Is there any way of calculating the taxes, etc ... I note the QFF Points Calculator works fine for the points

re: How to Calculate Points/SC's for Qantas flights? [Pre "Simpler & Fairer"]

Apologies for dragging up an old thread - having trouble finding the answer to a couple of queries. I'll be doing my first J(M?)ASA status run next month and I'm curious as to peoples experiences in regards to posting of points. My run is 6 legs (BNE-SY-PER-KTA-PER-MEL-BNE) and, coupled with a DSC offer, will take me from NB to SG. How accurate is the system in recognising my status changes mid run and adjusting the points earn accordingly? I also understand that DSC's take a few days to post - could I expect the system to then adjust my points earn accordingly or it's just not that clever?
It's mostly academic, the actual points earn difference will be fairly inconsequential but I would still be interested to hear your experiences.
Many thanks,

BC

The system is quite clever: Mr k_sheep changed from NB to PS partway through a trip last month, and while it didn't instantaneously calculate at the new status, within 2 days (wasn't checking before then, might've been quicker) they were recalculated and the adjustment posted.

I've done a few DS runs, found the status points for the flights posted quickly the additional points up to 10 days, all were accurate.

Okay a basic question but a quick look here and QF didn't help..

So booking say MEL-AKL-MEL on EK operated aircraft, but booked on qantas.com on say QF8762 in J or F

Do I earn SCs and points as per if I was traveling on QF metal ?

Yes, points and SC's.
concur ... In this and most other cases, the QF flight number is the important part.

Yep, unless you are flying JQ...

re: How to Calculate Points/SC's for Qantas flights? [Pre "Simpler & Fairer"]

I knocked up a spreadsheet to calculate points and status credits for QF flight numbers. You just need to input the mileage of the leg, your status and seat class. There is also an option for a DSC offer.

It is only accurate for QF flight numbers since I have included the status bonus and cabin bonus as per QF rules.

Hopefully, it is helpful and I guess if demand was there, I could probably extend it to include non-QF flight numbers.

I've updated the spreadsheet to include 3 legs, to help with working out how beneficial those JASAs are, and also a lookup to give you the number points required for the direct leg of a roundabout JASA. For distances, you just copy certain cells into your web browser and hit enter and it loads up the result. You have to use the IATA three letter codes for airports for it to work though.

i think you need a new spreadsheet :o

and this thread just got a whole lot complicated with 2 lots of rules and transitional arrangements!

Indeed I do and I started to look at it, but decided that cutting my own head off with a blunt knife was going to be more satisfying than attempting to understand the 'simplified' tables.

I met yet have another go, as that was my reaction on the day of the announcement, but for now work takes priority.

I'll get this sorted in the next few weeks - I still have to assimilate all the structure ...

Ok, I've had a crack at this. Consider the attached to be an early beta version :).

It only does the QF regions at the moment and does not include the catch all, distance based table. You need to select the corresponding region. I'm wondering about the value (and my sanity) of building it such that the user enters the 3 letter airport code and the spreadsheet automatically works out which, if any, region it is in.

One thing I am unsure of and can't find any solid documentation is how the cabin bonus is calculated. I have done it based on the full base points, not the pegged back to Flex Y base points as per the status bonus.

All comments, positive or negative welcome.

The way I read it the cabin bonus must be included in the base points. :?:

thanks for the beta...

That appears to be the case.

I'm waiting for the partner airline points earn info - will there continue to be a status bonus on AA flights for example?

re: How to Calculate Points/SC's for Qantas flights? [Pre "Simpler & Fairer"]

Folks, here is another beta version....

This version deals with domestic, the international regions and other international, distance based flights. QF only, no partners.

I've saved it with an example of each scenario so you can see how it works.

You need to select whether the itinerary is Domestic or International and then depending on whether the itinerary falls into a recognised region pairing or not, there is a prompt to enter the distance. Automatically created links to Web Flyer are included in order to easily find out a distance.

At the moment, there are only a small selection of airports stored in the spreadsheet, since this is all still in testing so take a look at the 'Data (new)' tab, columns 'O' and 'P' to see which airports are listed. If you want to test an airport pairing then just edit the existing list.

Please give this a good thrashing and let me know of any bugs/improvements.

Cheers.

PS @Mods - how do I remove old attachments please?
