Not much of a suite mind you, but a separate sitting area and bedroom. Nice sized room in the corner of the hotel with a view of Spencer St. Two newspapers delivered in the morning as requested. Downside the queue to check out was a pain and I was keen to get to the MCG (for little reason as it would turn out..bloody West Coast!). However it wasn't too long, but longer than you would want it to be, y'know?

Status: PC Platinum, no Ambassador. I had (have) Priority Privilege but didn't use it / present it for this stay (long story)
Hotel: Crowne Plaza Melbourne
Booked: Standard Room
Rate: PC Points Redemption (full 25k - just as well, since this CP will in future be a 35k property)

Received: Upgraded Room (don't know the descriptor) on the 9th floor (higher floor). The floor was designated as a "Quiet Zone".

At check-in, I was offered a choice of 1 of 3 "gifts":
  • Refreshment pack consisting of a bottle of water and one of (i) Kit Kat (not the AFF member of the same handle ;)), (ii) Muesli bar, or (iii) Nuts.
  • Complimentary drink at the hotel bar
  • 1,000 PC points (awarded as 2 x 500 point vouchers which require manual deposit online)

I initially selected the refreshment pack, but after stark checked in and chose the points, we started walking away then I did a double take to try and change my amenity. After all, what is a refreshment pack compared to 1,000 free points (especially since it'll offset what I spent for the night)?

Went back to the reception and offered back the refreshment pack in exchange for points instead. Catherine, who checked us in at reception, just said to me to keep the refreshment pack and gave me the 2 500 point vouchers. Score! :)

When I checked out the next day I put in a good word for her at the front desk.

Holiday Inn Brisbane 20th-27th January 2012.
No PC Status= Entry level 'Club" member but received complimentary wine in room along with personally signed letter of welcome
from general manager and duty managers, also received a complimentary buffet breakfast and newspaper every morning.
Considering I had no status whatsoever I think I was treated very well.
Cheers

Re: crown plaza Canberra

I didn't even stay at many IC hotels, most of my stays are at HI or CP. I think the $$$ spend is used as a consideration, I probably did over 100+ nights last calendar year, with only 20 or so IC nights.

I did 12 ICs last year but 140 odd nights, this year its apparently 30 nights at an IC, which I will make for a change!

Re: crown plaza Canberra

Are you booking your HI or CP stays at a particular rate? Interesting that even in a global downturn, that the nights required to make RA increases.

The experience that I have had for both my wife and I at the IC Fiji as a RA is something I will always cherish. Easily the best hotel experience I have ever had.

Re: crown plaza Canberra

Hotel:- Holiday Inn On Flinders Lane,575 Flinders Lane ,Melbourne.
Date:- 2/3/12-6/3/12
Status:-Gold
Booked:-King Superior Received:King Superior
Received no status recognition on check in,no breakfast menus or pens in room and carpet needs a good clean, after filling out a guest comment card about
check in I returned to the room later that evening and found wine and chocolates and welcome card so that "cleaned the slate" so to speak, however there were
no newspapers waiting for me on Saturday morning so that was disappointing however this was rectified while I was having breakfast in the restaurant.
Appears this hotel is a little bit "reactive" rather than proactive as regards guests needs however at least they fix problems when notified about them so they
get brownie points for that.
Overall the property gets 7/10 from me.
Cheers

Re: crown plaza Canberra

I generally never get a room upgrade as such as Holiday Inn's, but I do get a room with a view on most occasions. Not sure what view you'd get from Flinders Lane though...
