How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Status: Gold
Property: Hilton On The Park Melbourne
Booked: King Hilton Guest Room
Upgrade: King Hilton Executive Room
Received: Upgrade to executive floor, lounge access, free internet, free breakfast, note of GM.

Happy as it is my first stay in this hotel, a few more nights over the next few months should get me to Diamond before the end of the year.

Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City
Booked: King Guest Room
Received: Executive King

Given there is no executive lounge here I am not sure what difference is for an Executive room apart from being on a higher floor. Received two vouchers for continental breakfast, two vouchers for free appetiser and non alcoholic beverage, three bottles of water and a goodie plate containing nuts, chocolate dipped glazed fruit, a peach, chocolate and a cookie.

Booked: King Business Room (Great Getaway Rate)

Received: Upgrade to executive floor, lounge access, free breakfast, fruit platter daily, 15% discount on any F+B.

Got the 1-category upgrade I speculated on when booking the business room. Service in the lounge (and anywhere else in the hotel btw) was perfect. Lounge layout is a bit weird, it obviously wasn't built as a lounge in the first place, so is a combination of what was supposed to me a number of hotel rooms and suites. But I didn't mind it.

Sadly missed simongr here - a pity!

For me, however, it was a great stay. Upgraded to Relaxation Suite (was originally upgraded to Executive Room the day before in my booking, but changed to Relaxation Suite on the day of arrival), absolutely wonderful service in the Lounge from people that recognised us and remembered details of our past travels and asked us about them. Ended up bending the ear of Linzi who is from South Africa about where to go on a trip we're planning in March.. Partner was outside and a staff member recognised him and asked him if he would like a dirty martini (his preferred drink at Nuevo37) without asking. When the coffee machine in the room failed and needed repriming, the hotel management arranged for an engineer to come up and sort it out but without prompting offered any number of complimentary coffees made to order to be sent up to allow us to entertain friends that had arrived.

Hilton Sydney is still my favourite in Australia at the moment, but I was reminded of why I really love staying at HSW.

Just another data point - I met an American couple in the Lounge who were also Diamond and they were enjoying the hotel, although they had only been upgraded to an Executive Room. Although they were staying from Tuesday through Saturday and so probably staying through some of the busier parts of the week, when it's harder to offer upgrades. The longer you stay, the less likely an upgrade, it seems.

Hotel: Hilton Sydney
Room Booked: Hilton Deluxe Room King
Room Rate Booked: American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card Free Night (Wholesale rate from AOT Holidays)
Room Received: Hilton Deluxe Room Queen @ Executive Level
Other Benefits Received: Early check-in at 11:30am, Access to Exec Lounge, Free full buffet breakfast at Glass Brasserie, late checkout at 1pm, free internet.

Given that I didn't pay for this room, and it was a free night offer from Amex, I wasn't sure whether I get any benefits. But to their credit, they did upgrade me to Exec level with access to the lounge as well as free buffet breakfast. I was very impressed. Having said that I think the canapes can be improved (I like Hilton Adelaide canapes) even though there is some variety on food and drink. We stayed there on Sat night and the lounge is packed during canapes hours.

Very impressed with Glass Brasserie for both dinner and breakfast, great service, fantastic atmosphere and top food.

The only thing is that the room is small, but I am not too fussed about it due to all the upgrades I got.

I have very limited hotel exec lounge experience (maybe six or seven, including Hiltons SP, SW and ADL) and the Conrad lounge in SIN is significantly superior to all of them IMHO, mainly because of the service and the food/bev quality and availability (hours of opening included). There are a couple of odd little 'anterooms' but as you say, it is pretty good.

Here's hoping the upgrade sticks ;)

I notice that the Sydney EL has shut, or is about to shut, for renovations in September/October. Anyone have any idea yet of the alternative arrangements?

Well I certainly hope there are some alternate arrangements in place! First stay at SYD coming up early October.

Edit: Guess I'll find out at the time, or sooner if someone has an earlier stay (I guess this is what you were referring to turtlemichael?)

Please note:

As we strive to further enhance our guests’ experience, the hotel will be refurbishing the executive lounge in September and October 2012. During this time, access to the hotel's executive lounge will be closed however guests will still enjoy executive benefits in an alternate location, which will be informed at check in.

Make sure you check the connections on the TV - I pulled them out last night to hook up the iPad...

I asked about this Wednesday night.
They said the following:

Breakfast in Glass.
Vouchers for the lobby cafe for afternoon tea.
Evening drinks on level 1 (I didn't probe, but I presume one of the function rooms)

This sounds quite reasonable. A number of US properties I've been to have just said "The Executive Lounge is Closed for Renovation" and other than offering continental breakfast in the restaurant, they've left it at that.
