IHG Hotels that recognise status

So I should be content with the 2 vouchers for drinks at the bar for the HI HKG, whilst on a recent reward stay.
The reception did emphasise that this was an elite offering.

I don't think elite gifts are to be expected in IHG. We receive them (as documented here), but they aren't gazetted. And, as you can see in one of my cases, I didn't get anything additional at all. (One might argue this is due to the rate being a reward night, but that too is up for debate).

Stays in China are a little different, extra benefits are mandated last year:

Property: Crowne Plaza Canberra
Status: Platinum
Booked: King Superior
Received: King Deluxe (park view)
Other: Voucher for one free drink + canapés
Status was recognised at check in, no other benefits were offered

Went to get canapes and was told by barman that these are only available until 7.00pm, but this isn't documented and was not told when I received the voucher. The gym is reasonably good, but not the best CP.

Stayed at Holiday Inn Atrium for Singapore GP. Used points and upgraded to club room for $55++ per night.

First stay here and was impressed. Good staff, rooms were okay and they look after platinum's. Late checkout no problem till 4pm, 25% off F&B charges, got a handy portable charger as a gift, plenty of water. On race day free drinks, snacks and fruit available to take to the track.

Location is good, free shuttle to Orchard Rd every hour, water taxi $3 one way all the way to Marina Bay Sands and Robertson quay with pubs and restaurants a 5 minute walk. Clark Quay was a 15 minute walk.

Markmat,

Did you get an extra drink, in lieu of the 'canapes'.

This was my experience recently ...

Sounds like a good stay option in SIN.
I've stayed at the HI Orchard City Centre a few times & have been happy. Great location, not so large rooms, but the pool is a nice reprieve in the heat.

Property: HI Melbourne
Status: Platinum
Booked: City Double on PP special $125
Received: Top floor City Double (Upgrade to king room was showing until night before, then retracted)
Other: Status was recognised at check in, got to room and rang to ask if anything but a double bed was available as it was a very small room (tripped over suitcase on floor as there was no where else to put it a number of times), told no upgrades available due footy week.

While I was disappointed with the lack of an upgrade and the small room, it turned out to be the best stay of three we did last week, as Markis10jr loved watching the trams, loved his kids activity pack on checkin and extra attention at breakfast, and despite the double bed we both slept in the next morning. A good lesson in family benefits trumping status benefits!

Property Crowne Plaza Terrigal
Status Platinum
booked Pine Suite
recieved Pine Suite
just recognition at check in. No extras.
fairly disappointing experience.

Property Crowne Plaza San Diego Mission Valley
Status Platinum
booked StandardRoom
received Standard Room
just recognition at check in. Allowed late check out till 2pm.
bottle of water and cookies.
no room upgrade.

this hotel overall is a dive. I believe is not owned and managed by IHG but privately managed. Rooms are smelly and the whole place reeks of disgusting smell.
wont be staying there again.

IHG should consider de recognising them as it is spoiling the Crowne Plaza brand..

Crowne Plaza Terrigal
Booked 20%flexible PP rate
Booked 2 queens with balcony
Received 2 queens premium ocean view

Welcomed as Platinum guest and told point balance at checkin. No other benefits.

I requested the haven side of hotel due to music from Florida Bar pumping and shaking the place down normally until midnight from Thursday to Sunday nights....... First night told hotel apparently nearly fully booked so sorry and put straight above the Florida Bar!! They have promised I can change tonight to haven side as I still have 6 more nights here!! (Either that or I will be checking out early)

Staff attentive and friendly.

Now awake at 6am as knock on neighbors door with "room service" shouted out...... Not what I like on a Sunday morning..... At least the kids stated asleep!!

Rooms nicely furnished, pool abit small for the number if people using it. Hotel areas quite dated, and can't believe I keep paying $18 for self parking when the public car park is free across the road!!!

Top location and I guess that's why I keep returning, but certainly highly priced for the standard.

told point balance at checkin.

What's with this being told points balance at checkin. At sanctuary Cove IC, I was actually given a preprinted letter in a sealed envelope which I assumed was a welcome letter explaining the privilege/club benefits, but no.....all it said was my points balance! I already knew that. What I didn't know was all about the hotel which would have been more appropriate IME (especially the club requirements like the fact they served between 5pm-7pm for canapes and drinks rather than the more usual 6pm-8pm).

I used to think the same about given the welcome letters.....all it ever told me was my points balance, which I always know!!!

Newcastle CP, two night weekend stay mid-September.
Verbal recognition of status on check-in, upgrade to a harbour-side room and free wi-fi for up to four devices for the duration of the stay (after asking for it as I had been alerted to this offer via IHG.com email correspondence). :)
No letter, no chocolates, no water, no wine. :-|
My first overnight stay at the CP Newc and was pleasantly surprised at all the new development alongside the harbour - nice vibe, good range of restaurants and lovely to walk along.

Crowne Plaza Melbourne
Booked: Standard Room
Received : River View Room
Extras: Welcomed as Platinum Guest. Offered Free internet, Newspaper and late check out. Didn't need the late check out so politely declined by me.
In the room usual Bottle of Red wine waiting for me.

This is one IHG property which is fairly consistent with PC recognition. That is why I keep staying there. J

Absolutely.. It is a two way street..
Couldn't agree more and always find it somewhat perplexing that there are such differing levels of loyalty recognition across the various hotels in the PC (IHG) program; one of their advertised benefits is consistency across the brands/locations. I've experienced similarly consistent 'rewards' when using the same property in certain cities and find it mildly () irritating (it is a first-world problem after all!) when inconsistencies occur.

Anything above the base requirements is a bonus. Asking for consistency is more or less arguing for no hotel to ever go above and beyond....

Holiday Inn Perth City
Booked: Standard Room
Received : Queen Exec Room
Extras: Welcomed as Platinum Guest. Offered Free internet, Newspaper and late check out. Didn't need the late check out so politely declined by me.
In the room Bottle of Red wine waiting for me plus complimentary goodies being additional small bottle of wine, nuts, water, chocolates, and Red Rock Deli chips.

Great status perks, could become a new favourite!

Property: Holiday Inn Potts Point
Status: Platinum
Booked: Queen Non-Smoking
Received: King Harbour View
Other: A fairly standard upgrade at this property with no other benefits offered. I was initially given a "harbour view" room that offered more of a view of the living room of someone in the apartment building opposite than the harbour. After a call to the Duty Manager I was moved to the top floor to a room with a great view of the city and harbour. This property is far from my first choice when staying in Sydney but I need a few nights to retain WP for another year and this stay will trigger about 30k of bonus points so the "sacrifice" is probably worth it.
