How to make enemies...! [by weighing carry-on]

Flying SYD-MEL two days ago and instead of weighing bags they were using the bag size gauge (metal stand). This worked really well as they only asked people with oversized bags to see if the bags fit in the gauge. Reading this thread it seems that most people are annoyed by the size of carry-on bags, not their weight, so this should make most people happy...I guess...

This seems like far too much of a common sense approach. Please ask them to cease this nonsense immediately :D

And just make the bag size gauge a weighing machine as well. The double whammy approach works well

The bag size check unit that I have seen in operation at SYD certainly incorporated a weighing function. I assume it is not the only one that does that.

Flying AK from Kul to Cnx today and was asked to weigh my carryon...sh.t I thought as I knew it was definitely over 7kg...yup 11.3 kg....not a word was said, and I just grabbed my bag and carried on my way .... :) :)

Each ticket should have a total weight allowance

Passenger plus carryon plus checked = x
Plus certain restrictions on number of carryon and checked

If under total = reward
If over total = fee payable

No weighing on the dash8 from CBR to SYD to day. Pretty empty flght.
Rarely is, which is one of the reasons I don't mind the Dash 8 to and from Sydney from Canberra - only 40 min in the air. They take your bag at the bottom of the stairs and give it back to you at the other end - especially as a 'normal' bag wouldn't fit into the overhead space on a Dash 8. It doesn't stop people trying though
