Welcome gift: The welcome note in my room said enjoy the macaroons but sitting there was only a little pot of apricot jam. Somewhat bizarre.

Recommended: Yes. Good staff, good amenities, 5 min walk from the station and ditto to the Cathedral. Laundry was pretty cheap.

Pretty good place, well located and pretty quiet. Very good Plat recognition and amenities.

Property: Mercure Strasbourg Centre Petit France
Status: Accor+ Platinum
Room booked: Classic room, double bed
Room upgraded/type: Yes, larger room (and worth it - the standard rooms are tiny)
Rate: $400/night, members flex
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: No
Early check in/late out: I didn't pre request early check in, but not available - room not ready. Wasn't ready to 3pm (normal check in time)
Welcome drink: No
Welcome gift: More bizarreness. Welcome gift was a 500g packet of Christmas-themed pasta.
Recommended. Was OK; very expensive for what it was, but a flex rate and Christmas. Well located abt 10min walk with bags from the station.

Again, an OK place (Mercure). Cleaning was clearly under-staffed. On my floor, cleaners stuff all over the place for most of the day.

Room was quiet, in spite of being on the (pedestrianised) street - two sets of double-glazed windows.

Property: Ibis Styles Jakarta Airport

ALL PLUS Ibis 15% Off Flex B&B $80/night)
Category booked: Superior 1 Double Bed (19m2)
Room upgrade: Yes. Deluxe Rm (23m2) top floor
Early check-in, late check-out : 5pm without blinking (only needed 3pm for 6pm onward flight)
Welcome drink : 2 non-alcoholic in app vouchers
Welcome amenity: Fruit plate
Parking : NA
Transfer: Free priority transfer to/from airport

I wouldn’t normally bother with mentioning an Ibis hotel but this is the 3rd stay this year as lowly Gold but treated well.

Each time I’ve easily received a late checkout - great for arvo/evening onward flights to Europe/home.

Plus a free private transfer to the airport.

BUT this stay, they proactively reached via WhatsApp on the day of arrival asking if I needed a private transfer from the airport - which I jumped at. On landing, messaged back and forth to confirming timing and meeting point and off we went.

Previously, I knew there was shuttle service (seemed too confusing) so took a premium Grab (about $20 to go not very far). 2nd time tried unsuccessfully to find the shuttle and settled for a regular Grab in amongst the ordered chaos of CGK. The Private Hotel service collected us just outside the West Lobby door - all undercover.

Booked again for our return home but actually thinking of trying the Mercure PIK (just because there’s a bit more to do filling in time before the evening QF42).
Hotel is fine, don't bother with their shuttle service from the airport. To the airport can be considered but from it's more than a bit ridiculous.

That was the point of my post. The complimentary “Private” shuttle transfer from the airport was brilliant.

The regular shuttle is just not worth the effort.

Property: Novotel Melbourne Central
Status: Accor+ Platinum
Room booked: Superior room
Room upgraded/type: No, although deluxe rooms (next category up) were still on sale for my dates
Rate: $192.5, Accor+ non-refundable
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: Yes
Early check in/late out: didn't require early check-in. Late check-out granted till 2pm.
Welcome drink: Yes, selection of mixers, house beer, house wine.
Welcome gift: Socks, a $20 bottle of red, a chocolate bar, and a bottle of water
Recommended: Yes, but price-dependent. Location is excellent and hard product is very solid, but other Accor hotels are better at the $250+ price range.

Well, I’m currently 4/4 at getting denied upgrades in AU since achieving plat. Let’s see if I can keep this streak up 😄

The hotel itself occupies the same building as the ibis - the Novotel rooms are on the higher floors and have a different set of lifts.

The hard product is excellent, especially if you can get the room for <$200 a night. Location is equally great, 5 minutes from Melbourne Central station.

The bed was nice, but it’s one of those “twin combined into king” beds. The line in the middle is quite pronounced, so you essentially have to sleep on both sides of the bed.

Some pictures of the room:

The bathroom has an external sink, and it’s a bit cramped for 2 people. Shower pressure was good.

Amenities are not pre-supplied in the room, but are available upon request. It took housekeeping 30 minutes to deliver a vanity kit, and another 30 to deliver a dental kit and slippers.

The welcome gift was nicer than average, but the hotel emailed me 2 days before to ask for my preference of still or sparkling water. I asked for sparkling, and was given still.

IMG_4256.jpeg

The staff were very friendly, but I feel like they could be better trained. The first receptionist I called for amenities did not know if they even had vanity kits. And as I mentioned above, 1 hour to deliver some amenities is a bit much.

Breakfast was alright, but nowhere near worth the asking rate of $38. It was a standard continental buffet, with an extra charge for barista coffee.

Would I stay here again? Probably, as the location is really good for a short stay. Depending on the price though, there are other Accor options in the CBD that may be more worthwhile. For example, this is at most $50 better than the Ibis in the same building. The Pullman City Centre also has a better breakfast for Platinums, and nicer rooms - if they were within $50 of each other, I’d take the Pullman (although the service at this Novotel is miles better).

Property: pullman Melbourne on the park
Status: Accor+ Platinum
Room booked: Premium Superior room
Room upgraded/type: Yes, deluxe executive (top floor, nice view of mcg), i think this is an upgrade/not upgrade, as it’s just a premium room on the executive level, i already had a premium room which is supposed to come with a high floor and executive lounge access via platinum. 🤷‍♂️
Rate: Stay+ with $40 co payment, the A+ rate at time of booking was $350
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast: Yes, in exec lounge or restaurant, restaurant has more options.
Early check in/late out: didn't require early check-in. Late check-out granted till 12pm, just in-case, requested when I got back in the evening later
Welcome drink: Yes, used for coffees in the morning
Welcome gift: a bottle of ATE Shiraz and box of chocolate. Printed welcome card.
Recommended: Unsure, it’s nice enough but probably too pricey for what it is. Was conveniently located for a function I needed to attend for a couple hours.

No status recognition on check-in, had to ask about everything.

This was a partial anniversary stay and concierge contacted a few days before asking if I wanted anything, I made a request, they responded saying it had been noted on my file, but the request did not materialize so appears they forgot, I was not charged so that’s something, luckily I did not mention anything to Mrs mort before hand .
