How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Newly minted gold (Virgin status match) and just exploring the hotel side of things. I'd easily spend 20 or so nights a year in hotels but have never concentrated on one chain. Have this status match to explore and an SPG one via one of the cards when I activate it.

Hilton Brisbane
Booked King room, two nights at $259
Upgraded to King Executive with lounge access
Although the lounge was a bit small the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and the drinks and canapes were greatly appreciated
Breakfast was great..think J lounge, maybe a bit better.

Loved the warm pool
Very comfortable bed with functional room. Not that we spent long in it

A more than satisfactory stay and I would go there again

Well I have my first stay coming up at the Canary Wharf Hilton 19-22/10/12. This will be first stay as status matched Gold. Have a lot of stays in November across the group. Will be very interesting to see how I go re upgrades, breakfast and Internet access.

So far I've got way more bookings with the Hilton group than Virgin so the matching seems to have worked for them more than Virgin.

Hilton South Wharf
Oct 12-14
Booked: King Guest Room
Received:King Yarra Suite

Got two bottles of water first night only. No welcome card from GM or any goodies. No turn down service either. They did however replace the broken expresso machine with a functioning one pretty quickly.

Coyote25 pay the 9 pound offer for upgrade to the Club section at Hilton Canary Wharf. We ate so much we did not do dinner and the free drinks are self serve.
The lounge has a lovely view as it is on the 14th floor if my memory is ok. It is a winner!

I think I'll be pretty much the same. Every time I think Virgin Qantas does something like double SC offer to keep me on track....sorry a bit off thread

Hmm. so it wasn't just a one-off for me then? I had the same experience. I had to ask for water, and they happily supplied. No GM note which was a first as I always got one previously at this property and they appear to have completely forgotten what a turn-down is .. even when I asked for it specifically, at the front desk, it never happened ... they just turned on the lights in the room.

I wonder whats going on there? Has Brett Christ (GM) moved on?

Thanks cove I didn't even know this was an option!

Coyote25 I would call them direct and arrange the upgrade. We did it twice in the last two years so I hope it is still on.
There were 3 computers there and we got breakfast, lots of nibbles and quite a long drinks session and lots of tasters in the evening in the Club lounge.
One time Flashware dropped in or was that twice??
Then kpc comped us in as well.
We really liked Carluccios which is a walk over the adjacent footbridge then thru a building and into the open square in Canary Wharf. It is an Italian cafe.

I would have loved to stay at Canary Wharf again, but regrettably the price on the week I'm there is in the range of GBP250/night, so it's off to try out the new Hilton London Wembley hotel. Great reviews on Tripadvisor so far! Has anyone stayed in it yet?

Shrek stayed at Hilton Sydney last night booked standard twin, received standard twin. Breakfast in Glass, exec Lounge benefits etc. 2 bottles water in room.
FWIW he is a VA Diamond on his 4th Hilton stay since activating the Diamond bennie.

I'm guessing they don't have much flexibility for a twin room upgrade (maybe a higher floor at best)? Did they know it was just him (I'm assuming it was just him)?

Nope I got a hand written note from him last week when upgraded to a Yarra Suite.

I actually think that the notes are put out earlier in the day and then check in people mess with the room allocations as people check and move rooms or have special needs or whatever and the note doesn't get moved. I think that is what happened when I got someone's bubbles (60th birthday gift) and the staff came to my room to ask for the hand written card which had been left in my room (I think they got moved to my Yarra Suite from the relaxation suite and stole my extra 17m2).

I think you are right, may have been what contributed to the lack of upgrade. He did have one of the kids with him, so I'm thinking there's not a lot to upgrade to. No biggie he did enjoy the stay in his "non- catswinging room" lol :D

Spoke to Claire, the Lounge Manager leaving in early Nov. :( :( She's moving to CUB. Was introduced to Jenny, who was working this morning. Still have Justin, Amber, Nitten and Emriye (pronounced Emree). Claire advised that an external search is bring done for EL Mgr position. She is also interviewing for Linzi's replacement (who has moved to Team Leader of Front Desk).

Did mention the lack of water and card to Claire on check-out at breakfast. She noted on file. Elsa at reception downstairs advised that they don't do cards for Brett Christ every day...???

Great welcome from Hanna, who was surprised I knew about the Exec Floor upgrade. Received 1x01 room - can't ever remember getting it before. View from business desk is of grey brick building in the foreground and suburbia. Two bottles of Mount Franklin water. Card from GM pushed under my door - got it on my return at night. Access to Exec Lounge on 18th floor for canapés and a nightcap. Chocolates on pillow at turndown.

Had to move to HoTP as HSW wanted $530 BAR when I booked on Saturday. The Front Desk Manager said they were at 101% as I checked out this morning (Telstra AGM at the Convention Centre was cited as reason).

After making a booking, when does the upgrade normally appears with your booking ?

As in, when can you see the upgraded room type that you should get on check-in

I used to check the website (once signed in) via my laptop, but the App is much quicker.

I have found that if I check the App the day before it is generally showing. However, in a previous booking at HSW, I have seen it showing me in a King Yarra Suite (from base King booked), but later had changed back to Exec King (and I got that at check-in).

Can't see the full booking now of my current stay, but it shows:

NEXT STAY
Date: 16 Oct 2012 - 17 Oct 2012
Description:
Hilton On The Park Melbourne hotel
View/Edit
Request Upon Arrival

Tapping on the "view/edit" will show the current room type allocated.

Brett Christ (GM of Hilton South Wharf), this is how you engender loyalty in your Guests:

It's not difficult and to the right people, a lovely touch. As the Sheraton catch phrase used to be "little things mean a lot"

I'll second Lindsay's post. I got a something-or-other-suite (their best) showing at Hilton Perth on the app late the night before checkin, had dropped a level the next morning. There must be some shuffling which doesn't settle down till a certain time.

I agree with you.

I wonder whats happened at HSW. I have stayed there more times than I can easily remember now, and used to get a card every single time since making Gold, but not any more....
