How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Pullman (combined Mercure) Melbourne Albert Park stay in May 2017 as a Le Club Platinum.

Room as booked but pleased to see a complimentary bottle of water and a little treat, both very nice touches.

I just caught the end of the exec lounge evening canapés which were pretty good but limited selection. My preferred wine had run out (empty bottle) but the lovely attendant found a fresh one even though only about 2 mins until the canape hour concluded.

An update since my last stay, breakfast is no longer served in the exec lounge here, just a plate of croissants next to the coffee machine! Alas, staff at reception agreed that I could have breakfast in the restaurant. Good selection available but a large and busy space, most of the 'hot' food wasn't. Still happy to get the Platinum treatment.

Rather than reinvent the wheel my October 2017 stay at Pullman Albert Park mirrored the one in May.

However I'd make particular mention of the Exec Lounge staff for friendly service. Lobby staff at checkin less so and the restaurant is a bit of a shemozzle; no one appears to actually be in charge or ensuring things run smoothly.

Rate: Approx $110
Free internet: Yes, but could only get the 2 hour public rate to work. Didn't need to chase up the rest.
Welcome drinks: Yes, one. Arrived very late so had pre-requested a wine in the room which was there when I arrived.
Early check in / late out: Not required.
Exec Lounge: No
VIP treatment: Welcome note, box of local fudge (very nice), large bottle of water. Plus wine as above, and when I grabbed a couple of snacks from the store/pantry next to reception, the charge was waived.

Great communication with Therese prior to arrival. Only problem is I asked for no upgrade as I was only there for a few hours and wanted a walk-in shower. Couldn't really turn down the upgrade at midnight so enjoyed the larger room instead.

Slept in so missed breakfast (which was part of the very good room rate), but was able to use one of their boardrooms for my meetings and had some breakfast pastries provided - room and pastries totally free. Took advantage of free shuttle as well back to the airport.

Have stayed once before a couple of years back and rooms have, I think, been refreshed and are in pretty good condition. Though I really wouldn't stay here in any other circumstance than a short transit stay.

Even though only a 14 hour stay, I got terrific value here for $110 - a room, wine, snacks, 90 minutes boardroom use, free shuttle. Hopefully won't need to do this ridiculous run again (AKL-DRW-AKL in a 36 hour window), but if I do I will happily stay here again.

Additional care: Exceptional staff that take care to remember your drink preferences if it is alcoholic or not.
General comments: Exceptional staff in the executive lounge and to name a few - Voung Tranf, Hein, Meiw and Minh.

Some of the staff I recall from 2015 and it was a real pleasure to see their careers and head that their personal lives had progressed. (getting married etc).

A new feature that I understand is being rolled out at certain properties is the virtual butler. I'm not sure if it is available to all Accor tier members but as a WP I used it extensively. You register your WhatsApp number with the concierge and they will answer any questions you have whether you are in the property or offsite. Initially we used it to order Bahn Mi from a great little place around the corner. But we found ourselves in a sketchy situation in Nha Trang, two days after checking out. I used the send live location feature to the virtual butler at 1.23am and got a reply at 1.48am. I explained the situation and was asked to confirm if/when we got back to out hotel in Nha Trang Safely. I did and was most thankful for their reply.

Needless to say I rate this hotel.

But it doesn't stop there! We met Danny Grimshaw, the Mad Butcher who recently opened the Mad Cow on the 30th floor at the Pullman Hotel, former Cobalt restaurant. I had the lBraised lamb with Hand-rolled gnocchi, mushroom & parmesan and my buddy had the Wagyu beef cheek bourguignon (W.A) with Buttered mash, shallot, mushroom, bacon tartar.

This property has a free shuttle bus to all the city attractions. Personally I prefer to walk of get an Uber scooter.

Comments: on check was advised room upgraded to lounge access, high floor then found we lost park view with the upgrade. wasn't really happy with this as i assumed when i booked i would be given lounge as a plat, not an upgrade to a club room. the only reason i think they sold it this way was to avoid a suite upgrade (next room type assuming club access given). enjoyed stay club staff were fantastic, food and drink selection very good. room serviced well and staff around hotel always welcoming. had breakfast in restaurant each morning rather than club due to range on offer. good location between two BTS stations, large shopping centre Terminal 21 nearby and 5 mintues into siam central. overall would stay again if had club access.

Did anyone else receive an apology email for being advised of the wrong status a few weeks ago (see upthread)? Nice to get an apology as well as acknowledgement that my status is confirmed through to 31/12/18.

Room upgraded/type: Club Floor

Free internet: Yes, and actually usable now! Used to have atrocious internet but the promised upgrade seems to have been delivered as no issues whatsoever this time around.
Welcome drink: x 2, but treated quite rudely by the barman when redeeming, and denied a G&T (which he had already poured) despite this being the only drink I've ever ordered with the vouchers on my visits 4-6 times a year.
Early check in/late out: late checkout to 5pm
VIP treatment: bottle of water and a small boxed pastry. This has noticeably declined over the past 12 months. The guest relations call a day or prior to checkin to confirm the booking and any special requirements, which was a nice touch, has also ceased.
Access to executive lounge (if existing): yes. breakfast improved with the addition of eggs to order, however the canapes selection has reduced with the hot food replaced by a small plate served to your table. The hot food is generally better than what was previously in the buffet though.
Additional care: n/a

After years of consistently great stays here its a bit more hit and miss now. They still do most things right but I miss the old levels of service. Usually spend a week in Brisbane around xmas time with the family at this hotel (my other stays are work) and we have made other arrangements this year due to this.
