General comments: Check-in at 1.30pm - lost our booking. Apparently problem with Accor payment system. Waited at reception for about 20 mins. Then sent to 30[SUP]th[/SUP] floor for a “drink” in Club Lounge. Arrived at 30[SUP]th[/SUP] floor and could not enter because door locked for Club guests only and no one at Club reception. Had to follow some other guests in after some time hanging around the lifts…Finally found a Club lounge assistant who advised our room is not ready. After 2 hour wait the Club lounge person give us a key card and printed off a welcome letter and we could proceed to our room. Now 4pm.

First experience in Club lounge as Platinum – sorry to say nothing spectacular. Probably return.

Quite a comedy of errors on their part, for your first impression. Sorry to hear that your check-in process was so poor.

I'm staying there next month, and I hope that they are able to lift their game. I must remember to post about the stay.

Property: Sebel Flinders Lane Melbourne

Room booked: Standard Room - 1 King bed

Room upgraded/type: Yowsers! See pics below

Rate: $220-odd

Free internet: Yes

Welcome drink: Yes

Early check in/late out: Not requested / needed

VIP treatment: 2 bottles water with personalised message.

Access to executive lounge (if existing): N/A

General comments: Convenient location (between Queen and Elizabeth). Great 'boutique hotel' feel; quiet; classy.

And now for the 'yowsers!' Was upgraded to not so much a room as an apartment on 9th floor (of 10). Full kitchen with dining, leading into lounge, leading into study (doesn't show well in pics), leading into bedroom, leading into large bathroom, with large stand alone bath, large shower etc etc. Windows look onto internal courtyard.

Something I haven't seen in a hotel room before - a Vintec wine fridge! (Unfortunately not stocked - in fact no refreshment centre at all, except tea and coffee). Ghastly décor in my opinion.

Property: Menzies Sydney

<snip>

General comments: Would only consider this again if the price was extremely right

I don't think the Menzies gives you points or 'nights' for the stay do they? Didn't used to. I stopped staying there years ago and not because of the points issue.

Points and nights were indeed awarded for the rooms i had booked and also as this was second stay of a promotion the bonus 4,000 points kicked in as well, no problems whatsoever with the points thankfully !

Good to hear. Maybe when it changed hands the game got lifted.

I would never consider the Menzies again.

Property: Sofitel Sydney

Access to executive lounge (if existing)Lounge available but as this hotel is a law unto themselves when it comes to acknowledging Platinum status none granted !!!

Why? From the LeClub brochure, it lists plats as getting...

Access to Executive Floor/Executive Lounge/Premier Lounge

Wouldn't refusal be a breach of the LeClub conditions?

Well I'm confused. After reading many posts in this thread, I see a loyalty program that could never be relied upon to deliver the espoused benefits. I have to ask, why? Why bother? Why put up with lies? Why give them the time of day, let alone cash?

I understand that some of these hotels have done a really good job at pleasing loyalty members, yet others (it appears) seem to go out of their way to piss everyone off. I'd like to try Accor (CNS has lots of Accor properties and the Sea Temple in Port Douglas could interest me) but I just cannot rationalise the angst against the benefit. Am I missing something?

Sydney and Melbourne sofitels have a clause where club lounge access is not provided. All other properties worldwide give access.

Theres no lounge access as there is no lounge at pullman port douglas. I did enjoy my stay there recently though

Seems easy, don't use Sofitels Sydney and Melbourne. I did realise Sea Temple didn't have a lounge, but I like the property. I also like the Sheraton even given the desperate need for an upgrade (it is currently happening). Sheraton has the better position and the nicer surroundings. The place will still be hard to beat if the renos are even half decent (hopefully they do better than half), but the Pulman is certainly a hot contender with age on her side. But given the mixed Accor results (it's not just Sofitels as far as I can see, what's this rubbish I read about some deciding they just might not bother to award points??????), from where I sit, a second status chain would have to be SPG, surely?

Asia is where you really get bang for buck with Accor WP. While I have had good experiences in Australia and AKL, from my experience and research on FT, Asia seems to be the sweet spot. Upgrades, gifts, complimentary laundry, fruit platters, cheese platters, chocolates, and bottled water can be had in most properties.

With the current promo you can obtain gold in 3 stays of 2 nights or more. Accor are working hard at obtaining and retaining market share.

We've got something like 18 nights in 6 properties in Vietnam and Cambodia next month. Stay tuned. I may yet do a TR.

Ive had no issues earning points. Its clear at accorhotels.com if the hotel does not participate in Le Club.

Accor is excellent for its huge range from budget to luxury and excellent coverage in Australia Asia and Europe
