How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Second time in a week at Hilton Sydney (booked Std king)

No upgrade again, just lounge access and breakfast in lounge.

Exactly the same for myself & MrsF last night....
Even asking at the reception desk got a very straightforward "we are very booked tonight".
I logged onto hilton & could see suites of all types for sale.
I guess, despite multiple visits as a Diamond, we are never gonna get a upgrade here to a suite unless we go the Nor1 route.
I had thought with Michael Bourne being manager here, that things would follow the HSW style, but alas it is not to be.

Hmm back in ADL, checked in this morning but obviously didn't go to the room, got here this evening and the upgrade is to exec floor - no suite upgrade... Wasn't expecting the presidential suite again but...

I knew I should have asked at either check in or during key collection... Called when I got to the room and enquirer so just waiting to hear if a suite upgrade is available...

If I don't get a call in the next minute or so then this is the room I will be in...

Two bottles of water and no welcome card.

My experience of Adelaide was poor until I fired of an email to the Adelaide Hilton email address. Then I was upgraded to a Suite.

Last time I was here with colleagues there were no charges - today they are ruthlessly charging for guests. Family of four just got pinged even though they had called ahead to check...

The more I reflect on this stay the more disappointing it was - no shower gel in the bathroom, no ironing board, ordered a glass of wine from room service - I ordered cabernet sauvignon and they delivered sauvignon blanc...

Got to say the breakfast downstairs was awesome, best I have had for a long time! Internet was absolute rubbish but note in room saying they were changing provider, so would suggest thats a temporary problem.

I was not expecting any miracles in regard to upgrades though was not overly impressed with the room size & decor.
The reception staff mentioned something about having some amenities sent to the room & after a visit to the lounge returned to find a lovely bottle of wine & a welcome card from GM.
Was offered an option of breakfast in the lounge or at the restaurant for an extra +$10 per person. - It seemed strange
The Executive lounge staff is reasonable with Mark & Rubi? as diligent hosts.
Enjoyed the limited offerings in lounge for an early & quick breakfast with an obstructed view of river.
As an Australian Major City hotel rating: 7/10.

We have stayed in a Yarra Suite before but this one has a kitchenette with cutlery, crockery, half drawer dishwasher, microwave and also a washer/dryer which would be really handy on a longer stay.

2 x bottles of water & for the first time I noticed the free internet is for 2 devices.

A "welcome back" upon check in...

For those that are getting regular upgrades to suites do your stays tend to be short? The couple of times I have been upgraded have been one nighters - I get the impression that the properties don't want to give up the expensive suites for week long stays.

aha, you know what, I reckon you might be onto something here. My recent stays have been at least a week, up to 2 weeks ... and the upgrades have been slow and grudging. The hotel is probably happy enough to 'sell' the suite to an elite (I assume they are compensated in some small way by HH) rather than leave it empty for the night, but, you are probably right, 2-3-4 days out or more, if they have a chance of still selling it, then the return is obviously far higher.

I suspect this doesn't just apply to suites. As a gold, I'm ok that I don't get suites, Diamonds have to have something to show for their efforts/loyalty, but I even struggle these days to get an exec room upgrade, but again, whats the chances that the hotels don't like giving away a 'free' exec upgrade for 2 weeks?

Early check-in approved (12noon) and upgrade to a top floor executive room confirmed which was surprising as you couldn't purchase an executive room online for the dates. Bottle of water (which was replaced on the first night) and a bottle of Red wine (Bay of Stones Merlot) and a note from the GM were left when housekeeping arrived.

Executive lounge closed for renovations which they put a ladder in the entry way to remind us! Breakfast and canapes downstairs, breakfast very good. Evening drinks/canapes rubbish. Two drinks in 90minutes and one round of a selection of canapes, quite underwhelming. Staffing here in both the bar and restaurant sloppy and lazy.

You did well with the bottle of wine, stayed on 22/12 in 2508 and was not so lucky. The Executive rooms are pulled from sale due to the lounge closure.
