IHG Hotels that recognise status

I hope this doesn't sound too silly a question ...

But if one is a PC Plat. and has a confirmed and paid for room at say, the CP Surfers ... and you can't be there, and you 'give' the room to a family member ( and have them listed on the booking ). When the family member checks in, will the CP staff still consider an upgrade? ( or anything else, like drink vouchers )
Any examples of the 'good, the bad, and the ugly' ...

Make sure the person who is checking in is on the booking as an additional guest and it will be like you are there

Yes, I added my son. I hope all goes well for him. He's taking his girlfriend for her 18th. birthday.
i think he won't want me to call him ... might be 'busy' !!

CP Surfers Paradise ...

Extras: Box of chocolates in room. Free car-parking. 2:00pm check out.

I didn't actually stay, so will be interesting to see what is offered in next few days, when I will be there personally.

no idea how many stars. But its a convenient location and a King Suit is always nice no matter how many stars! I normally aim to stay at Hilton South Warf when in Melbourne, but it was very expensive this week (over $300/night), so had to look elsewhere. HI is also walking distance to where I need to be working, so was a great option for me ... and helps ensure I meet my 7 nights for 10,000 PC points for the quarter,

CP Surfers Paradise
PC Plat.
Booked Standard Twin Room ( on 30% off PC Members' Rate - includes full breakfast for two )
Received Ocean View Twin Room on 19th floor - not a 'corner', but had quite a nice balcony with table / chairs.
Free undercover car parking ( I think everyone is getting free car parking - is the rollar-door stuck on OPEN? looks that way )
No 'letter' or anything in the room.

When checked with Desk, offered two 'free drink' vouchers in the 'pokie tavern' round the back of hotel. ( beer / wine / soft drink only )
No comp. internet. No bottled water. No wine. Late check out not offered - but I didn't ask for it, as didn't really need it.

Great view from room though ...

Dinner in the 'revolving restaurant' is a feature of the CP Surfers.
we didn't open the 'nice looking' bottle of water on the table. Thought I'd take it with us ... $5. added to bill !!! ( but what if you opened it - then tried to take it out? Told, that no 'opened' containers are allowed to leave the restaurant. Can't win !! )

Crowne Plaza Perth
PC Platinum
Room booked - Premium River View King
Received - Premium River View King - Top Floor
Rate $303 per night  30% discount rate advertised last week.

2 complimentary Crown Lagers
2 complimentary bottles of mineral water
Letter from Operations manager

What this CP lacks in bar/restaurant facilities it makes up for in views! I have always been quite partial to this hotel even when it was the Park Royal.

I got the same things as you did the last time I was at the CP Perth. Definitely a nice view out across the Esplanade and the park across the road, leading to the Swan. (It was a great vantage point when they had a small aviation show on said park when I was in PER at that time).

Holiday Inn Singapore - City Centre Orchard

PC Platinum
Booked - King Bed Premier Nonsmoking (on points, lowest category)
Received - King Bed Premier Nonsmoking

Was welcomed as a Platinum member, but front desk staff apologised, no upgrade due the hotel being to fully booked. Received high floor, park view room instead, plus welcome drink voucher, free wifi and free breakfast. Couldn't complain.

Room was very nice and new furnishings, best HI room I stayed in so far (and better than all CPs I stayed in as well). Rooftop pool is good for a city hotel. Only downside was courtesy of staff, most were not very friendly and attentive at all.

Intercontential San Francisco - Downtown.
AMB Platinum
Booked Superior room
Upgraded to Club Floor Corner Suite.
Welcome letter. Fruit Bowl, Mixed Nuts, Petit fours, Hand Painted Murial!

There was some delay when I checked in about 8pm. Just having some friend banter with the checkin staff.
Didn't use the ambassador check in line as other staff were free.

While I like to think I have a great profile in the IHG CRM, I think I got someone's room who didn't turn up.

I grabbed some photos below! I don't think this will be repeated!
The Murial was handpainted on plate out of icing.

Booked a Premium Ocean view room
Received a Premium Ocean view room

No welcome on arrival or mention of Platinum status. When queried told that Yes Platinum noted on booking. No welcome letter, no complimentary late checkout, no nothing.

Considering I have stayed here 4 times this year and normally receive benefits such as late checkout this place is going downhill especially with rooms looking abit dated.

May venture back to CP Newcastle where they know how to look after their PC guests.

Booked a city side room on Points
Received a harbour side room on top level.

Personal welcome on arrival from Manager on Duty, and Welcome letter. Requested a top level room, and received just that with upgrade to harbour view room.

Checking fast and efficient no more than 2 minutes!

Valets fast and helpful as always. Used PP card for breakfast the next morning saving 2 for 1, child ate for free. Breakfast spread great and staff friendly.

Checkout fast, and asked if stay was enjoyable and what they could improve on.

This hotel never disappoints in the many times I've stayed.

Crowne Plaza Changi Airport

One night stay in the middle of a trip BLR-BNE.

Great stay - arrived about 7am (*well* before check in time) and got an offer to put me in a temporary room for a few hours while they got my runway view suite ready (woohoo!). Somone arrived mid-afternoon with some complimentary mini-desserts, which were excellent. Transferred over to suite about 4pm - first time staying in a suite here, and they are very, very nice!

On a separate note, love this hotel! Can often be a bit more expensive than it deserves, but if the rate is OK, it's just a fantastic place to stay and break up a long journey...

Just stayed 3 nights at CP San Jose. Possibly the friendliest staff I've ever had at a hotel, had a genuine interest in conversation, which I could tell because they actually remembered the conversation from the day before.

Only perk I think I got was free breakfast, don't think my room was upgraded. Booked on the AAA/CAA rate.

Holiday inn old sydney
PC Platinum
Booked Queen Standard
Received King Superior (not much difference apparently, bigger TV)

Rocked up at about 11am, no rooms on a higher floor as requested but was fine with one on the 2nd floor. Older hotel overall, wouldn't hurry back but it is very well located relative to Circular Quay.

Staff good, recognised status and thanked profusely a number of times for choosing to stay with them.

Holiday Inn Darling Harbour
PC Platinum
Booked - Superior room on points
Received - Top floor corner king suite

Extremely friendly welcome as a Platinum Member, already had me checked in and I was a late 9.30pm arrival. All staff very firendly throughout the 2 day stay.

Suite was well furnished and extremely clean, loved the complimentary water bottles by the bed each night.

Breakfast basic but well staffed and replenished and not the usual mad place like CP Terrigal that im used too!

A great spot in Sydney directly opposite the Entertainment Centre, only gripe is valet car parking was not available and had to park the car at Entertainmnet Centre car park which was a 5 minute hike back and very full on a Friday night, thankfully we took the work car not our own!!

A very pleasurable hotel.
