How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Doubletree Santa Monica

Booked: King 1 bedroom suite. Received twin 1 bedroom suite (!)
No water, no letter (HHG), offered breakfast vouchers or bonus points - took the vouchers. Like most US Hiltons, it was continental breakfast only, could upgrade to cooked breakfast for $8. Staff asked me if I wanted coffee, I asked for cappucino - mediocre cappucino arrives, then the bill! In retrospect I should have realised that drip coffee was what they meant, being America, but it would have been nice if they told me the cappucino was extra. It was dreadful and I would have saved my money for a cappucino elsewhere!
Internet complimentary for everyone, apparently.

Location was okay- about3 blocks back from the beach, and 2 blocks from shopping areas in Santa Monica. No idea if there were beach views - my room looked over a school. Is that a "preferred room" to the Hilton??

Embassy Suites Montreal
Booked: King room, Received: King suite (HHG upgrade)
Breakfast and 'Managers reception' included for all guests - managers reception included light snacks (crisps, pretzels, crudites) and I was given vouchers for 2 drinks. Internet free, 2 bottles of water free = although frustratingly these weren't in the room when I arrived, I had to wait for the turn-down service before they appeared.
Location is easy walk from downtown, old montreal, station and shopping areas. Price was about $160 plus tax, which wasn't too bad considering it was the Monday night after Grand Prix weekend.

No, just added it to my things to seethe about ;) Travelling alone so no real problem; was more frustrated by an inability to get late checkout beyond 13.30 when I'd specified it at time of booking. Not to mention almost missing my airport transfer because the concierge failed to handover my message of "I am sitting in the lobby for the next hour or so while I wait for my airport transfer" to his colleagues at the front door... It's fair to say they weren't winning me over on all-round service!

Wow!! Third time at HSW and Bill must have put in a good word.....

- Upgrade to Yarra Suite
- Water
- Welcome card
- Personal welcome back

Thanks be to the HSW Gods - very much appreciated if you're reading this forum :)

Hilton South Wharf / Diamond
Best Available Rate ($249)
Booked King Hilton Guestroom, upgraded to King Executive Room
Received welcome letter from the GM, unfortunately addressed to someone called Rajeev
1 x bottle of water and Exec Lounge access, in-room WiFi

The room had a city view so was more than OK, and I like the Exec lounge, but I can't say I am at all impressed with my stays at the HSW. I did hand the welcome letter back when checking out and casually said "I think your guys may have got the wrong room." The response was "Thanks for letting us know!" So my view of the "personal" welcome letter from the manager is that it is worthless even when they do get it right.

I find the "welcome back spiel" at check in to be similar to the QF CSM WP greeting and excruciatingly robotic as the check in person goes through the various details on screen. I also liken it to the conversations I have to endure at Coles or Woolworths with the 12 year old on check out: "Have you got much planned today?". I know this is all dependent upon the quality and experience of the staff at reception so it can be hit and miss.

I'm not a regular at HSW and I know a lot of AFF'rs have very good experiences there, but for me it is a touch ordinary. :-| (Nice rooms though!)

@TonyHancock. I have had a pretty ordinary run with Gold/ Diamond perks at HSW.
I had a little whinge about it on FT and received an email follow up from the GM
Haven't been back yet but I will be interested to see if anything changes

Great to meet dfcatch for pre dinner drinks and TonyHancock (who is much less dead in person) for breakfast at HSW this week :)

Damn you and your welcome card! Also a Yarra suite is a step up I think from the relaxation suite I got.

Was it the pretty petite brunette? She almost cheered when I checked in when she heard my name - and she wasn't the one checking me in!

So I booked King Hilton Guest and got a relaxation suite and two bottles of water but NO welcome note not even one addressed ranjit!

Was it the pretty petite brunette?

Yes it most certainly was!

As for the welcome note it was delivered to my room at about 17:30 by a young chap who knocked on the door and called out room service. Oddest sort of room service I've seen!!

Mine was the same - just slipped under the door though. I was in the shower so might to have heard the call. Was correctly addressed.

Maybe they were flustered at so many DYKWIAs arriving in short space ;)

I'm thinking that with the DJ Velocity status matches/grants the number of antipodean guests with HHonors status has dramatically increased.

Checked in to HSW a while ago for 3 nights. The Yarra Suite of my first stay last time is no more.:( I have a lovely view of the side of the ANL building and a glimpse of the West Gate bridge approach. Without asking I was told that there was no upgrade as the hotel is full over the weekend. A little disappointing as I had been upgraded to a Yarra Suite when I checked the website before I left home this morning. So a sort of downgrade! Oh, well the room is comfortable and I am sure the Lounge will be fine. And there is always the free mini-bar. Oops, wrong chain!

Edit: doing a dummy booking problem with suites/executive rooms is Saturday night.

Staying at the HSW on Sunday and Monday hope I get some gold lovin!!

Very likely to be posted via iPhone or iPad :)

I have had nothing but upgrades when staying at HSW....

Today, booked King Guest Room on Great Getaway rate of $140 ish... Received Yarra Suite, one bottle of wine, bottle of water, bowl of nut mix and welcome back letter from GM. I love staying at this hotel.......

I have never had a Yarra Suite at HSW - I feel gypped!!! I am missing out on 17 square metres of extra space!!! Damn you and your 17 square metres!

IIRC, there's two main types of "suite" there.

The "Relaxation"has the bed facing East up the river.

The "Yarra" has a living room with a "pointy" corner, mainly facing North.

This was my first suite upgrade ever, not just at HSW.

But where's my bottle of wine??

Luckily there's the exec lounge ;)
