Property: Swissotel Sydney
Status: Accor Plus Gold
Room booked : Premier King (base room)
Room upgraded: I believe it was a corner King Room as it had two windows and was on a high floor and at end of floor away from lifts. Upgrade not mentioned at check in. Room didn’t have Nespresso machine so not sure whether it was an upgraded room category or just a very good room of the base type. In any case, it was a pleasant room so I was happy.
Rate: Flexible booking for one night at last minute so it was fairly expensive.
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drink: Yes, voucher for two. Redeemable for house wines, soft drinks, tea, coffee.
Welcome gift: No, although when I asked about this at the end of our one night stay I was told the gift is a “sweet amenity.” This was offered to you by knocking on your door but I was told I must have either had do not disturb sign on and/or was not in when they came. We may have had do not disturb sign on so this was possibly why it didn’t happen and we were out for most of the evening. Of course, if they had told me upon check in that this was the gift I would have told them when to deliver it. When we return I will proactively ask about my welcome gift.
Early/Late checkout: was able to check in quite early at just before 12 noon and this was much appreciated after an early start to the day. This was made even better when I walked past reception at 1pm to see a long line for checking in. Late checkout to 12 noon only.
Other notes: hotel currently undergoing renovation of public areas with bar and restaurant still open while new reception and restaurant is being constructed. Buffet breakfast was very good particularly at accor plus discounted rate. Room was clean and modern and very comfortable. Location is hard to beat being near train station and various shops and restaurants. Seems like they don’t always have enough staff on reception so there were long lines at various times when we went past but this is always a challenge in large hotels at peak times. Overall a good stay and I wouldn’t hesitate to return.
