been very different. When we've accessed with no one at the front desk, I can't remember a time where the lounge staff have NOT come up to welcome us, with clipboard to write name and room number and get numbers (usually for us it's either 2 or 2 + child). I've always given correct numbers with a full expectation of paying the cost if billed. It's never been billed and I've never felt remotely uncomfortable about the way this task has been managed (more as a welcome, but with an understandable ulterior motive). I have noticed though, the room number, name and number have always been a bit of a scribble on what appears to be scrap paper, so I suspect it's only for the staff to do a quick computer check and then discarded.

Staying at HSW tonight on a freebie from the 4th Q promo from 2011.

Staying in a King Yarra suite.

Anyone else at HSW:?:

Love to join you Bill, but no go this time.

Next Friday we're SYD Hilton if you're there though!

I am at HOP! Couldn't swing the $400 room rate I was offered ;)

Booked King Guest
Got : relaxation suite 20th floor :)

Also managed to hack the TV so off to watch Fringe whilst I scarf some room service down.

No welcome letter from the manager this time...

Well, if SYD Hilton was within the corp budget, I would be there tonight. Alas I am earning Priority Club points at HI Darling Harbour instead, and enjoying the 3 x Fat Yak at the PC Meet & Greet at the bar.

And again next week the Hilton was nowhere near an acceptable Rae, so will be at HI Old Sydney instead. Oh well, PC points vs HH points ... Value?

Hilton Tower Bridge
Booked Double Exec, received Double Exec.
To be fair they did allow me to check in at 10am. To be unfair the front desk was pleased to advise me that as a Diamond member they had upgraded me to an Exec room. Some back-pedalling ensued when I pointed out that I had booked an Exec room

OT: If anyone has stayed at both Canary Wharf and Tower Bridge, which would you say was better? They get #30 and #18 respectively on TripAdvisor, and both look very good.

It really depends on where you need to work/play. Canary Wharf can be a bit out of the way, unless you're a b(w)anker!

Pretty much all of London. South Quay on the DLR seems to be quick for getting into the centre of London, so I'm not worried about location as much as the hotels themselves and their price per night. Canary Wharf seems cheaper per night, but is Tower Bridge much better?

Beardoc we may check the other hotel tonight.
The food at Canary Wharf Hilton has been excellent this week and the DLR is great.
i never did get the 55 pound weekend rate at Canary Wharf that is mentioned on FT site.

I haven't been able to get that either - I've ended up booking into Canary Wharf for 4 nights in April, and the Doubletree Westminster for another night (Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf were over GBP200 that night!). I'll be interested to hear your comparison of the two!

Doubletree Westminster.. is that the one not far from Regent St, or am I thinking of another property?

Depends what you consider the centre of London.... if you consider Bank, then sure, but anywhere else (e.g. Oxford Circus, Victoria, Bond St, etc) then possibly a bit easier from Tower Bridge. Ho hum.. only a few minutes +/- I guess.

I have only stayed at Hilton Canary Wharf so can't compare with Tower Bridge. Just finished a 6 night stay at CW. As a Diamond, I booked the cheapest refundable room and got upgraded to an Executive room (with a river view as requested). Arrived at 0930am and told a non river view room was available immediately but if I wanted a river view, I had to wait a short while. Advised to have breakfast in the lounge, and by the time I finished at 1015am, my room was ready. Option to have free breakfast in the restaurant was given; usual good Hilton breakfast fare. Friendly staff, and good location for me as I was attending a conference at Excel; easy also to get into city via Canary Wharf underground (Jubilee line). Cost was chaep at £147.80 (including tax) / night tho. work was picking up the tab. Wifi (free) was reasonably fast. Room was a little on the small side but fine for me traveling solo...cove and Flashware saw my room, so maybe they can comment further....(not the state of untidiness it was in, tho:oops:)
