How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Is it just my poor luck or does this property just not offer comp upgrades? Anyone had any successful upgrades either ahead of the stay or at chcek in? Third consecutive stay here, for a single night each time, and still higher cat room types available after my room was assigned. And look TBH, for a single night stay a King Deluxe fits the purpose just fine. It's just my experience at other Australian Hilton properties has been 'luckier' I guess.

I haven't stayed there since before covid and back then upgrades would be regular but I am at 99 stays. It took around 10 to start to get a regular upgrade. I do miss going there but my partner got sick of gong there twice a month although we still bump into long term staff occasionally when in Sydney.

Did you ask? You can’t be shy. Ive probably been proactively upgraded about 20% of the time, but if I specifically ask it’s 100%.

That said, you probably would have just been upgraded to an exec room which is the exact same room but on the exec floors. Not a huge difference.

Good to know you've experienced 100% success upon asking. For what it's worth, they reached out to me the day before via text with a general greeting and I replied saying an upgrade would be greatly appreciated. TBH I don't believe it should be necessary to request an upgrade at check-in. If the benefit is part of the tier inclusions, it should simply be provided if the inventory is available. And I get that it can be as insignificant as a 'higher level' located similar room, but the offer still should be made. But after my 3 visits in recent months (and a few last year too), I can only assume it's this property's management directive on how they action upgrades. As to my original post I was mainly keen to know if this is a common experience for anyone else?

When you say 'it took around 10 to start to get regular upgrades'. Does this suggest once you had become a familiar guest, the upgrades were because staff recognised you?

Sadly it’s pretty standard for Hiltons, particularly in the US.

I got over my pride and just ask for it now and often get very nice upgrades, including suites.

I'll be staying at the Conrad Bali in late November with my partner. Just wondering what sort of extra perks I could expect and what room they'll typically upgrade Diamonds to? I have just booked the base room.

It's also a special anniversary trip for us so I'm wondering if they'll put some rose petals out or do something special if I tell them that it's an anniversary?

I've read a few pages of this forum but would also appreciate any advice seasoned Hilton status-holders have for maximising Diamond benefits. It's unlikely I'll stay at enough Hilton properties to renew my status...

This hotel treats some diamonds really really well, but it's hard to say. I understand they can see your stay history with their own hotel and hilton in general if they want. Usually diamonds get a decent suite. Could reach out to them either way but it may backfire.
 
This talk of Conrads reminds me, I forgot to post a report last week for Conrad Las Vegas.

In a word, don't.

For those that don't know, the entire resort (Resorts World Las Vegas) is managed by Hilton, with three different properties (Hilton, Conrad and Crockfords (LXR)). They are all co-located, Crockfords effectively just being the upper floors of Conrad.

As for the Conrad where I stayed, It shouldn't be a Conrad. It is barely a Hilton. Pretty rude customer service, completely forget about bears and ducks. The F&B credit is not property wide, and only applies to a single sports bar. No market or room service charges permitted. On my stay, tips were not taken from the credit. The room is nice-ish, but only in the way a newly built Hilton is nice. It's nothing outstanding, so I don't really get why it's a Conrad.

Reviews for the Hilton are much worse, so perhaps should be a HGI. I have heard Crockfords is pretty good, but at that price you can do better elsewhere.

The location on the strip is quite remote so you're going to be getting Ubers/Taxis if you want to go somewhere else. For similar money you can stay at equally nice resorts in centre strip. In fact I have stayed at Hilton Elara (HGV) which is just behind Planet Hollywood, and that was much nicer with way better customer service.

Fortunately I only had one night here as a filler in between two different comp'd stays elsewhere, both of which were much better. In particular I'd say Cosmo is the bee's knees (go for the fountain view balcony room).
Agreed with everything you mention regarding the Conrad. I stayed last month for a few days (during the heatwave with temps reaching 120°F) and I felt the hard product was ok however as you say the front desk staff were horrible to talk to, generally dismissive no matter what the request, disinterested, etc.

The daily credit at Dawg House I actually didn't mind. Sure it would have been nice to be able to use it anywhere (or at least somewhere other than Dawg House) but I had a couple of good nights down there so can't complain. No issue with gratuities coming off at check out.

The biggest issue for me as you rightly mentioned was how far north the property is on the strip. Yes Circus Circus is next door which is ok for an hour or so but it's quite run down and anything else is an uber ride away. Previous visit to Vegas I stayed at the Mandalay Bay which is connected to a few other hotels via the monorail at the southern end which was better than Resorts World location wise but next time I'll probably go back to staying mid strip.

I think we were there almost the same time! I was at Cosmo for 3rd/4th July, then moved to Resorts World for a night (I think the night of the 5th?) and then moved to NYNY for a few more days. The record temp was set while I was at NYNY i think the day after I checked out of Resorts World.

I ended up getting my tips refunded after I contacted HHonors. I usually get a $50 F&B credit at MGM properties that I can use at any MGM outlet (not just at the casino I’m staying at) so found the Dawg House rule very restrictive. I didn’t really like their food anyway.

My next visit will be Park MGM.

I think the outcome depends on the hotel. Stayed at Conrad Maldives a few years ago. Mentioned it was our anniversary and had an arrangement on the bed. Got ‘free’ breakfast but no upgrade. Having said that, the dumpiest room at this resort is beach front so I’m sure we did ok and this being one of the more expensive HH resorts …

Having said that, at Hawaiian village, the website says ‘book the room you want as there will be no upgrades’. I’m glad I did as wasn’t upgraded tho they did tell me they’d upgraded me until I highlighted it was actually the room I’d booked (also on the same side of the building).

Some resorts, you might get an upgrade and not at others.

That’s the same at all brands. Marriott deals with it by displaying a sign stating how many guests of different statuses are currently checked in. That’s their subtle way of saying ‘no upgrades’.

I haven't been there since Covid. Twice as diamond both times upgraded from a base room to a suite. First one a suite in the regular section and second to the suites wing.

In terms of special treatment, you'll get access to the suites wing pool which is much quieter and no kids. Breakfast, afternoon tea and canapes in the EL are really good.

When booking, I will put in the comments section a note if its a special occasion stay. Some places will just do something others ignore it. IF you want something special done, just reach out directly. Hotels are usually pretty accommodating like that.

2 x rooms booked separately ($209, $160 p/n)
Booked: King Superior Room
Received: King Deluxe Room
Small plate of Profiteroles in each room, plus some chocolates and a welcome card. Full breakfast included for Diamonds, coffee tax applied four barista coffees. Great location and older style hotel, rooms were lovely and very spacious.

Doubletree Queenstown
2 x rooms booked on the same booking ($203 each p/n)
Booked & Received: King Deluxe Lakeview (highest cat room)
Small bottle of wine and chocolates in both rooms with a welcome card. Left early in the morning so didn’t try breakfast. Staff offered to transfer our luggage from DT to the Hilton as we were moving there the following night which was appreciated. Rooms were lovely with great views. Staff at check in also comped third breakfast for us which was lovely (although we didn’t use it).

Hilton Queenstown
Booked & Received: Two Bedroom Lakeview Residence ($469 p/n)
Unfortunately not Deluxe Two Bedrooms were available at check in and I didn’t realise they had an extra bathroom, otherwise I would’ve booked it outright. Bottle of wine and chocolate bar provided in room upon check in.
$10 pp extra for full buffet, although this wasn’t charged to our final bill so not sure if that was intentional or not. Just had filtered coffee so unsure of coffee tax. Gym was nice although rather small for such a huge hotel. Indoor pool seemed big and a spa too. Late check out of 1pm provided.

FWIW I preferred the DT over Hilton in ZQN due to the rooms, pricing and obviously the delicious cookies. I’m fairly certain the amenities can be used by guests of both hotels too which is a bonus.

Had a terrific time at the Hilton Bali resort. I’m not really a resort person so I was happily surprised. As a diamond member we had access to the executive lounge and nightly canapés and drinks. The coughtails in the EL were pretty ordinary, but the other drinks were okay. We received a couple of complimentary fruit platters during our three night stay. The staff were exceptionally welcoming.

Had a terrific time at the Hilton Bali resort. I’m not really a resort person so I was happily surprised. As a diamond member we had access to the executive lounge and nightly canapés and drinks. The coughtails in the EL were pretty ordinary, but the other drinks were okay. We received a couple of complimentary fruit platters during our three night stay. The staff were exceptionally welcoming.

I was told it was not possible for both; however, I overheard at least a few (2-3 from memory) Gold guests who got upgraded rooms instead (on the same day, after my check-in). The room provided was on the lowest floor, next to the elevator, quite the opposite of my preference and saved in my Hilton account settings.

The Rooftop Bar, MUN, had a nice view of the Basilica; however, the staff was cold towards me, and it took me an effort to get their attention to order drinks (eventually, I just gave up after two drinks).

I would have given up after none and moved on. Sounds like your custom is not deserved. That's why I rarely stay at chain hotels anymore.
