How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Had a good chat with HSW's GM today and have voiced our appreciation to him regarding the generous upgrades and also indicated we would most likely have the Christmas pre dinner gathering there. He was delighted with the feedback and look forward to meet us all. Not sure if he is aware what crazy bunch we can be as all he's seen so far is my professional side.
I've never met the GM at HSW. Good to know he exists.

One word: WOW.

Just checked into H CNS, never seen front desk staff actually excited to have a diamond guest... GM was called down to greet me (Never had that before) and given his personal contact info.
Even if this isn't the newest hotel, and the rooms not the most flash (nice though) I can already tell this will be a great stay.

Room Booked: King Guestroom
room received: King Spa Room with waterfront view.

Intrigued to to see the lounge tonight, back for another stay here on Sunday so will report back on other details then.
The Cairns GM (John Lucas) is pretty good value and has been very helpful to us in the past. He is very aware of AFF and was also one of the guest speakers at the AFF gathering in Cairns last year. Please say hello to him for me next Sunday if he's around.

You've done well. Stayed there several times as a diamond and never had the front desk fuss over me..CNS always good with upgrades. Lounge is tiny but well managed

I almost feel guilty now, after talking the place up to you!

The lounge last night was more packed than I have ever seen it! It was bedlam and the two staff (both new) were not keeping up. The food ran out (I arrived at 6.20 and the hot stuff was gone) and it took a half hour for me to get a single sparkling water! I finished that and departed. There was also no gift or card in room which I think would be only the second time ever that has happened, so I sincerely hope everyone has gone tonight from the lounge (I have at least). I think Gemma mentioned to me she would be on holiday, but I can't recall just when that was, so with a bit of luck she'll be on tonight, because you just haven't experienced Hilton CNS until you've met Gemma!

Any suggestions for Vegas Hiltons? First time there in January so not sure if it's worth staying with Hilton (Gold) or just going with another chain?

Agreed - I've been upgraded both times I've stayed there as a HH Diamond (even when one of the bookings was through a 3rd party - Agoda?). The staff in the Exec Lounge were excellent.

Location: Hilton Union Square (San Francisco)
Status: Diamond when booked, Gold during stay
Room booked: Urban Contemporary
Room received: Urban Contemporary

Greeted in the pre-arrival e-mail as a Diamond member (which I used to have via the VA WP benefit), although my status is currently Gold (via a VISA status accelerator offer). Received two complementary bottles of water. No room upgrade but I was checking in at 10-ish in the morning after flying through from SYD via LAX, so I was deliriously happy just to be able to access my room immediately ;)

Not clearly advertised, but they charge US$10 per item to receive and hold post for you (very poor, particularly for HH status-holders). The front desk staff couldn't have cared less when I complained about the charge during check-out. I'll be following up on it when I have a chance. Note that they also tried further daylight robbery of $10 per item via the concierge when I tried to collect the parcels after 5 pm........

Check-in and check-out can be chaotic, with very long queues; one for Joe Public and one for HHonors members (no separate desks or priority lane for HH Gold or Diamond). I waited about 20 minutes on check-out. The immediate area is very dodgy as it's actually a couple of blocks from Union Square (the area outside the hotel was also filthy).

Won't be staying there in future.......

Not a good review. Do let them know.

I have had items (mail) held for me at other properties before with no fuss whatsoever, so that is disappointing.

The relaxation suite is definitely a much nicer room than the relaxation room.

Although both are very nice and decent rooms.

The relaxation suite is my preferred room.

Like a comment above - I don't care for the junior suite too much.

Re Sydney Hilton - There is one 'Relaxation Room' directly under the EL, so in addition to the constant lift noise there is very early and very late prep noise. Probably should be renamed the Stressey Room. Mr GoneTroppo is doing some SydH runs at the moment after giving it a long break after some underwhelming experiences. Reports back it seems to have improved as an option for his Sydney work. In fact, LittlestTroppo joined him this week - well-deserved break in the uni holidays - and they arranged a Junior Suite with a rollaway. He doesn't ask for upgrades anywhere as his stays are usually 4/5 nights and he doesn't mind just for himself, but when it counted he asked and they came through - very happy! He is excited for the new Hyatt Regency in Syd tho.

I'll try to e-mail them tomorrow. Had to count slowly to ten in my head before replying when the concierge told me it would be an extra $10 per item for them to fetch it from downstairs because it was after 5 p.m.!

I sent an e-mail to the Hilton US-SF last night. They have already responded with an apology and a refund of the $40 in charges; I'm very pleased with both the rapidity of the reply (from Rodolfo) and the immediate refund.

They also advised that the details of the charge of $10 per item are being added to their website...... Slightly misses the point that they're the only hotel I've ever stayed in where I've been charged for them to hold parcels, but at least if the charges are front and centre on their web-page, it's hard to complain about them.......

Good and rapid outcome. Congrats!

Was the charge only because it was out of hours that you wanted to collect, or was it going to be levied in any case?

$10 per item just for it being sent to the hotel, and then a further charge for collecting each item "out of hours" (i.e. not between 7 am and 5 pm)

For comparison, I'm currently staying in the Hilton LAX and have just picked up a parcel at no charge, so I'm not sure why Hilton Union Square think it's appropriate or acceptable to levy a fee?

I had 2 x stays at the Hilton LAX in May and was advised it would cost $3 per day to hold each suitcase while we did a MR to PTY.
When I expressed disappointment that a HHonors Diamond would be charged they waived the charges.
We also had parcels delivered and were told of the fee but it was again waived when I questioned it.

In comparison I emailed HGI El Segundo before our stay in March and was advised that they do not charge to hold parcels.

Consistently inconsistent (which other thread was this in???) ;)

Property: Hilton Capital Grand Abu Dhabi
Rate: AED224 or AUD82 (include taxes)
Booked: King Guestroom
Received: King Executive Room

The room was ready for check-in when arrived at 7am. Asked about suite upgrade and was told none available ATM, maybe later if I'm willing to wait. Decided to take the executive and, as expected in the ME, it was very specious. The bathroom was huge with separate bath and shower. I had some Junior Suites in Europe that were smaller than this room.

Went down to have breakfast at restaurant. At first was told diamonds can only eat at executive lounge but problem quickly fixed with help from supervisor. Staff very attentive making sure to constantly refill glasses with juice and coffee.

Room was conveniently allocated on the executive lounge floor. Had dinner in lounge and met some friendly long staying residents. Apparently the costs of renting compared to living at hotel in Abu Dhabi are very similar so many foreigners prefer to live in hotels. Something unusual I've noticed, all alcohol was hidden and could only be served by the host. Never seen that before at any Hilton, not even in Dubai so Abu Dhabi must have different laws.
