How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Brett Christ (GM of Hilton South Wharf), this is how you engender loyalty in your Guests:

This is nothing against you Lindsay, but I sometimes wonder if as a result of all of these benefits that Hilton gives me, whether I am at risk of becoming spoilt by it, and start to expect it when it's not given. I really really appreciate the little touches like the personally signed note from the GM, and I do notice it when it doesn't arrive, but I'm trying very hard not to act as though it should be expected. The casual visitors to the hotel would never expect this sort of touch - so why should I demand it?

The benefits of the Hilton HHonors program guarantee things like Executive Lounge access, extra points, breakfast, space available upgrades. They don't guarantee me a personalised letter from the GM. I don't think my stay was made or broken by the presence or absence of a note from the GM, and at the same time, I really do appreciate them when they arrive!

beardoc, we think the same!!

Remember that the property specific benefits are decided on by the Management:

* Upgrades given by the property based on the enterprise value of the guest (beyond the HH status requirements), or

* cards by the GM or another Management team member, to the guest

* personalised gifts (bottle of wine, kava bowl, whatever they may decide)

Like you, I don't expect them but are surprised when a property that I stay at regularly doesn't deliver. That in isolation will not make me change my decision to stay at the property again. Rather I will bring it to their attention in case it is an oversight (as it appears the HSW experience was yesterday).

Little things are nice but my determining factors for staying at a property are more the big items (service delivery and recovery, if applicable).

Booked:
King Hilton Deluxe
Upgraded:
Originally to a King Suite, and because that wasn't available until 4:30pm, they upgraded me to a King Relaxation Suite again!
Received:
Two bottles of water, temporary executive lounge benefits, breakfast in Glass Brasserie, Wi-Fi for four devices, Bottle of wine with a cheese and fruit platter delivered to room, personalised note from GM, LivingWell gym access (BodyCombat classes!) and all round excellent service. Also, late checkout to midday without issue when I requested (I didn't ask for later than midday), vouchers for free afternoon tea at Cafe Cino (in leiu of afternoon tea in Exec Lounge), which I'm going to go and use tomorrow with a friend.

Another fantastic stay. The temporary executive lounge is fine, and still has the lovely personal service. I'll be looking forward to seeing the new expanded Executive Lounge which is supposed to be opening again next month! Still my favourite Hilton in Australia.

Upgraded to:

Received:
Two bottles of water daily, executive lounge access, choice of breakfast in the restaurant or in the lounge, Wi-Fi for multiple devices, one hell of a welcome gift (as pictured) and three welcome notes - a card from one manager (pictured), a letter from another (explaining the benefits on offer - pictured), and another one from one of the staff saying that they hope I enjoy the sweets and a direct contact number if I require anything during the stay (not pictured). This was in addition to the small welcome tent card sitting on the tray (pictured). The was also an offer of a free pressing service (one garment per day).

On making the reservation, the email confirmation had the hotel's address written in Chinese characters (for the taxi driver from the airport). Also, the GM emailed me a few days before my arrival to give me an early welcome, inform me that my upgrade had already been approved, and to offer assistance with booking airport transfers if needed. They also sent through the hotel's Chinese address again, this time on taxi cards that I could print and cut out (I decided not to bother as I already had the Chinese address from the first email, but I'm sure that this would help others who may not have remembered to bring that address with them).

During our stay, we dined at Chynna (hotel restaurant). Absolutely fantastic value - for only ~$120AUD total, my partner and I ordered the Peking Duck (half bird), rice, dumplings, chicken and pork dishes (shared), as well as a delicious bottle of French Sauv Blanc (I originally remembered the name, but was a little too tipsy at the end to remember it haha).

By far my best stay to date at any Hilton property!

One large bottle of water, executive lounge access, choice of breakfast in the restaurant or in the lounge, Wi-Fi for multiple devices, and a small box of Lindt chocolates. It seems that about a month ago, this property has now started charging $10 to Gold/Diamond to eat breakfast in the restaurant instead of the lounge... I'll have to compare the two when I next next stay there!

Okay my first ever booking at Hilton since I got a matched Gold Status via Virgin at Hilton London Canary Wharf tomorrow. I tried online checkin (which failed) but the booking shows KING HILTON EXECUTIVE, original booked DOUBLE HILTON GUESTROOM AT 78.48 GBP on 40% discount rate. I'm guessing this is looking good for an upgrade based on what I can see.

To think of all the stays I made at Hilton before getting this status match.

That's a great rate for London and a Hilton at that! I just booked a Hampton Inn up in Liverpool for Monday next week, will be interesting as I've not stayed at that brand yet.

Helps I booked a hotel in business district for a weekend and Di far in advance. I reasoned better chance of upgrade plus nearby tube gets you everywhere.

Coyote25 if Flashware is in town try to get him over to the exec lounge as it works really well.

Didn't even know I could get a guest in. Shows how much I know. I wonder what else I will miss out on because I don't know.

Hilton Canary wharf does have some pretty fantastic rates at times. I find it a very satisfactory hotel

We had 2 nights there in May for GBP 66 per night and got upgraded to a Junior Suite. Very nice. Weekends are usually the cheapest.

Yes - it's a pity that the week I am there it's over GBP200 per night (plus taxes). I've found Canary Wharf can be very variable with price.

I agree with you.

I wonder whats happened at HSW. I have stayed there more times than I can easily remember now, and used to get a card every single time since making Gold, but not any more....

Same with me. This is the first visit I have ever had at HSW that I didn't get a note (or the goodies).

Stayed last week, No card, no turndown.

Also, every time I quick checkout (ie 15 times this year) they put the mini bar through as a separate transaction (even though I wrote it on the mini bar section on the envelope) This a) lowers the amount of points I earn and b) results in lower expense claim and higher personal expense.
