How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I have never had a Yarra Suite at HSW - I feel gypped!!! I am missing out on 17 square metres of extra space!!! Damn you and your 17 square metres!

Only time I've ever received a Yarra was when I paid for it. Ouch, not cheap, but lovely and with great views.

Very cool that we've hit 1000 posts on this thread!

I'm now thinking about the age-old discussion topic that's a favourite on this thread: HSW or HOP? For a stay on 12th July (it's a JQ F lounge run), I'm looking at $236 HSW (after HM disc: $188.80) vs $179 HOP (after HM disc: $143.20). Is my favoured HSW worth the extra $45 or should I try my luck and see if I end up with something as good as simongr does at HOP? Maybe it's time to give HOP a try, given I never have tried it before this.

I've never had a decent upgrade at HOP. I get Exec lounge, which is what I really want I must admit, but I can't spot any differences between the standard rooms be they Deluxe or Exec or whatever.

I always go HSW unless price differentials are ridiculous. Late AUG weekend is $299/n for the cheapest room at HSW, $179 at HOP. HOP wins in this case.

I have had nothing but upgrades when staying at HSW....

Today, booked King Guest Room on Great Getaway rate of $140 ish... Received Yarra Suite, one bottle of wine, bottle of water, bowl of nut mix and welcome back letter from GM. I love staying at this hotel.......

You wouldn't want to share the wine, water and nuts would you? All I got was the welcome back letter from Brett Holy under the door.:)

Have a look at this post (#826) I made on 20th May and the link to a FT thread.

From the experience of many, when HOP is good it is great and when it's bad it is awful :!:

HSW
Great getaway fare ($320 I think) for 2 bed bay view
Received top floor 2 bed city view. Nice.

agreed. HotP can be very hot and cold where as HSW tends to be good or great and i must say , usually great.

Can't wait to see the posts from next weekends' HSP visits - a slew of Diamonds and Golds with upgrades :D

Or maybe they will be unable. The hotel is already advertising no rooms available on the 29th and 30th June. No space-available upgrades, maybe?

October 2011 - Millenium Hilton Bangkok

Booked: King Hilton Deluxe (~฿4,140)
Received: King Hilton Deluxe (hotel, or at least executive floor, was full and at check-in overheard a German couple lose paid upgrade to Executive Floor but given late check-out instead) with executive lounge access
Extras: 2 bottles of water, fruit platter, executive lounge access

This was my first stay as a HH Diamond (courtesy of Virgin Australia) and it is noticeable how staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Executive Lounge is one my favourites with wonderful views of Bangkok. Breathtaking views at night. Canapes and drinks in the evening is quite nice and buffet breakfast in the executive lounge.

October 2011 - Hilton Hua Hin Resort and Spa

Booked: King Hilton Bay View (~฿4,300)
Received: King Hilton Executive Bay View (escorted to check-in at executive lounge) with executive lounge access as a HH Diamond
Extras: 2 bottles of water, fruit platter, executive lounge access (interesting that we went up to executive room for evening drinks and when we returned to room and housekeeping had replenished the 2 bottles of water)

What can one say about this resort. Heavenly? Canapes and drinks in the evening is very nice and the balcony offers sweeping views Hua Hin and mountains to the west mountains all the way up to Cha-Am. Room had views down to Prachuap Kiri Khan.

We had choice of breakfast in the executive lounge or downstairs. What can I say? One get lost with all the choices available. My girlfriend had never experienced anything like it and wanted to try everything and anything. Eggs, bacon, potatoes, fried rice, fried pork, huge variety of bread, cold meats, fruits, congee, sushi, cakes, sweets and on and on. Each one with their own little section. By far the best I have experienced.

January 2012 - Hilton Hua Hin Resort and Spa

Booked: Twin Hilton Bay View (~฿6,200)
Received: Pacific Suite on 6th floor (escorted to check-in at executive lounge) with executive lounge access as a HH Diamond
Extras: 2 bottles of water, fruit platter, executive lounge access

This is truly a remarkable hotel. Heavenly? Canapes and drinks in the evening is very nice and the balcony offers sweeping views Hua Hin and mountains to the west mountains all the way up to Cha-Am. Room had views down to Prachuap Kiri Khan.

When I checked in escorted to executive lounge where I was told room was not ready. Waited for ~1 hour, used the internet and then taken down to 6th floor. What can I say? The room was huge and that was the just the living room. The bedroom had a huge 4 poster bed and the bathroom was also huge. The balcony on the other hand was almost the size of a football field. Wow!

One interesting part about some housekeepers in Thailand is their gift of folding towels so they look like animals. This particular stay had towels folded to look exactly like elephant with baby. Have seen swans at another hotel as well.

January 2012 - Conrad Bangkok

Booked: King Guest Room (~฿4,300)
Received: King Guest Room on executive floor with executive lounge access as a HH Diamond
Extras: 2 bottles of water, executive lounge access

Canapes and drinks in the evening is very nice with some nice views back across to Sukhumvit and Bangkok skyline. Buffet breakfast in executive floor similar offering to Millenium Hilton Bangkok.

Thats a good price for the Conrad JohnK. Which did you prefer? The Conrad or the Hilton? I'm flip-flopping in my decisions between one and the other at the moment ... probably slightly leaning towards the Millennium right now due to a combination of price/view/location

I have soft spot for the Millenium simply for the breaktaking views. The Conrad is not too far behind in terms of service and facilities.

I booked another night at the Millenium Hilton in a couple of weeks and it was ~฿3,400 which is a steal really.

Booked : King Guest
Got : King Executive with Lounge Access, also got note from GM
Where : HSW

Very likely to be posted via iPhone or iPad :)

HSW Yesterday
Booked: King Yarra Suite: $380 Great Getaway Rate
Received: King Yarra Suite and 2 bottles of water, executive lounge access guaranteed already due to room type

Very disappointed with the suite. Hadn't stayed in it before..and just very bland. No letter and nothing else except the 2 bottles of water.

I'm surprised you didn't like the Yarra Suite, I stayed in a Yarra last year and had family in the same hotel, 4 of us all up, and spent more than the average amount of time in the suite with everyone, very nice I thought. However, I think I understand what you mean by bland. Much as I love the HSW, it is all mostly this way and no doubt because its quite new, all straight edges and modern decor. But its clean, the rooms are large (even the small ones), service excellent, etc, so no complaints from me.
