There was a minor problem with housekeeping which was satisfactorily resolved with the duty manager.

Caught up with froggerADL on Sunday night and we shared stories and a few drinks until closing time in the lounge. I enjoyed several cold diet cokes.

I've been very happy with HH. As a Diamond, I always book the cheapest room and have had 15 upgrades to the best room from 15 stays, plus EL access.

Rate: Government, INR 9,056.5/night including taxes
Received: King Suite, welcome letter signed by a manager, welcome card signed by GM, chocolates and bowl of fruit in room (replenished daily), 5 bottles of water (replenished daily), breakfast in the Executive Lounge.

This is a fairly nice hotel although some distance from the city centre (about 12 stops on the metro with a station just outside). They have a happy hour in the bar on the ground floor with canapés and complimentary beer, wine and possibly spirits (we were ordering coughtails and thought we'd have to pay but nothing has appeared on the folio). Really friendly staff who were eager to make sure our stay was perfect.

Booked: King Spa Room
Date: 22 September
Rate: $229
Received: King Executive Room, two bottles of water, chocolates, personalised welcome card from GM, Executive Lounge Access, breakfast in Executive Lounge

This has been my second stay at Hilton Cairns, but my first stay anywhere as an HH member. The exec lounge is cosy, but had an excellent selection of canapés on Saturday evening. Breakfast was very good as well.

My room was very nice, overlooking Trinity Inlet. I'm not sure whether I prefer the spa rooms with spa bath and glass wall over the Executive Rooms.

Hotel: Hilton Sydney
Booked: King Guest Room
Rate: AAA $208.00
Received: King Relaxation suite. 2 water, cheese plate, an apple and a bottle of red wine, packet of choc macadamias.

Excellent upgrade. Room is top notch. The executive lounge is closed for renovations and the substitute was an area on the first floor. Food and drinks much the same and area more spacious than the club. Excellent dinner in Glass (liquorice parfait is amazing). However, service in Glass was a bit sub-par. All up, great start to a long trip.

never seem to get these good upgrades........just to exec level floor ;-(

We had planned to have dinner in the bar but found the music too loud for comfort, almost Abercrombie store loud. Staff in the bar were unhelpful but after raising the issue with the hotel duty manager she apologised profusely and comped 2 room service appetizers.

I'm about to have my first stay as a Hilton Gold is there anyway to see if I received an upgrade before checking in?

Try Echecking, you get to select your
room and if there's an upgrade option, it's shown. You can always cancel out of the Echeck.
