How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

No spread for lunch which was a shame, and the afternoon tea spread was pretty abysmal - but really how can you complain about free stuff!

Don't know about other Hiltons, but for most Exec Lounges I've been to, no lunch spread is pretty standard. Afternoon tea - well that can always vary.

The gazetted Exec Lounge 'meals' are breakfast (minimum continental), afternoon tea (sometimes not on select days) and evening canapes.

Don't think I've been to a Hilton with afternoon tea TBH. Conrads seem to have it, though.

Hilton Diamond
Hilton Kuching
2 rooms 5 nights
Some sort of discount rate
Booked King Exec x 2, given King Exec and King Suite. Free internet, water etc. 2x plate of fresh fruit and chocs in the room.

Hotel very small and looks a little run down but the staff are very nice and do their best. It's rather old but very well priced (~100AUD for king exec room!) and the buffet spread in the main restaurant is actually very good. I've been to many a buffet and this breakfast covers all the main bases but also has a noodle station, roti canai/prata and congee. Their dinner is also decent, they even have a giant paella and a steamboat section.

Kuching and Sarawak need to market themselves to the rest of the world as I've heard a lot about Sabah and KK but nothing about this area. It's really amazing, tonnes of wildlife and stupidly cheap. Restaurant dishes can be had for 1-2 AUD and taxis are cheap too.

I should point out it definitely wasn't advertised anywhere about there being a lunch spread. Would have been nice, although i guess most people are either out of the hotel sight seeing or at the office.

One thing i did note - why do they close the exec lounges? I know there were large portions of the day and later in the evening that the lounge was unstaffed. The conference i was at finished at 9 - 9:30pm each night, would have been nice to stop in for a drink and read of the paper on the way to bed - but the lounge closed at 9pm.

Yep, I'm with you - this is extremely annoying. Whether on business or pleasure, often will return to the hotel after 9pm and it would be lovely to nip into the lounge for an after activity / pre bedtime relax. Unless one has a suite at the hotel its not so comfortable to spend time in your room, particularly if not travelling alone.

My recent stay at the Hilton Budapest (at the castle)... at the Executive Lounge, they didn't close until 11pm, but at around 9.30pm they started taking in all the evening canapes and substantial part of the bar. The only things remaining until close are the fruit plate, the leftover desserts (sometimes), tea and coffee and whatever is available in the fridge (i.e. soft drinks, water, juice and beer).

Good for them. They do a version of this at the HSW as well ... though the lights are usually off :)

I want the comfy chairs and space more than ready availability of drinks, though a few softies in a fridge thats not locked is always nice. Its not so bad I guess in Hiltons that have proper lobby bars, but some don't, SYD Hilton for instance - only has a nightclub.

That's a good idea - i don't expect a full spread and free alcohol etc. But some softdrink and tea/coffee/hot chocolate and some comfy chairs is all i need :)

I really don't see the need to close it period. Access is controlled via room cards, it wouldn't take much to have a reception staff member or anyone really to walk through once every hour or so. Reality is it will probably be empty for most of the night - i suppose at a push they could lock it from say 2am - breakfast, although probably no point for a couple of hours.

The reality is as mentioned before, hotel rooms aren't exactly comfortable for just lounging around. Especially if there's a 3-4 of you.

That's true, but remember 3-4 of you aren't supposed to have lounge access anyway unless at least 2 diamonds are sharing with 2 others...........mind you, my experience is that often a family will be permitted access together with the one diamond (once again, very much appreciated but never expected......I'll see how HSW go later this week!)

HSW is great like that - access pretty well all hours. after a big morning cycling around the streets of Melb, always great to come back to comfy lounge chairs, water, tea, coffee etc

On past trips i have gone with a couple of friends and we've had multiple rooms. So there was 4 of us which was really tight squeezing into the one room.

Just got back from a 4 night stay at the Hilton Queenstown and was really impressed with the treatment of elites.

At check in I was advised that I had been upgraded from to a one bedroom suite overlooking Lake Wakatipu, along with an explanation of the complimentary full breakfast and internet access for Golds.

My first upgrade to a suite at a Hilton and a great stay.

Doubletree Chicago Miracle Mile
3 night stay
Booked: King non smoking (cheapest rate)
Room: King non smoking (no upgrade)
Letter from manager on check-in (Hhonors Diamond), free breakfast and wifi, but no upgrade, no exec lounge (there isn't one), no free water etc.

So ultimately benefits as listed. It is summer so hotel seems fairly busy.

HSW again this week as a Gold HH member. Booked King Hilton Guest Room, was upgraded to King room on Executive floor with full Exec floor benefits.

HSW is a very popular hotel with you lot eh! I live 500 metres walk from it so I am yet to try it but perhaps I should.

Just arrived home. Thanks for the coffee this afternoon.

We'll have to work on HSW to ensure you get a suite on your next visit.

With all these visits to HSW, you'd have to be hitting Diamond soon, wouldn't you, NM?

You are welcome! Great to catch up with you again. Pitty you could not stay for the evening "session"

The lounge is not the same without our favourite lounge manager working tonight :(. Rather than a smile and a warm welcome back, I was asked for my room number when I walked in this evening.

It is conveniently located for my work needs.
