Cheers.

CP Norwest

I got a one level upgrade (my status is Plat Amb).

I'd booked a 1 King room, received a 1 King with Balcony. Used a PP 25% off flexible certificate (so it was about $120 for the night).

Offered late check out and newspaper delivery at check in, so they had that down pat.

Last time I stayed here I was also offered a complimentary drink from room service (I think I was given a list of several options), but that didn't happen this time (I have a feeling it was fairly new last time I stayed so it could have been something to get people to return, or perhaps since was a public holiday when I stayed this time the manager who takes care of such things was on leave).

I quite like this hotel (reasonably spacious rooms, easy parking and access when I am driving through Sydney) and finally got to use its pool (and checked out its mini gym facility which looked fine for cardio) which I had often eyed in the past and which I suspect will soon be too cold to use.

nigelinoz, you need to be introduced to Amanda Morrison, the Head Concierge. She always gets things done swiftly.

Hotel:- Holiday Inn On Flinders Lane,575 Flinders Lane ,Melbourne.
Date:- 2/3/12-6/3/12
Status:-Gold
Booked:-King Superior Received:King Superior
Received no status recognition on check in,no breakfast menus or pens in room and carpet needs a good clean, after filling out a guest comment card about
check in I returned to the room later that evening and found wine and chocolates and welcome card so that "cleaned the slate" so to speak, however there were
no newspapers waiting for me on Saturday morning so that was disappointing however this was rectified while I was having breakfast in the restaurant.
Appears this hotel is a little bit "reactive" rather than proactive as regards guests needs however at least they fix problems when notified about them so they
get brownie points for that.
Overall the property gets 7/10 from me.
Cheers

Re: crown plaza Canberra

Hi Lindsay,
I'm back at the Holiday Inn on Flinders from 20/4 to 23/4 so hopefully things will be better this time.

Re: crown plaza Canberra

Status: PC Platinum (no Ambassador)
Hotel: Holiday Inn Bratislava
Booked: King Bed Non-Smoking
Rate: PC Points Redemption - 10k per night (full points)
Received: Top floor location, renovated corner room. It has a king bed in it and two arm chairs. Not sure if its better than the normal King room.

There are two bottles of water on the coffee table, but no idea if they are complimentary or not. Will ask later.

Interesting set up - the King bed is two single bed bases pushed together, with a King bed sized mattress laid on top of the two bases (make sense?)

Internet is complimentary in all rooms on this property, though it is only available through wired internet (no wifi in rooms).

A lot of hotels do that for a king bed, Hiltons included. That's a bargain on points!

Bargain indeed! And the decor is quite respectable for the price in points.

Only disadvantage is that it's quite far from the Old Town (needs at least a bus or two to get there, or a fixed price taxi of EUR 10 one-way *ummm... no*). Not many food options in walking distance, though there is a LIDL not far away (about 10 minutes walk).

Ah. Not to worry. You could have always braved a hostel ........ naw, why would you want to do that

Re: crown plaza Canberra

Status: PC Platinum (only)
Hotel: Intercontinential Tahiti (Papeete)
Booked: King Standard
Rate: PC Points Redemption - 30k per night
Received: Upgraded room with amazing lagoon/ocean views, *huge* fruit platter, bottle of nice french red and welcome letter from GM. Still in shock!:)

Older hotel, but close to the airport with good food - and topless male staff everywhere!

Re: crown plaza Canberra

Crowne plaza London the city (blackfriars)
Platinum
used points, booked twin deluxe room - needed 2 beds so no upgrade possible.
receptionist on check in was surly and borderline rude
Hotel though was fantastic. Spotless, right near a tube station and half a block from the Thames.
Concierge very polite.
2 bottles of water replenished daily
for being platinum, free wifi for 2 devices!!!

would definitely recommend it. We paid the old rate of 25k pts....what a bargain. Even at 35k, for London and with the free wifi i would stay again.

Re: crown plaza Canberra

Crowne Plaza Norwest (Sydney)
Platinum
$240 for a Queen room
received a Queen room
No recognisation of Priority Club Status
No letter from manager, no upgrade, no newspaper, no platinum greeting, no water.

Re: crown plaza Canberra

I stay at the Norwest regularly, and they do generally give you an upgrade. I think I was given one recently to a room with a balcony, not really much of an upgrade, but at least it was something.

It's a pretty ordinary area without a car though, I wanted to cross the road to get to the Coffee Club, tried to do it without using the pedestrian crossing and no jokes it took about 15 minutes!

Re: crown plaza Canberra

Satyed at HI Brisbane last Friday 13th for the League.
Booked Queen room, got a King corner room, 13th floor, welcome note, comp beer and small bag of crisps.
All in all a good nights stay after the footy.
The refurb was nice, stayed before the refurb a few years back and rooms were very tired.
Shame it's leaving the IHG chain.

Re: crown plaza Canberra

@Must...Fly! Used the CP London a while ago also on reward points for a few nights - similarly thought it was a great venue (& value) although we had to use Temple Station due to Blackfriars being closed for renovations. Nice quiet location. We also had a nicer receptionist!

Re: crown plaza Canberra

Stuck there all this week. Thanks to a company Head Office out this way, learnt early on to politely insist that preferences in my profile (PC Plat) be respected by hotel / duty manager.

Have consistently found CP Norwest... when operating at its shining best with all stars in perfect alignmment... to be mediocre. Also consistent is air-con that only works in some rooms, staff cannot predict which rooms, so it's room roulette that may or may not involve repacking every stay. Consistently consistent is room service that arrives with one or more items incorrect per order. Found this week they have changed the room service menu (for the worse if one is vego) & culled it right back; thus I am frequenting the fake lake restaurants down the road more so this trip.

Re: crown plaza Canberra

Geez CP Norwest has really gone downhill since I last stayed there!

Re: crown plaza Canberra

Just got back from Gold Coast. Didn't stay at CP Surfers, but did have dinner at revolving restaurant on 26th. floor ...

We had a party of eight, and they accepted my PP card plus a Member-For-A-Day cert. a saving of $130.

Great view, and the food was pretty good too. Drinks a little pricey ( but you'd expect that )

Will be staying for two nights in early August. Can't wait !!

Crowne Plaza Canberra - Booked: King Bed Superior (cheapest flexible rate available) - Received: King Bed Premium - Comment: although a 2-category upgrade I cannot really see any additional perks to what I would have expected in a Superior Room, except for the park view maybe. Also no letter, no water. Newspaper was offered without asking though. (Sorry it doesn't allow me to include paragraphs for whatever reason.)
