How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Hilton Sheffield:
HH Diamond
Stayed: 11-12 April 2012
Booked: Twin Hilton Guestroom, GBP66 (AAA Rate)
Received: King Hilton Deluxe, 2 bottles of water plus one 1.5L bottle of water, fruit bowl, 175ml bottle of wine, and a chocolate marshmallow-fruit kebab platter, complimentary parking for Gold and Diamond members, 2 free drinks in bar, and full breakfast for 2 in restaurant.

This is an older hotel, but I have to say my experience here was lovely - there's only one room in the entire hotel that has a MASSIVE external balcony, and we were in it. I have never seen a list of inclusions as big as the ones here for a hotel that was less than AUD100. It was incredible.

Booked king at LAX Hilton and received that, albeit in a refurbished room.

Hotel was cough. No minibar, fridge. Overpriced in my view. What else do you do at LAX?

I have a day-use room here in June.
Wasn't expecting anything special and glad to have that confirmed
Will however be better than the airport I think

Doubletree by Hilton Westminster, UK
12-13th March 2012
Booked: Twin Guestroom, GBP130 (inc. taxes)
Received: King City Suite, 1 free drink, full hot breakfast in hotel, two bottles of water, handwritten note from Front Office Manager, two bottles of water, chocolates delivered with Manager Letter, and chocolates delivered at breakfast as well.

Wow, the suite here is incredible! It's just above all the other buildings, so you have a fairly wide view of Westminster. Only thing is that being in Westminster, this would be a great business hotel, but boring on weekends. Also not next to a Tube station - it's around 5 minutes to Pimlico or 10 minutes to Westminster station. But I did like this - it's bright and airy and very pretty!

I have had awesome luck as a Diamond with Hilton Sydney recently. Several upgrades from cheapest room category to Relaxation Suite, and one to the Master Suite which is insanely big. Colleagues on the same booking have fared quite well on the upgrade front too.

I filled out the online feedback form and mentioned that I always find their beds really hard, and the General Manager wrote me an email apologising and saying that he would make sure the staff put a soft underlay over the mattress every time I stay there from now on.

Not a huge fan of the hotel in general though - brekkie at Glass is a bit average, the beds are rock hard and don't have the nicest sheets, and the hotel's location leaves a lot to be desired. But it is generally very good value and the service is consistently good.

HH Diamond
Stayed: 14 -16 April 2012
Booked: 2 X King Guestroom, $69 + 20,000 HH points per room per night
Received: Relaxation suite and interconnecting King Hilton Deluxe, 2 bottles of water per room per night, exec lounge access for 3, b'fast in either lounge or buffet, early check in / late check out. Last stay at HTOP I was underwhelmed, but Mrs G, Miss toddler G and I had a great weekend - and great value at 40k HHpoints and $280. All staff were great and evening lounge staff especially good.

Status: HH Diamond (match from VA Platinum)
Property: Hilton Budapest (Castle)
Rate: Points redemption for 2 nights (35,000 points per night); Points+Cash redemption for 1 night (17,500 points + EUR 45 + 22% local taxes)
Booked: King Deluxe - Danube View
Received: King Executive - Danube View
Miscellaneous: Received a 1.5 L bottle of water, an afternoon pastry selection delivered to the room.

Probably will say these again during my TR, but:
  • This is the only Hilton in the world built on a UNESCO Heritage site.
  • The hotel emailed me in advance of today with two offers, both of which I refused:
    • For EUR 90, I could've secured a Danube River Suite.
    • Private transport to and from BUD airport was offered, at a rate of HUF 11,000 (about EUR 38 or USD 56) from the airport, and HUF 7,200 (about EUR 25 or USD 37) to the airport.
  • Access to my Executive room was quite unusual. The Executive Lounge (the "Clubroom") must be walked through to access my room. The Clubroom seems like a retreat or hall/thoroughfare rather than a separate room.
  • The kettles suck. If you boil more than 300 mL of water, the water seeps through the bottom of the kettle (through God knows how - I can't work it out). Water standing in the kettle without boiling is fine (although it may take longer to notice). Reception will hear from me tomorrow.

That was very much what Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya was like too. I had to admit I liked it that way.

Damn - just saw this. I was in the lounge 6:15 - 6:25 yesterday - I was in the corner on my iPad using FaceTime to say goodnight to boygr.

I was there for breakfast though this morning - late though as I had had 6AM conference calls...

back again in a couple of weeks.

And my final hotel for a little while - at least until October, anyway.

Status: HH Diamond
Property: Hilton Canary Wharf
Dates: 13-17 April 2012
Rate: Various rates, GBP105-165 per night
Booked: Double Guestroom
Received: Junior Suite
Miscellaneous: Welcome cupcake, letter from Lounge Manager, two bottles of water daily. Breakfast option unfortunately only in the Lounge.

I loved this place. On the first day I met Kathleen, who was an Australian working in the lounge at Canary Wharf. She really made the stay.

It was a perfect end to the holiday, too. Loved this hotel - and I will be back, I'm sure!

When I was there in early March, the option to have breakfast in the restuarnt was offered; restaurant opens earlier than lounge, and has more options.

Well, apparently the Hilton Budapest was built during Communist times, so that might explain a bit :)

An update on more miscellaneous things from this hotel:
  • For the first two days, a mini platter of afternoon treats was delivered to the room. Presumably, all Exec Level guests received this (given the generic nature of the greeting card).
  • For my birthday yesterday, I received very good treatment from the already excellent attendants in the Exec Lounge, and a complimentary bottle of sec once in the room.
  • New bottle of water was delivered each day.
  • Breakfast (complimentary) could be taken in the lounge or downstairs in hotel restaurant. Not sure if this is Exec Lounge privilege, Gold/Diamond privilege, or Diamond only privilege.

Castle hill in Budapest was the German strong point in WW2.Everything there was rebuilt in the communist era.Nothing much was left by the time the Germans left the area.

Status: HH Gold
Property: Hilton Garden Inn Krakow
Dates: 16-19 April 2012
Rate: 316 Polish Zloty per night
Booked: King Guestroom
Received: King Guestroom
Miscellaneous: Welcome letter from General Manager, two bottles of water daily (although I had to prompt after day 1). Free Breakfast in the restaurant (my option as a gold was either that or 750 HH points). Was a note on file that we were here on honeymoon and when we arrived into our room a bottle of sparkling wine was waiting as well as some nice cherry liqueur chocolates laid out in a heart shape formation on the bed.

We were hoping for an upgrade to the Junior Suite (the best room type a HGI has) but it wasn't to be unfortunately. Room was a good size anyway so wouldn't have used the extra space!

We were extremely happy with the stay here, the staff were great, the hotel nice and modern and had some nice facilities (gym, business centre (with free PC's, internet, etc), free internet throughout for all guests and even a microwave room for those inclined!!). Will definitely stay here again if needing to. It's about 15-20PL from town by taxi, or a 15 minute walk. Easy.
