How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

2nd hand experience!

Dad is HH Gold (thanks to AFF :)). Stayed at Hilton South Wharf for 5 nights, booked the basic king room on advance purchase, upgrade to executive floor with lounge access :)

He was very happy!

Here is an interesting question

The cheapest room at the Hilton Surfers appears to be an accessible room, this occurs on several dates that I would like to book.... By about $40-$70 it seems

If I book this room, as a Diamond, and leave clear notes saying accessible room NOT needed, I wonder if I would be moved out of it into a standard room... ?

Any thoughts on this one ? and perhaps email/ring a few days before to confirm, as notes are probably only read on check-in ?

That being said I am 99% sure I was "upgraded" into a accessible room a few weeks ago, and apart from the roll-in shower it's much the same and for only 1 night... Who cares ?

There's a part of the booking process after you have selected a room on the Reservation Summary Page that says: "[h=2]About your stay (optional)[/h]
  • The room I wanted was unavailable or I need to specify a room smoking preference
You can use this to specify your preferred room.

This will have a familiar ring to it...

HHonors Diamond (I am a Diamond Guest but have no giraffe requirements)
Hilton on the park Melbourne
Booked: King Hilton Guest
Got: Suite 2001 AGAIN - third time in this exact same suite...

I hope you are actually aiming for Diamond - or is there a tier of which I am unaware?

Yes Simon, in my sleep deprived state I was a little confused when I posted this. We are aimimg for Diamond !!!!

Currently sitting in the Conrad enjoying afternoon tea with a glass of
champagne instead of tea !!!!

Did not get a room upgrade but the hotel is fully booked because of a convention and extemely busy because the Pan Pacific is closed for renovations.

Still extemely satisfed with our stay and the level of service AMAZING !!!!

Hmm. Pan Pac upgrades sound very promising indeed. The hotel was amazing last time we stayed, and the Fairmont immediately afterwards were off their game a bit (which, to be fair, is unusual). I will be interested to see what comes of it.

There's too many options for me in Sin now- Hilton Diamond, so upgrades and lounge with the Conrad, free suite upgrade and lounge access at the Fairmont with FPC and free lounge access and upgrade at the Fullerton. Need to be a bit more picky I guess.

I'm intrigued to see what they've put in your comments - three times you start to wonder if there's a theme developing...

Did they arrange for your helipad, though?

I think it just now defaults to a suite - I have had 5013, 1901 and 2001 (x3) since the new "suites available as upgrade options" came in.

No Helipad so I had to arrange for the sherpas to carry me to the room.

Actually the kibbeh was fantastic last night. Certainly seeing an improvement in the food recently.

I'm wondering if I should dip my toe into HOP rather than HSW. I'm a little nervous since I appreciate HSW much more, but HOP would be a more useful position given that I'm usually at Spring Street during the day when in Melbourne. Your experience is making me think I should try it, simongr!

I think v8statesman (or maybe straitman) or their wives are very against HOP and they much prefer HSW. I am a bit the reverse - HSW is much less convenient for me, is often much more expensive and I found the lounge too big in fact and the people there last time seemed to be treating it as their own private bar (hence noisy).

I am back at HSW in two weeks and will see what it is like

For me HOP food is better than it was with more varied hot selections. I always get a suite now. However in the suites I find the showers kind of pathetic.

It's nice that Melbourne hotels show the upgrades to valued members

However I have now twice got a free bottle of wine as a Diamond in Chinese hotels and not once as a Diamond in Oz. I know that is not a defined benefit/entitlement. It was also not to offset lounge access as I also had lounge access.

Strange the "quirks" that seem to occur

Hilton surfers insist on giving me 4 bottle of beer every time, and always something quite nice! I'd prefer wine but it's better than nothing.

3/3 now this year, but then I put that up against, (Gold) no upgrade, (Diamond) upgrade into an accessible room and exec priv. and (Diamond) no upgrade but exec priv.

Has anyone tried the Beverly Hilton in LA? Got 1 night on a points & pay (20000 & $70 instead of 40000 points or $310) so keen to see what it'll be like :-D I am assuming that HH G means I will get the usual perks despite it being a reward stay.... does points and pay count as an eligible stay for HH purposes?

P&P is treated as an award. They count for Stay/Night credits and you might earn points for incidentals. I don't believe you earn points or any "base points towards status" for the cash component.

Its not clear to me if a P+P reward booking (or straight reward booking for that matter) will be eligible for a room upgrade as you'd normally expect as a Gold with a full revenue booking. Anyone know?

Status benefits generally apply for any award stay as if it were an eligible stay.
