Alas, my standard rooms at the Adelaide CP tonight were exactly that...and one of them didn't even have sheets on the bed
When I stayed at the CP Adelaide not long after it opened last year, I got upgraded to a Deluxe room (high floor, balcony etc) - all on a standard room booking.
I stayed there last month and thought I'd book a Superior room, both as a bit of a thank you for the complimentary upgrade last year and in the hope of getting a one step upgrade to Deluxe (rather than the double from Standard)... but alas it didn't happen. I was slightly disappointed by the Superior room which was pretty much what I would have expected of a Standard (though if the only difference is 3 sq metres then they are almost exactly the same).
So I had two nights at the CP and then two at the IC with the IC upgrading me to a suite (without club access), which was very nice indeed.
Those nights helped me reach the stay 7 get 10,000 points promotion which then got me to Platinum, so will be interesting to see how upgrades go now I'm supposed to get them (I was Gold Amb before, so the IC was supposed to upgrade me but the CP didn't need to).
I did have one odd thing happen at the CP Adelaide. The swipe card stopped working on my last day there and I had to go back to the front desk to get it fixed. They said even if you have a late checkout, the card stops working at noon and they have to reset it again which struck me as a bit odd - that has never happened to me at other hotels when using late checkout (not sure if they just stuffed up doing my card in the first place and were covering it up, or if they have a system which must be annoying to everyone having a 2pm checkout or the like).
The swipe card system may even be dodgy there, as one morning an elderly couple couldn't get their card to work - I had a go and it still wouldn't work so suggested they go back to the front desk and ask them to fix it and they said this was the second time this had happened to them. I had a similar experience last year, except it was my fault for trying to go to the floor I'd been on at the previous hotel rather than that hotel
.
While I see the (marginal) benefits for checking that the person stays on the floor that has been selected on the lift, I do think it would be a pain if you were staying there with a friend/colleague and you couldn't visit each other except going via the lobby. Australia is pretty safe, I'd be surprised if such a system stopped any crime and only inconveniences people. I much prefer to just get in the lift and hit the button, it is annoying to have to swipe (often two or three times) and then pick your room (but obviously a pretty minor issue in the big scheme of things).
