How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Unless you know someone at HSYD who can guarantee proper upgrade you shouldn't be so keen about paying good money and staying in a cubical.

FS SYD must be one of the worst properties in their portfolio yet the base rooms are still much better than HSYD and an outdoor swimming pool, a rarity in the CBD, is nice bonus.

If you don't mind the FS location then better check out Shangri-la. If price is similar this would be my choice.

Thanks for the tips. I have no plans to stay at HSYD at that price. In fact, exceeds company policy so a no go. I cannot fathom why a diamond would book an executive room there anyway. Exactly the same as a standard and you already have EL lounge privileges. Total waste of money IMHO.

Undecided on what to do just yet. I've stayed at the Sheraton on the park previously and liked it. Wondering if the Marriott is worth a try. I was even considering the Hyatt Regency, but location isn't that convenient. Being near Wynyard, Town Hall or Central station is needed.

I'm pretty sure every room has a balcony.

CNS is just one of the Hiltons which is struggling for space in ELs as a result of status matches and ease of access to diamond status. I have been in the Tokyo and Singapore Conrads this week and staff there have noted a significant increase in guests with lounge access even with the most basic of rooms in the past few months.

as for Gemma, as I am a regular and know her pretty well I am always well looked after. But I regularly see guests get pissed off or frustrated with her as they don't know her style or rules.

Tara was fast becoming my favourite lounge attendant but I gather she has moved to HSP?? A shame, as I have zero intention to visit that area in the foreseeable future.

If you have SPG status then both Sheraton or Westin are good choices. Sheraton exec lounge is very nice!

Sadly not :( I thought I had a World Mastercard and was going to give the stay once, get gold thing a whirl, but alas I no longer have that card. I'll just be a regular pleb wherever I land up choosing.

I need to be in Sydney at the end of the month. Looked at Hilton and cheapest was just under $500/night! As a diamond, I'm keen to stay there, but that's taking the proverbial. I can stay at the Four Seasons for $100 less per night!

If you can wait closer till the dates they may release rooms below exec level but I did hear they are getting alot of larger group bookings lately which is making it hard to get anything under $300.

Best time to check prices I find is usually between 11am -12am.

Property: DT-CNS
Booked: Base
Received: Suite
Status: Diamond
Rate: $125 Gov't Rate

An interesting stay at DT Cairns. First time here that I've received a suite and of course that was very much appreciated.

This hotel still manages to underwhelm though as even the suite has no mini bar, which I find very odd. Coupled with the fact it's a "tour group" hotel and it certainly looses some gloss. Breakfast was ridiculously busy where I couldn't get a coffee due to the queue and the newly imposed $10 fee for full breakfast is not an option I'd take as the hot selection is, well ... boring.

I received the signature DT cookie, the newspaper, two waters, and chocolates on check in, along with a welcome card from the GM and drinks and nibbles vouchers for the bar.

Staff are very pleasant though, especially the bar staff, who are excellent, friendly and efficient. All in all, DT-CNS remains an option for me due to price only.

no mini bar! i didn't realise until my last CNS stay that it's only the top 3 or 4 floors of the Hilton that have mini bars!

I am glad if someone was to eventually get the suite it was you.My last stay I mentioned the word upgrade at checkin after booking one room below the suite and the look I received made think it was a room they never gave out unless you booked it.

Still the liquor store only a few floors below tends to help
That is true. The lack of a mini bar is not a deal breaker. I came across rather negative and did very much appreciate the suite upgrade. The hotel is what it is and the price is good for what I received. However, I've seen ridiculous rates here and if the Gov't rate was to move up much, then my whole stay pattern would change.

I didn't realise they had suites. Or is there only one?

Below H-CNS? I've always walked a few blocks to get wine, be a bit peeved if there was one right underneath!

I think theres a shop ground floor facing the water. When you come through the esplanade gate its on the right if I remember correctly.

No. I took it as a reply to the no mini bar at the DT-CNS. There is a bottle shop downstairs at the DT.
