IHG Hotels that recognise status

IC Sydney
RA
Booked City View King
Received Club City View King, fruit plate, Margaret River Wine and Water.

Club offering improved with the tasting plate ditched in favor of buffet, not quite the spread on offer at the hilton but good for a meal, and drinks were very free flowing, including a nice house sparkling from their vineyard.

Only other thing to note was the White Spirits and Irish Whiskey in the mini bar had been consumed then water substituted, no big deal for me as a RA who gets reasonable mini bar fro free, and my mini bar was not replenished on the second day although they had recorded my consumption. I reported it to the Club manager who said they often can track it back to a previous guest through data matching. Only other issue was the inhouse TV system was down for two hours on Saturday through a fault.

IC Sydney.
Ambassador (Platinum)
Booked Club City View King using Priority Privilage BOGO.
Received Club East Harbour View King, fruit plate, Hunter Valley red wine and water.

Nice that Ambassador benefits are now fully honoured on Priority Privilage rates.

Since taking up Priority Club platinum thanks to Virgin Australia platinum (thanks to the status match) I've been trying to direct my accommodation towards IHG properties and of course angling for those promised upgrades from a base of the cheapest room I can get booking from the Priority Club website.

Holiday Inn Potts Point - no special benefits that I recall
InterContinental Sydney - no special benefits that I recall
Crowne Plaza Alice Springs - warmly welcomed as a platinum but no other benefits
Holiday inn Townsville - was told I'd been upgraded, presumably from standard to superior
Holiday Inn Chiang Mai - was upgraded from a superior to a suite, with welcome fruit platter, chocolates and water bottles aplenty - very very happy :D

Well, it seems that PC hotels in Asia have more recognition than in Oz or NZ.

The best I have received was free internet (once), a few drink vouchers and of course, the extra points earn due to status.

PC has a define set of benefits in the uk for the various statuses. Was a poster in hi discussing them.

Free internet for plat is nice.

Holiday Inn Express Soho HK - Upgraded to a very high floor (harbour view) and offered late checkout option during check in
Crowne Plaza Kuala Lumpur - Upgraded to Junior Suite only. NOTE: Hotel will cease operation in 1st of Jan 2013 as the building is due for demolition soon after that

Intercontinental Sanctuary Cove
platinum member
Booked Homestead Suite for 6 nights using PP newsletter special (2 for 1 no cert required)
Received Homestead Suite, told their best suite.

Extremely warm welcome and thanked as a Platinum member.
handwritten card and boxed cookies in room.
Rollaways provided free of charge for children.
Night time turndown service including chocolates on pillows.

Club access included, great breakfast, morning tea and afternoon tea. Canapés and open bar but no under 18's allowed thus we won't get a chance to go.

Service level exceptional. This will be our new favourite!

Holiday Inn Express Cape Town - no special benefits that I recall (apart from possibly points earn which I'm not good at keeping track of)

Holiday Inn Resort Phi Phi Island - warmly welcomed verbally and in a letter as a platinum member. Got flowers and a 'welcome spelt out in a flowers and leaves on the bed too but don't know if others got that. Only got a complimentary newspaper once.

Holiday Inn Bangkok Silom - Made to fill in the registration form (a pet hate, all details for which are in my profile already) but after being identified as PC platinum was walked to the 23rd floor for 'executive check in' which worked very well. Got a late checkout and use of the Executive Club Lounge but no upgrade this time around.

Had an interesting take on the upgrade thing at the CP Abu Dhabi Yas Island last week. Only one class of room available when I rang from the airport and walked in shortly after. They apologised for not having an upgrade available, and downgraded my rate instead. Nice one!:)

I can't recall when I last didn't get either or both of a welcome gift or an upgrade.

Cheers skip

Checked into Wellington IC yesterday. ( RA - referred )

After a few issues on our flight over, and due to a 'sleepless' night previously at home, I was eager to just get into our room ...

So, when the 'duty manager' ( I think ) made an offer to take two AMB Weekend vouchers + a PP BOGO in exchange for three nights ... I thought that was a good offer ? Which meant, that for a four night stay, I'm now going to pay just the one night rate. The 'after-thought' was, I didn't clarify, just what that "one night rate" is now going to cost me ...

Anyhow, up to the 'Club Intercontinental' room ... ( a very standard and small 'city-view' room )

'Welcome Gift' waiting = two glass trays with a total of nine ( 9 ) fine cholocate pieces; a 600 ml. ( glass ) bottle of local NZ sparkling mineral water; a black-boxed 'presentation-style' IC keyring, and a 'Welcome Note' from the GM, recognising RA status, to include "welcome back ... " ( no, I haven't stayed here previously ). Complimentary fruit bowl ( a dozen or more pieces ) is available just outside the Club Lounge - but nothing actually in the room.

Mini-bar ...

Strikingly - NO SPIRITS at all !! Only a few half bottles of local wines ( to include a half bottle of 'local' sparkling, and two types of beer, and the usual fruit juice and soft drinks.

Club Lounge ...

90 minute 'Twilight Drinks' session, commencing with a served 'Chef's Tasting Plate', with only three bite-sized canapes of 'fish' dishes.
No hot food at the buffet table - only an 'average' cheeze plate and a few 'nut' selections, and a bowl of spicy corn chips and dips.

So, thus far, a little less than what I've experienced at Sydney IC ( I must have been spoiled ?? )

It's not the way IC Wellington used to do it and it's a bit of a mistake IMO. IC Sydney told me they dropped the tasting plate after lots of complaints. Imagine, on the night, if you didn't like fish for example? But as you'll see, the tasting plate changes each night. Lounge staff are great though!

Had another excellent stay at the CP Changi airport a few weeks ago - three nights, checked in 8 hours early or something around there, upgraded to (very nice) suite. Bowl of fruit and bottles of water on arrival. Although I will say the fruit was not as nice as the miniature dessert plate they've delivered on other occasions!

Really like that hotel...

Booked Club King City view
Received Club Harbour View Suite

I also booked a Club City view room for the "kids" and it was upgraded to an Eastern Harbour view which was a pleasant surprise.

After 2 phone calls I finally received my fruit plate and gift (Bimbadgen red). No welcome note though.

The suite was fantastic for our Christmas stay as we had a few guests for drinks and unwrapping of presents on the 25th. (No, we didn't drink the mini bar dry - we took lots of extra bottles of wine and cider to share)

Grizzel and her current team in the Club Lounge are fantastic - we were made to feel very special and the service was exceptional.
Thanks for a memorable Christmas, IC Sydney.

Checked out of Wellington IC today ...

Only paid for one night out of four - due to sacrificing two AMB BOGOs + one PP BOGO. While some may ask, why do that, my vouchers were going to expire before my next anticipated stay.

So, for me on this occasion, each voucher was worth $NZ229.

With RA benefits, a four night stay in a Club Room ( + comp. mini-bar drinks & in-house movie ) together with two in-house dinners, four main restaurant breakfasts, and a three-hour tour, cost me just $NZ600. ( about $AU510. at today's rate )

I had no issue with the check out staff member. RA status was acknowledged without prompting, and all sundry costs were removed from my bill.

I was very pleased with this stay - the main reason I persued PP / AMB / RA memberships.
