General comments:

A nice resort - the first resort I've properly stayed at. The beach club is a much welcome respite from the more hectic and noisy family pool area. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was of pretty good quality, and with the Accor Plus discount, not too pricey.

I had two main niggles with the stay however:

The first is that, if given a choice, I'm not sure I would have accepted the room upgrade - especially if the differences from it and the room originally chosen were described to me. The suite, although very nice, was located nearly as far away from the Beach Club as possible, and therefore smack-bang in the middle of the family zoned accommodation area. One of the reasons for booking the original room choice was to be in the 'adults only' section of the resort. Didn't really feel comfortable using the 'balcony' spa - with being on the ground floor it was very exposed to everyone walking by (my Accor booking preferences request a high floor).

The second is that although the complementary bottle of wine was very welcome, addressing it with a personal note to "Mr & Mrs Sludge321" seemed a bit of an assumption (My feelings say probably 95% innocent assumption, 5% malicious joke?). Being a gay man, this wasn't too appropriate, and had a good laugh about it - but even for a straight couple, assuming they are married is a bit of a stretch?

Also had one short power cut, and a loud false-fire-alarm alert.

The Beach Club was great - and food very good. Also tried the 'Salt' restaurant a couple of times, this was also quite nice (I recommend the local Walu fish steak).

In addition, a 'Welcome back for your [-]second[/-] third stay ...' letter from the manager. This place has perhaps the best elite recognition of any Accor I've been in.

How does Accor treat you an an Elite guest?

Sludge- this is just an Asian/Pacific thing with the Mrs and Mr. Has happened to me on basically every stay when I get something complimentary, if I'm by myself or with a girlfriend. We've learned to just laugh about it and ignore it. Places like Fiji will take a long time to adapt the subtleties.

Ah, good to know - that is pretty much what I thought, but wasn't completely sure. Was quite funny at the time - was only on reflection I had some doubts, haha :).

I stayed there for 3 nights late-May / early June and agree the sushi in the lounge was woeful.

Had 2 nights this week and no sushi at all! Some nice cold meats one night but after the single plate had been finished there was no replacement. Even fewer offerings the next night. But just as I thought the food was going downhill out came two big serves of really nice calamari; and a bowl of spring rolls. Nice wines and some good spirits. A decent enough lounge and thankfully doesn't seem to ever be crowded.

I provided feedback to 'Carly Saunders Quality and Attitude Manager FRONT OFFICE' The sushi was much better last weekend. PM me if you want to provide feedback. I have her details. The rice was undercooked and was tasteless. No vinegar or mirin evidently. The staff were attentive though. Try the seafood chowder at degree gastro bar at the viaduct if you get a chance.

General comments:

The stay was fantastic. Staff brilliant throughout and extremely helpful. Had a spa treatment and was generously under-charged. Lounge canapés and drinks were good but very crowded first night and service a bit slow. No last call for drinks so a bit of a surprise when all suddenly packed up.

Property: Sofitel Brisbane

Why was the lounge closed kermatu, was this just a one off or something more permanent? Where did they relocate the lounge to?

I believe they had a group function that booked out the entire space for 4 days. From about midday Sunday to Thursday. As breakfast wound up on Sunday some folk were starting to move furniture around. It definitely wasn't for repairs.

I don't know how often that happens. My guess is not too frequently as front desk staff were a little uncertain about times and arrangements. First time I've stayed there so can't tell.

The lounge was effectively moved to the much, much smaller Prive249 lounge on the lobby level. So no view, and far less comfortable. At least the evening canapés were there - I left before having breakfast next morning so don't know, but think breakfast was there too. It's not a great space for setting out food. But they picked a good time as the Sunday evening had far fewer attendees than Saturday evening.

I had a couple of coffees in the main bar/lounge on the house as a club guest. I suspect they'd have extended that to a wine or beer (outside of the canapés time) as compensation if asked, but I didn't.
