IHG Hotels that recognise status

Property: Holiday Inn, Port Moresby
Status: Platinum
Booked: Standard Room
Received: Larger room on 7th floor

Not a great property but after all this is PNG! Renovations and building of H I Express adjacent to property still going on after some years.....

Welcome at reception, "Thank you for your loyalty", etc., plus invited to drinks & snacks with the management and staff. Apparently they have this every second Wednesday from around 5-30 to 6-30pm.

Unfortunately my plane was late and I didn't get to the hotel until 8pm but the guy at reception still made a point of ceremoniously handing me my invite. When I told him "thanks but it is already finished" he said "yes I know".

This is the second stay in a row that I have missed out on drinks by arriving after drinks have finished (see post 811):
Bugger again!

  Welcome to POM! I've been here for 5 weeks now and I'm having an absolute ball! I just love the dis-functionality of this place........if you don't have a scrappy piece of paper authorising something, it will NOT happen. The fact that it had already happened is superfluous to the thought behind the offer!

Property: IC Bali
Status: Platinum
Dates: 04 Jan -06 Jan
Booked: Singaraja Deluxe
Received: Singaraja Duplex Suite

Once again a lovely stay at the IC Bali.
One of my favourite resort IC.
Very busy property with both Indonesia, Australian & Euro holiday makers in abundance.
Upon arrival was welcomed by the Duty Manger & was thanked for being a returning guest.
Was personally escorted to the Singaraja suite & was granted Club access, subject to capacity.
The Singaraja Duplex suites are lovely with a pleasant outlook over the resorts pools & beach.
Returned from a swim to find a large platter of fresh fruits & boxed gift wrapped chocolates & cashews.
The Club lounge & facilities are absolutely gorgeous at this property, with an exceptional level of attentive service with afternoon high tea & evening coughtails.
Adore the private club pool & the cabanas are a fantastic way to enjoy the Jimbaran balmy days.

Property: IC Phnom Penh
Status: Platinum
Dates: 06 - 08 Jan 2014
Booked: King Bed Junior Suite
Received: King Bed Junior Suite on Club Floor

Nice hotel, slightly off centre of town though with all the typical IC city hotel trimmings.
Very efficient reception, was escorted to the Club Lounge on 14th floor for welcome drinks.
Room contained a fruit platter, welcome note & a gorgeous silver elephant momento as a gift.
Very spacious suite room with a fantastic view over PP.
Excellent pool facilities & an superb concierge to arrange my Vietnam visa.
Not the most extensive offerings for the coughtail hour, though the view & friendly service from lounge managers added to the pleasant ambience.
Was offered breakfast in the lounge or restaurant which the latter was brilliant with a very very extensive range of offerings with no less than 20 staff in attendance during the quiet breakfast time.
Manager called me several times to make sure everything was comfortable with my stay & lots of help from Concierge was well appreciated.

Thats interesting that HI upgraded you and CP didn't. From my experiences it has been the other way round!
I have stayed at the CP at Miami Int., LAX and in Perth and all have given me upgrades and excellent service.
Whereas HI, I have not received a single upgrade staying in LAX, Chicago, Melb. Just get a worthless "thanks for being platinum" at check-in.

Property: InterContinental Singapore

Status: Platinum Ambassador

Dates: 08-09 Feb 2014

Booked: Deluxe King

Received: King Executive Suite (room only, no club benefits)

1st stay at the IC Singapore, and 1st stay at any IC since upgrading my account on spare points to Ambassador.

It's a very nice room, and was very nice of them, however a 5-level upgrade is probably going to play havoc with my future expectations at any IC! :)

The IC in SIN is quite a nice property.
There is a growing trend (particularly in Asia) to upgrade the room to club floor without lounge access.
This is an issue I really get peeved off about.. though in many cases I have taken the upsell 'option" of lounge access for reasonable rates.
Many of the IC managers have mentioned that there are many loyal guests that are not happy with these enhancements, inclusive of the platinum & royal ambassadors.

They did in fact offer the Club access for an additional SGD60++ (or a pre-paid breakfast at SGD25++), but as I'm out tonight, and unsure of desire for breakfast in the morning, I politely declined.

I this recent? On my last visit to IC SIN ( a few months back ), on check-in I was asked to go to the club floor to complete the formalities. Can't remember the exact rate I booked, but it included breakfast, but not club.

Yes quite recent.
Past few ICs I have stayed at, the option appeared  - the staff appeared to be very regretful & apologetic .... though.... 'as a new policy"... standard recited spiel..

They have been doing this for many years. It's certainly not recent. Even RA's didn't get club access at SIN IC.

Hmm, I did. And because I booked a breakfast inclusive rate I could have breakfast either in the club or the olive tree. And that was on the Amb Weekend stay....

They gave you access to the club for evening coughtails? That's new. The breakfast doesn't really count - the Olive Tree often gets so crowded they'd be happy to move some guests to the club I'd imagine. :)

Yes, had a Singapore Sling or two ;). I am happy to concede that it may have just been a once off. These things happen from time to time.....

Nice too hear!
Rather inconsistent standards with IC stays though. Franchise arrangements & differing management techniques also provide lesser uniformity.

I like to say "You can't eat a 'view'/'bigger room' ".

Personally, I prefer club lounge access irrespective of the room - that's why HHonors has been my caper for nearly the last decade.

(I only have about 30 or so room nights a year, so can't waste them on programs with 'space availability' type benefits.)

IC Dalian - Totally ignored my Platinum Status. Lots of blank looks when I raised it. A couple of withered apples delivered to my room later.

CP Perth - platinum greeting at check in, but swiftly collected my BOGO cert. no upgrade but I had been checking the website a few days out and it was a full house.

Only 1 nights parking charge on the bill. Concierge were excellent on this trip, especially a young chap called Sebastian.

Used a PP breakfast cert and have to say it was a good feed, although unsure if it was worth $70 for two.

On a triip for our wedding anniversary, have booked 4 different hotels, received upgrade from all.

IC HK on a BOGO - upgraded from Deluxe Harbour Room to Superior Suite
HI Macau on points - upgraded from King Superior to Deluxe Room
IC Danang on points - upgraded from King Resort Classic to Premium
IC Singapore on points - upgraded from Deluxe Room to King Shophouse Club Room (paying $100++ SGD a night for club access)

IC Danang probably the best hotel I've stayed at in the chain so far. About to eat at La Maison 1888 tonight, aiming for a main and 2 desserts :)

HI Perth City Centre

No upgrade, but received a high floor room that is nice and quiet, just what we requested.

Two x Comp bottles of wine, nuts, chips, water and an Invite to drinks with management tomorrow night in the room.

The staff here have been awesome thus far.

Has anybody been to a management drinks and tapas hour? what's the story? I've got the time free and am thinking about heading down
