Booked this 2 bedroom, as my sister was meant to be joining us, but she didnt end up coming. I went against my better judgement and took advantage of discount paying at time of booking- so couldnt cancel/amend it. If id know my sister wasnt coming, wouldve booked the Sofitel.
Property is old, but well mainted. Our pool was freezing ! no sun light, but we still enjoyed it.
Room was great and wouldnt hesitate to stay here again.

Moved here from Nusa Dua. Really nice foyer , but the place will need some serious work in the future, a lot of corrosion to outside structurers.
When we checked in, we were asked if we wanted to move to a junior suite the next day. We said we'd like to check it out when its available to see if we like it. Our booked room had direct access to the shared plunge pool- more like kiddies pool, but was a great temp.
We did move to the suite, as we liked the view.460123158_8159237460829205_3829065191975135502_n.jpg459916443_8159237697495848_8526254969378905260_n.jpg459916366_8159325497487068_4188765856124718203_n.jpg460151002_8159323987487219_4258785255527341826_n.jpg

Looks ok and guess the trade off is it was a cheap rate @Muppet501st !

Curious to know if you dined in or took advantage of the many beaut restaurants on Jalan Mengiat?

This was a very mixed stay. The check in was fast, efficient and informative, but not especially welcoming.
The room was fine, on the 16th floor and did have a nice view of Hyde Park. However, it was a bit run down - carpet could have been cleaner, the upholstered arm chair was grubby, and it had a very dated huge spa bath with shower over. I would have much preferred a modern shower.

In the note to the hotel at time of booking, I had advised them that we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. Based on how we have been "pampered" (with chocolate, brownies with candles, towel animals, a couple of flowers, a plate of fruit, and on several occasions a bottle of house wine) when celebrating special birthdays, a graduation etc at other Accor properties, even the Ibis) I anticipated that they might make some small gesture. No deal. We got nothing. Not a welcome gift (which even lowly silver members usually get eg bottle of sparkling water, a bottle of still water, chocolates etc), not even a welcome note. It was a bit disappointing really. It would not have been hard to type a sticker saying "happy anniversary Mr and Mrs Seat) and stick that on a post card on our pillow.

Breakfast was OK - the food selection was not as wide as in other Accor properties, and on every morning our omelettes had a strange rubbery texture that wasn't very nice. But the coffee was great. And the staff were prompt and attentive.

The bar staff were very flexible with what was available on the welcome drink vouchers, which was appreciated.

The hotel was relatively empty - we never had to wait for a lift, and sometimes the lift we used to access our room or the car park was still there when we came back! And there were plenty of window tables at breakfast each day.

Decided to have a staycation with my partner, whilst at the same time taking advantage of the ongoing Accor promotion of 500 bonus points per stay at an ibis property (along with an 8% cash back bonus from Shopback). The price was right, and I noticed that this property is one of the few ibis Budgets in Australia participating in the Accor ALL program (meaning I should earn Accor points, a night towards keeping my Accor platinum status, Accor Platinum benefits like free breakfast and the welcome gift) and it was some place my partner and haven't really been to before.

Check in was quick and professional. The receptionist recognized my Platinum status and handed me the welcome gifts. I was also handed a sheet with details about the hotel (i.e. breakfast, and free wifi). Having stayed at another ibis Budget before (Sydney airport) I was actually quite impressed with the level of service considering it is just a budget hotel.

The room itself was basic but certain had more amenities than I would come to expect in an ibis budget like a chair and workstationette area:

IMG_2875.jpeg
I've had worse views:
IMG_2877.jpeg

The washroom situation is... interesting. The shower stall is shared with the bedroom space although there is a curtain one can pull for additional privacy. However, the toilet has its own closet. For those curious, this property provides a shub-free environment:

IMG_2880.jpeg

Breakfast was... basic. There was a pancake maker machine, some wholemeal, white and fruit bread toast with the usual spreads (Nutella, peanut butter, jam, etc.), fresh fruit (bananas, apples, pears), cereal, muesli, yogurt and peaches (in fridge) along with coffee/tea and some juices. In other words slightly better than a Super 8 breakfast in the 'States but not by much:

Overall, I was fairly impressed with the whole setup. Certainly better than every ibis budget I've been to (aside from perhaps the one in Dresden, but that's a story for another day), and certainly one I would recommend going to if the price is right. And at least for Accor+ members, there are some good deals I see at this property (with prices as low as $80/night).

You are right to be disappointed here. Having stayed at the Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour as an Accor+Platinum mind you, during the one year anniversary of my partner and I being boyfriend/girlfriend, the hotel pulled out all the stops for us: a nice little anniversary cake to greet us in our room along with a hand written note from the manager congratulating us on the anniversary. At the restaurant, where we had dinner to celebrate the waiter brought out a small plate of macaroons to celebrate the anniversary. And then when we returned to the room a bottle of wine. Now yes, I did let them know about the anniversary, but they certainly followed through with the gestures.

To your point about why this didn't happen. I can think of three reasons why it didn't happen.

First it could simply be a property limitation. Some Accor properties do seem to do more for following through with guest requests. For instance, I do wonder whether this would have been any different if you stayed at a Sofitel, which is renowned for its service. Keep in mind too that sometimes there are limitations that are property specific. For instance, Pullmans which do tend to be of higher quality do offer slightly different experiences depending on where you stay. For instance, I'd challenge you to stay at the Pullman Sydney Airport and also at the Pullman Auckland Hotel & Apartments. Both offer good service, but only the one in Auckland has bothered to reopen its executive lounge for elites. A similar thing with the Sofitels in Sydney. Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour is arguably the flagship Sofitel in Australia (and I've stayed at a number of them here). Great service, a dedicated executive lounge on the top floor with executive lounge check-in for Platinums. Meanwhile the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, which is maybe a 15 minute walk away, doesn't have a proper executive lounge, and you'll be queueing in check-in with everyone else. Now granted, that is because they are under renovation.

The second reason why I think you weren't treated as well may be due to your status. Silver isn't much in terms of status as literally anyone can get that status just by signing up for an Accor paid membership program like Accor+. From my experience, having been an Accor Silver, Gold and now Platinum, what I will say is that nearly every hotel treats a Platinum good. Everywhere from the ibis Budget Sydney Olympic Park to the Sofitel Melbourne, I have always been treated like VIP in terms of check-in, room upgrades, late check out and breakfast. For instance, at nearly every hotel in Australia it has not been an issue asking for a 12 PM check out, with some properties like the Sofitel going so far as to give me a 2 PM check out. Remember, very few people can reach these higher tiers of Platinum, Diamond and Limitless status. For instance, Platinum requires staying 60 nights or effectively 40 if you have Accor+ which is something the casual traveller cannot attain. Sure you can earn status by staying a couple of nights at very expensive hotels, but for the casual traveller are you really gonna spend $1000 a night at a hotel? Doubt it! Being Gold helps a little in the sense that you are more likely to get a bottle of wine as a welcome gift than a look of disdain from the hotel manager, and maybe a slightly later check out if you ask real nice.

The third possibility why the request wasn't honoured may come down to how you communicated the "ask" to the property. Did you simply enter this in to the comments box when booking online or did you pick up the phone and call the property? If you did call them, did you call them at the time of booking or a week or less before you checked in? In my case, the Sofitel called me a couple days before (as they do anyone who has made a booking) to inquire if there is anything they could do for my stay, and I mentioned this request then and there.

Breakfast was OK - the food selection was not as wide as in other Accor properties, and on every morning our omelettes had a strange rubbery texture that wasn't very nice. But the coffee was great. And the staff were prompt and attentive.
I take it this was a buffet set up at the Pullman? If so, what options did they have? Was it all buffet or were there stations where you could order things like an omelette being made by the chef? Going back to Accor Platinum, yes being Platinum helps when it comes to this as well. For one thing, we never have to book a rate that includes breakfast because Platinums get breakfast for free in Asia-Pacific. Importantly though, the restaurant crew generally treat Platinums better including seating them in a more desired location roped off for Platinums (e.g., Fairmont Blue Mountains), offering additional menu items and even preparing things fresh for you. When you stay at a property that has an executive lounge, you often get served breakfast in the lounge meaning you order off a menu instead of going up to a buffet and eating something that may have been sitting there for hours. At least this was my experience staying at the Sofitel Darling Harbour and Sofitel Melbourne. Granted, the menu may not be as extensive as the items on the buffet, but you can always ask the lounge attendant to pick you up some items from the buffet too.

Sorry for bothering but am a bit curious here: does the Sofitel Broadbench have an executive lounge for elites? If so, do they offer a-la carte dining for breakfast? Considering staying here as a Platinum and this would certainly help me decide.

According to the Accor web site they do not. Appears only Adelaide, Melbourne, Mascot, Brisbane and Sydney (darling harbour) have EL's. Being a Plat you will get breakfast in the restaurant FOC for how many in you booking. ( 1 or 2 )

Definitely no lounge here (other than the VIP pokie lounge that's attached :D ); the breakfast is basic buffet fare. As others have suggested, it's best to keep expectations in check on this place... it's more like an ageing Novotel than it is a Sofitel, a few elements aside. The site was purchased by Chinese developers in 2014, and they never got around to many/any improvements, from what I can tell. We gave it a final chance after some lacklustre experiences & booked the Opera Suite for just under a week, about 2 years back, but that was a poor decision. It's a shame, as it's a good location with more potential.

The only premium options on the Gold Coast under Accor are the Peppers at Broadeach and Surfers. A Mondrian is on the way a little further south, at Burleigh, too. I'm also hopeful that the Sheraton Grand Mirage resort, which was bought up last year by hoteliers who tend to run AccorHotels properties will brand that as a Sofitel resort, once they get around to their long overdue refurbishment of the place.

Cheers,
Matt.

I would be inclined to agree with you and the Accor website for that matter, however, that website has been wrong in the past (i.e. stating that there is no breakfast for Platinums at the ibis Barangaroo). At the same time, there are some hotels I can think of which boast a lounge and in theory should be accessible to Platinums such as the Pullman Sydney Olympic Park.

Good to know!

There are a couple of properties I've stayed at in Australia which certainly fit that bill (i.e. the Fairmont Blue Mountain). And it's a real pity since a decent amount of capital spend could certainly be later realized when people flock to your property. It's one of the reasons why I pinched my nose and booked the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth during its renovation. Yes there wasn't much of a lounge or fitness centre but you could start to see the hotel shaping up with us being put in a newly renovated room (oh and the price was right too!)

Peppers? I've heard of them, but would be curious what type of hotel they are. Is it more like an apartment hotel such as the Sebel, or is it more like a normal hotel like a Mercure or Novotel?

Did not arrive until late - the reception agent was mightily flustered, especially when I informed him that I was a Accor+Platinum rather than a Silver member as shown on their paperwork. I was a Silver when I booked - not sure why the system did not update. Just accepted the assigned room and updated my details the next morning so eventually got benefits, including free breakfast and lounge access.

The location is super convenient, if you want to be on Orchard Rd. About a 7 min walk to two MRT stations, Paragon SC next door and the best Chicken Rice in SIN in Lucky Plaza L6. (Apparently it is Michelin Starred Chicken Rice).

Once we got access the the small (but not busy) Lounge, we had the strongest G/Ts mixed for us by Dahlia (same as the flower, she says). She kept offering too - how could we say no!

Room was adequate - we never bothered to ask for an upgrade.

The busy restaurant seemed to keep a couple of tables for Platinum members at breakfast so did not have to wait and close to the buffet - selection was okay but not refreshed fast enough.

I seldom miss a visit to the Botanical Gardens while in Singapore. Here is the Kamala Harris Orchid. (hope that's not a political statement - could not see a Trump Orchid)

Properties can vary, with many offering hotel or studio rooms as well as serviced apartments. I'd position them above the brands you mentioned, but the caveats are they are geared more towards longer stay, so often not a full service property, and also they don't earn at the full ALL participating rate, so many would preference them as a place for burning ALL points, rather than staying and paying. Worth a look at Broadbeach & Surfers, anyway.

Peppers Silo Launceston and Peppers Cradle Mountain are two out favourite Accor properties in Australia.
Their points earn is real poor but that’s not really an issue for us personally
