How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Doubletree JB
10,000 Hhonors redemption per night
Gold

Was given lounge access for the first time in 4 visits which was nice. Breakfast was perfectly acceptable but not surfeit (for that you need to go downstairs to their Makan restaurant). Day time snacks were poor but the spread during evening coughtails was much better. 9.00 check in and late checkout (1500) was the cherry on top.

Not too shabby for 10k point redemption! If we wanted to do, say, 4 nights to see SIN, would JB be too much of a PITA, or OK?

PITA. Going through the border twice a day will be time consuming. There is a direct bus to downtown Singapore but you still need to negotiate the border. Much cheaper options in JB though.

Yes I agree. I wouldn't chance if I was commuting - took 2 hours in both directions and that was outside peak hours. But as I was visiting Legoland with the cherubs, staying in JB was fine. In fact with its still in tact peranakan centre (jalan Meldrum), I kind of view it as a living museum. A tribute to the pioneering spirit of the Straits Chinese community - unfortunately with all the construction going on, I'm not sure it will be a around much longer.

It was even better than that. I received 1000 points back as my gold reward and another 5000 visa bonus (despite using mastercard) so the stay set me back a miserly 4000. I suspect I drank that alone in Tigers...

Diamond:

Conrad Hong Kong: paid standard room, upgraded to 60th floor with harbour view.
Hilton Belfast Templepatrick: paid standard room, upgraded to golf course view. Thought I had a chance at the suite but someone paid for it despite hotel not being very busy.

Property : Hilton Madison Monona Terraces Wisconsin
Status : DIamond
Room /rate: I requested a match to the conference rate at another hotel of USD134++ which they agreed. Advertising their basic room at at least $30 more for a good 6 months in the lead up.
Received : A corner room with lots of space and views of the Capitol.

Good executive lounge with FREE BOOZE! Unheard of for US Hilton! Standard breakfast inc a hot buffet.

As a modern concrete structure it has the dreaded noisy floor AC units but I worked out that by turning the temp down from 72 to 68 meant it didn't rattle through the night and the room kept a good night time temp.

Well no, I looked around and there was nothing to sign. No one else appeared to be paying or signing. There was a glass for tips but there was no staff around.

H-CNS told me on checkout this morning, that it was my 45th stay and then didn't charge for some mini bar items (about $30 worth). Nice surprise.

Keen to see if they have something special for your 50th stay - quite an achievement!

That'll roll around soon enough. I'll let you know! :p

I've been splitting my stays between H and DT, so I'll see if either do anything special, however having said that, they are a business which has to turn a profit.

Property : Hilton Seattle Airport
Status : Diamond
Room / rate : Booked standard double USD 119++
Received : King with garden view.

Nice room and property. No executive lounge so vouchers for breakfast, which included hot buffet.

Comparatively pricey restaurant.

Good location for what I wanted to do. Light rail station between the hotel and the airport $3 to downtown.

Property: Conrad Bangkok
Status: Diamond
Date: January 23rd
Room booked: Basic Room
Rate: AUD$150
Received: King Bed Executive Suite top floor
Only here for one night. We had to wait until 16.30 to get into the room, which was fine given the upgrade we received. The Lounge was a bit of a zoo that night. One bain marie of roast duck emptied in less than 10 minutes. This was our first stay at this hotel, having stayed previously at the two Hilton's. Breakfast downstairs was good and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Some January stays with Mr Gone Troppo and Miss 24 Troppo:

Property: Hilton Garden Inn Bali Airport
Status: Diamond
Room booked: Family room + rollaway
Rate: ~AUD100 per night - one night
Received: Family room + rollaway (not put in room and had to wait for it at 2am zzzzz)

Airport shuttle was a total mess - they should probably reconsider the provider. Breakfast also a mess, with pretty much no food on offer. On check in they wanted to charge for third adult breakfast, but didn't end up on the bill - would have queried this if it had, given the slim pickings. To be fair it was new year’s morning, with a full house. Pool is very nice, and rooms new and perfectly adequate for a short stay. The very decent guest laundry would be very handy if you needed it. 2pm checkout was good and no dramas when we missed this due to traffic.

Property: Hilton KL
Status: Diamond
Room booked: King Deluxe Plus room + rollaway
Rate: 26,373 HH points - one night
Received: Lifestyle Suite + rollaway

Excellent redemption, very handy location. Initially assigned room we booked, which they assumed was already upgraded - fixed up instantly on querying, with a very nice upgrade. Very comfortable, well designed suite. Breakfast in the restaurant was easily the top pick of our whole Malaysia trip (see Hyatt reviews too). Great staff. Sad to leave after just one night, would definitely stay again.

Property: Hilton Kuching
Status: Diamond
Room booked: King guest room + rollaway
Rate: 10K HH points per night - two nights
Received: King Executive Plus City View + rollaway (almost a junior suite, although initially hotel claimed upgrades on reward stays weren’t possible without paying more points - bit odd).

Bit of a crusty old building and room was musty. Good value on points though and lounge breakfast/canapes were pretty good considering - including some divine spicy hot dishes. Staff friendly and trying their best, but maybe not getting a lot of training? Kuching itself was utterly delightful - loved it! Would definitely return, and spend a couple of weeks based at a trendy little guesthouse & restaurant we spotted (instead of the Hilton). PM me for the guesthouse details if interested, and also have the phone number of an excellent taxi driver who used to be a mountain guide.

Conrad BKK

Booked base
Received Kind Corner Exec Twin (staying with my brother)
1 night only

As usual a nice hotel with an overly crowded exec lounge. I noted the new family area on the other side which is a smart touch. Had an early flight so were given breakfast boxes; gave these to a local cleaner at the airport as we had J class and lounge access.

Property: Hilton NY Fashion District
Status: Gold
Room Booked: King Bed High Floor
Price: ~USD$170/night - 16 nights
Received: King Bed High Floor (18th of 22 floors)

Received vouchers for hot buffet breakfast for all 16 nights but was given an option to change for an $18 voucher in a nearby Deli or 1000 HHonors points for entire stay. Decided to stick with hot buffet breakfast voucher but may swap a few days with deli voucher when we head out early. Bad part was they had given me one voucher only and it is one voucher per person - they realised their mistake and told me I could ask for more at any time.

Kevin, I'm staying at the same Hilton shortly.
Would you recommend the breakfast or the vouchers? (I do know you can use vouchers for anything at the deli, inc alcohol).
