Well the Russians have started air strikes and ground attacks on Ukraine so might throw a spammer in the works for some travel
Yes there’s a Notam released for Ukrainian airspace but I don’t think QF usually flies that south nowadays.Well the Russians have started air strikes and ground attacks on Ukraine so might throw a spammer in the works for some travel
I’m thinking more along the lines that all out war in Europe is a possibilityYes there’s a Notam released for Ukrainian airspace but I don’t think QF usually flies that south nowadays.
Here’s lots of numbers !

Just as well I'm flying there in a few days time then isn't it?Highly unlikely...but if the last two years have taught us anything.....
Could well make people more jittery about booking travel to Europe though, especially eastern Europe.
The Russian areas to the east of Ukraine such as the Rostov on Don FIR are closed due to the Russian military activities so you really have to go west of Ukraine now.Is Qantas still going to operate QF1 over russian territory?
This is insane if they are....
Note that the path to the east of Ukraine is also closed by Russia… very little moving over those FIRs… you have a long long divert to stay out of the closed airspace.Yes FR24 seems to confirm this View attachment 271866

This is a government that we are in the process of sanctioning. Should QF overfly from a safety perspective?QF2 scheduled to take off in over an hour...still looking like flying over Russia.
Question of practicalities of another routing vs the principles of paying overflight fees to Russia

So we enter Russian airspace and all of a sudden a MiG is inviting you to land at an airbase. No thanks. From a safety perspective the route is well north of any hostilities, i wouldn't be concerned.
The principle of an Australian airline paying Russian ATC fees is another story.
A bit of perspective I think is helpful. It is no more or less safe than it was 24 hours ago (i.e. it's safe). This is a government that we are in the process of sanctioning. Should QF overfly from a safety perspective?
Well the Yanks have apparently got some Helo’s, F35’s and infantry on the wayHighly unlikely...but if the last two years have taught us anything.....

Its not about safety and not about fees.from a safety perspective
As you can see, this has been done. For reference, the best way to bring to the attention of the moderation team is to use the "Report" feature, available on all posts.@Admin, moderators, may we kindly have a new thread for discussing the off-topic Russian aggression?
