Date: 22 Dec 2012
Rate: $180 - advance purchase
Booked: King Hilton Guest Room
Received: King Yarra Suite
Miscellaneous: 2 bottles of water, exec access, breakfast in lounge or restaurant (I took restaurant, as on my previous stays I'd only ever tried the lounge).

I initially took late checkout to 1300, but ended up checking out around 10am instead. I was profusely thanked when doing this as they "had a lot of diamonds wanting late check-out" and they needed some rooms back :). I was however given a card for access to the exec lounge for the remainder of the day, which was all I wanted and allowed a quick refreshment prior to heading to the airport with BlueAU, anat0l and jdevereux3.

I was also informed that all but two of their suites went to Diamonds that night.

Property: Hampton by Hilton Croydon
Date: 26 Dec 2012
Rate: 55 GBP
Booked: Double Room
Received: Double Room
Miscellaneous: Received a bottle of water and snack (Mars Bar) as per the My Way option. Nice modern hotel, very clean and modern. Breakfast was decent for what it was. A good option if needing to stay in the area.

I thought of Croydon for my last stay in London but wasn't sure about getting back into London if I did - how did you find the area?

Property: Hilton Surfers Paradise
Date: 3-5 November 2012
Rate: $188 - Gov't Rate, 2 adults
Booked: 1 B/room residence
Received: 2 B/room residence

They got right: Birthday gift consisting of a bottle of bubbly, 4 chocolates and a birthday card. Breakfast was offered (and taken) in the restaurant each day. HSP excelled with a booking modification. Originally booked Fri night @ $188. Decided later to add Sat night to booking. Rate kept @ $188 for both nights despite Sat showing considerably dearer rates at the time. Booking changed again (my daughter is a female after all ) to Sat and Sun nights, both of which showed considerably dearer rates on-line, yet rate retained @ $188/night. Excellent diamond recognition with that unexpected and very much appreciated gesture.

They got wrong: Nothing of notice.

Summary: This stay was booked for my daughters 19th birthday and HSP certainly made the day special for her and her friends by way of the birthday gift and the room upgrade from a 1 b/room to a 2 b/room. I didn't stay so I can't comment on delivery/non delivery of benefits but my daughter did say she enjoyed breakfast in Salt (she says she enjoys the Salt buffet breakfast more than the Marriott) and she did get the morning paper.

Recommend: Based on this stay........yes.

Booked: Single Guestroom
Received: Twin Exec Room
Miscellaneous: Upgrade appeared on HH account several days before check-in. Received 2 bottle of water, robes, slippers. Small Exec lounge, but offers afternoon tea service as well as evening capapes, which are fairly unhealthy fried samosas and spring rolls etc. Free pour basic spirits. Lounge closed for Christmas break in morning, so full breakfast downstairs (always available to golds and diamonds without asking in my experience at this property).

Got exec lounge access but that is it. No note, tiny toiletries, room on low floor - any lower and we wouldn't be able to see over the roof of the exhibition centre. Worst room I have ever received at this hotel

Received an email this week advising me that due to high demand there would be no upgrade available for New Years Eve at HSW........and that in itself was fine......however the email went on to describe, as if doing me a favour, the standard benefits I would receive. It made me feel like the benefits I am entitled to through status, are a bonus and something I should be grateful for on this stay.

Property: Hilton South Wharf

Rate: $186.75 - Great Getaway rate, 1A + 1C + "Spouse stays free"
Booked: Queen family room
Received: 2 B/room unit, high floor, city view.

They got right: Almost everything including morning paper, turn down service, nice selection in the lounge, breakfast offered (and taken) in the restaurant but best of all.....a fabulous upgrade to a lovely unit on the 18th floor.

They got wrong: No complementary water, no welcome card, movie deal didn't work (most likely my fault), rung to sort out but was then billed for movie deal + each individual movie. Individual movie charges removed promptly from account when queried.

Summary: A great stay at HSW and apart from a few very minor issues, everything was great. The breakfasts in Nuevo 37 were superb, all staff brilliant (including front desk) and was all topped off with some excellent company complements of a collective of flying nuts from some internet forum!

Recommend: Definitely.

Not feeling the love at HSW anymore... Booked twin guest room, received twin guest room on 8 th floor. No note, no water and in fact no conditioner. I must have fallen out of favour.....

Booked: King Guestroom
Received : Relaxation Suite (8th Floor) , 4 bottles comp water ... no note or other.

Aircon was either not coping with 40° day or was faulty so after advising of issue we were eventually moved to 19th Floor 2 B/Room East facing Facility.

Exec lounge temporarily relocated to Ground Floor area due to "An 18th Birthday" function on 4th floor (nice little b'day present outside of pink and Yellow mini cooper FWIW)

It can be hit and miss, just complete 8 stays at the Hilton in BNE and the variance in executive lounge food was amazing (in the bar), however the room was always upgraded to an executive king on floors 23-25. Worst stay was a few nights ago when we had 2520, which is on the far north corner, my preference is for rooms away from lifts, sadly the 10 and 20 rooms at BNE are very close to the service lifts which get a lot of traffic and noisy door closes.

In the room there was nothing extra as far as water or a note.

If there's no water, just do what I do. Take it from the mini bar and then get it comped at check out.

I always have a bottle of water at night time, even before I had it as a benefit.

Can this be done at HH Gold?

We received a large water each stay (2 so far). No cards, but I'm currently on my way there again now so I'll see how this one goes. It was nice to catch up again, makes me wonder when we start bumping into friends in hotels......too many stays perhaps, or was there another reason ;).....

I think the water is part of the executive offering, hope you get the food offering we had last night, (and no kids doing the finger taste test to be seen, like it was earlier in the week after you left). Good to catch up, think the IC will be my home on the coast thanks to your feedback re the Hilton!
