A few commentators out there I've read think it would be a risk for QF to give JQ the first 787's and leave the loyal QF pax to "suffer" the aged 763 fleet for another 2 years.

So, if JQ get the first 787's in lieu of QF, what does that tell you as a loyal QF customer and is it enough of an insult to make you leave QF?

My thoughts:

I strongly believe the premium QF brand should get the 787's first. From a brand management point of view it seems mad to give the new premium aircraft to the supporter brand before the premium brand.

That said, if the A332's returned to QF are upgraded to have a reasonable 2-2-2 J cabin and AVOD throughout it will be fine for a few years. If they are returned in their 2-3-2 J and "main screen" format - that's a big problem!

Given QF management have been fairly clear that JQ Int will get the 787s to release A330s to QF for the last three years I cant see how anyone could take that position.
With 747 refurbs, A330s, F lounges in SYD,MEL,SIN,HKG one can hardly say QF Int isnt being given a chance (ie starved of investment)

What about QF domestic which is where the 787 fleet is essential (to retire the 763's)?

Having seen the 787, I'm not that super keen to get on board as a paying passenger - It's, kinda of small!

Looks great from the outside. If they fit it out 3-3-3 or fit dodgy J seats - others can have it.

I'm not one to worry about how the plane looks on the outside, or how efficient it is....comfort/fit-out is everything!

Every time I get on a 737-400 I get that waive of disappointment... but is it enough to make me walk? No, not really. I'm not a VA or JQ fan so there really isn't much of an alternative

I think it's 99% sure they're going to JQ and management has been adamant about that, and I think that would be a silly thing to do. Sure, it will be a massive disappointment to have the first VH- registered 787 be in orange and silver, but it's not a saviour or the holy grail of aircraft.

Not sure it will be VH registered actually.

There is a chance the first VH registered 787's will be with Qantas though.

There is a growing line of argument that no Qantas pilots will ever fly the 787. I could easily forsee (and it has been widely rumoured) that there could be a SE Asian based Jetconnect scenario when a SE Asian based company (be it Jetstar or other) flies a Qantas branded plane to and from Australia and elsewhere.

But yes, as QF the only Australian based airline to order the 787 there is a chance.

I am more likely to walk if QF get the 787 with 3-3-3 in Y (which is most likely). JQ can have them.

The f lounge in hong kong is a joke, spent 5 minutes in it last night before proceeding to the Cathy f lounge for the remainder of my 6 hour stopover.

Yawn - About 0.0001% of Qantas customers will ever use these, maybe 10% of AFF forum members

 thats why it's called an Flounge;)

Probably why they are building/upgrading a new one that opens late this year!

But they are getting the 787 first, it’s like asking if tomorrow is a new day will you walk… there are no if’s :p

Anyway, personally, I see the continued un-loyalty shown by JQ to be a bigger issue than who gets which birds first. As I remarked to someone else today, JQ can’t continue to be un-loyal to QFF members in regards to how they’re treated to maintain their marketshare stranglehold.

You’re loyal to QF, they are loyal to you, QF pulls out and they give you JQ and expect you to be loyal to them, but JQ aren’t loyal to you, quite frankly they could care less about you, so you head to someone who values your loyalty, and someone else who doesn’t care about loyalty flies JQ. So far, no change to JQ earning money, but if those that look for loyalty start spending more with your competitor, and your competitor grows, you start to lose marketshare.
